  1. been there done that, hair algae would take about 25-50 SH to keep even with. I had 2 the size of baseballs and they didn't even put a dent in it eating 24-6... I have about 125 blue legs, sea cucumbers, 40 scarlets, emeralds, and god knows what else, they cant even put a dent in it. Its out of control. Im giung to have to retire the LR till it cures "cooks" I might be getting some of your LR but I will have to much after the cooking is done. Its always something. As asked Any other suggestions? I have tangs that eat it and LM blenny, and a few other things but they just cant keep up. I use a toothbrush and get all the visible Hair out but it just regrows, almost can watch it grow right before my eyes, sad really. I get pissed then.... just give up.
  2. Explain your thoughts on adding sugar? and why would you want to feed something you want to starve? Im thinking out load and Im waiting for the answer... he he.....
  3. OK I have had this new tank up and running since March, since then the Hair algae is just outrageous. I have kept my mag, cal, sal, nit, am, alk all balanced and in good shape but phosphates where out of whack, so I have been using Phosban to control them for about a week, the PHo4 is undetectable on tests as of when I added the phasban but that doesnt mean the hair algae isnt absorbing some before the phosban is in the refugium, and I have noticed even know there is no PH04 there is hair algae growth. I have now replaced everything in the tank but the liverock. The liverock was cured for about a month in a tank prior to going "Live" but I still think the LR is leaching PH04. I am under the belief that Im going to need to "Cure" the rock long term. Anyone been in this situation? How long should it take to kill off the hair algae with phosban? and if I can't how in the hell am I going to scrape many many living things off all my rock so it can be cured? I can cut stuff off but we are talking some serious recordia, shrooms, zoos here.... Im really not wanting to do this if I don't have to. My patience is running very thing, so is my wallet. This is the most fustraiting thing I have had to deal with so far.... help me out.
  4. I would like to come by and see all this stuff for sale, however Im afraid of what I would come home with.... lol... seriously...
  5. So whats it gunna take to get Mr.S to open the doors and do this again? LOL... I had a good time and always a pleasure to meet more people in the hobby, thanks to those who showed and look forward to meeting everyone again soon. If this keeps up I may need a calcium reactor sooner than I thought.
  6. Thanks guys and girls again for inviting me and mr.s and ryan for helping out with everything. Awesome peaces and interesting frag techniques... you know who Im talkin about... lol
  7. Seem to work fine in IE and firefox
  8. your more than welcome to use my clippers, as far as glue some superglue "GEL" is fine, wet rubble is fine for gel. I have aquapoxy but its better for rockwork and such.
  9. If your splitting to frag tank sounds fine, I assume this is not going through refugium if you have one, and you have adequate baffles for limiting bubbles. Just stating what I don't see... If you do have a bubble problem there is ways to remedy that quite easily in most cases. I have 3 baffle sections and there is no bubbles after the second set but I tend to overkill. Single Baffle wall at Overflow entry PVC then standard baffle design to refugium then standard baffle to sump area. aprox 15" wide at 1300 gph and the flow is nice and slow and quiet.
  10. Sounds good, I will run by my LFS and get baggies, I think I got everything else I need. Think I can get away with using electrical dikes for fragging? I would think it would be fine... ya ya I know.....
  11. I run that in my 155 and its fine, for your tank I personally would step up to a Barracuda but I like lots of flow. Keep in mind I run a smaller pump for the sump and run the Sequence Closed loop. Seems to run better that way. As for the 7 feet head pressure that pump will be more than fine.
  12. sorry to hear about that :( It sucks loosing fish. My tank is all screened off for that same reason. Royal grammas and Jawfish........ No need to say anymore. Nyles-
  13. Check switch, if your savvy test it after the switch with a voltmeter and go down the line till you find the current loss. Unlikely to be the bulb but test before your socket to verify power there as well. You'll find the location of the problem easy that way.
  14. I agree with the above if you get a pseudi make sure he goes in the tank last, but still there is a chance he could get little man syndrome, maybe think basslet even the royal gramma, I almost went pseudi and got the gramma instead. Fun to watch swim upside down and all over.
  15. well that makes me feel better, this guy is new, had a mate but one of my larger fish got hungry. Hes for sale at the LFS... LOL
  16. mine is a dud....... I have frogs, hammer, seabae en., green bubble en., and all the others he has nothing to do with them... I think he is trying to host with my tank cleaning magnet..... and no he wasnt caught with cyanide and brain dead... an actual MAC certified fish... LOL, I think he needs to see a fish psychiatrist.
  17. You need to get a calcium tester, preferably Salifert. If these are going to be your first SPS you should be fine depending on what your doing now, I just dose the usuall kalk and I have liquid ca on hand but I never need it due to I don't have enough SPS yet that leech my ca levels below what Kalk makes up. Get a ca tester and keep an eye, if dosing kalk and liquid ca wont keep up then you need ca reactor, unless you got the money, but you will probably overdose.
  18. don't think so...... I would be willing to as well but I think he already stated no Paypal
  19. 1 cat, and just retired freshwater setups. I would like to get a dog but Im afraid the cat would hurt him, tried new cats but this girl dont like competition. Had a dog for a few months and the cat beat him up.
  20. I'm interested. Where are these colonies being purchased from? Do you accept paypal?
  21. If you can't get to it with a toothbrush after soaking on tight to reach places I usually try adding some coarse grain rock from the tank and shake vigourosly (coated freshwater rocks work best in my opinion) I do this all the time to clean weird shaped tubing. if your working around a pump make sure you don't leave any behind.
