jason7504
yeah i was thinking of maybe going to a glass shop or something and having them remove some of the glass top..can i just go into any glass shop and have it done?
Michael7979
Just open it for a period of time everyday.
jason7504
part of the reason i wanna keep a glass top on is because i dont want the glass cover on the sunpod to get all salty and block the light..would that happen even though the sunpod is like 3 or 4in. above the water? dstoneburg
Toss the glass hood. It reduces gas exchange as well as collects water drops which greatly reduces light penetration. Your sunpod will get salt on the glass, but its easy to take off and clean once a month or so.
jason7504
ok thanks ..
jason7504
dstone, i know that you used rice paper on your stands window but can you actually tint the glass? like they do with cars but on my stand window
CA2OR
yeah I was going to say if you clean it monthly or more you shouldn't have too much of a problem doing away with the glass top.
jason7504
yeah i took off the glass top and wipe off the sunpod's glass cover when it gets salt creep on it.. anybody know about the stand tinting?
reef-fisher
Yes you can tint the glass, however, it may be easier to just replace the glass with a tinted panel. My glass shop charged me $12 to cut a piece of obscure class. It was installed in about 2 minutes. There are small metal tabs on the inside of the door that hold it in place(like a picture frame). Bend the tabs back and you can even take the glass you have to the shop so they get the size right.
jason7504
hmm or with rice paper like dstone did? what kind of obscure glass did you get? can you show a pic?
reef-fisher
I dont have a pic now, but here are some options. I went with a 1/2" cross reed. Any glass shop should have these on display. http://www.hollanderglass.com/texas/moderately_obscure_glass.shtml
jason7504
is the stock solana skimmer pump always this noisy? i just started running it now that my cycle is pretty much over..
reef-fisher
yes, the stock skimmer is noisy. One of the biggest reasons I want to replace mine.
jason7504
will it quite at all after the break in period?
reef-fisher
Nope. It is still the loudest piece of equipment I have. When I shut off the Skimmer and return pump for feeding, the tank is near silent.
jason7504
oh that sucks! yeah mine is too when i turn my skimmer and return off..ive heard of people replacing the stock skimmer pump with a tunze skimmer pump..but there's no point in that, just use the tunze but is there another pump that would fit in the stock skimmer that would be quieter? reef-fisher
Maxi jet 1200(whistle) Ive heard a quiet one 2200 was used on one, and im sure there are more, but I cant think of any. The only thing I didnt like about quiet one pumps, is that they are not self priming.
jason7504
will a mJ1200 fit on the skimmer?
reef-fisher
There is a mod that can be done in the solana owners thread at RC. Not the cleanest looking thing, but I guess it would work. Personally I will be getting a tunze 9002 when I can afford one, with the stevie t cup(clap)
dstoneburg
Skip the stevet cup and toss it into the second chamber.
reef-fisher
I would like to use my second chamber for a fuge, unless there is something better. Do you not like your cup/skimmer combo, Dale?
dstoneburg
Put it in the first.
dstoneburg
If I could do it all over again, I would have the tunze in the second chamber and the fuge in the first.
reef-fisher
I thought of that, but I was worried the skimmer would thin out any pods that may return to the tank for food. I guess pods arent THAT important though, on this small a scale.
reef-fisher
If I could do it all over again' date=' I would have the tunze in the second chamber and the fuge in the first.[/quote'] Can you not change it back? Did you change out your return pump?
