AquaKey
I'm curious what your experience has been with Reef Pi or non-Apex controller. Did you cobble stuff together or take a more semi-DIY route? What types of connections/add-ons do you use? Apex is too much of an investment for me at the moment. Seeing what others do instead.
SuncrestReef
Reef Pi seems like a very cool project. Unfortunately I'm not much of a DIY-type and have zero electronics skills. But I still glance at the gigantic Reef Pi thread at Reef2Reef (nearly 17,000 posts) every once in a while just out of curiosity to see what people are doing with it.
Shar_Zard
IMO it’s not worth it. You can pick up an apex classic($100ish) for a similar cost as reefpi, the apex offers almost as much robustness as reefpi. With reefpi you still gotta buy the probes, which are a chunk too.
AquaKey
@Shar_Zard didn't know about a $100 apex. Is that buying used? It's called Apex classic?

The Apex Classic was the previous generation before the current Apex model was introduced in 2016. You’ll often find them for sale as people upgrade to the latest model. Beware that buying used models that old often means you’ll need to purchase new probes, and it’s common to see rust or corrosion that can make them less reliable. See my Apex Hardware Overview article for more details on the various models: https://www.reef2reef.com/ams/apex-hardware-overview.775/
TheClark
Hydros is looking strong! https://www.coralvuehydros.com/ Out of all the interesting information, a 4 outlet WiFi power strip for $40 is what really hit me. The APEX EBs are so dang expensive. Will be interesting to see how it shapes up.
