Mike nickerson
I finaly upgraded to a sump yesterday and my return pump is blowing bubbles even though there isn't any signs of bubbles /micro bubbles . Anyone know why this is happening?
LC Scott
Your return line likely has a air leak, it's drawing air in.

Bicyclebill
I've got little micro bubbles in my return now too! How can I have an air leak without a water leak? I've got an external pump, so i'm very confused by what is up Sent from my MB865 using Tapatalk
Burningbaal
if the leak is on the intake, there is negative pressure so air will be sucked in and water won't come out...same reason a venturi skimmer works
steelhead77
Another reason this could happen is that as the water falls into the return section of the sump, small bubbles form that you might not be able to see. As the return pump sucks water, it also sucks up these bubbles and fractionates them. These then enter your display as micro bubbles. If water is falling into the return section (even only a couple inches of fall), you will have some bubbles. I'd bet that if you put a flashlight up against the side of the sump and looked closely, you would see some bubbles. It only takes a few that get sucked into the return pump to create millions of microbubbles in the display. I've solved this problem by adding either a small filter sock or something else to break the fall of the water and trap or eliminate the larger bubbles. Jeramy
My skimmer puts out a lot of bubbles so I put some filter floss around my pump with th floss sticking out of the water and it stops the bubbles and lets them escape to the surface with out going back into the display =)
