jbru70
I bought some live rock with misc corals on it and I was wondering if anyone knew the name of the white polyp in the center of the picture? It was a smashed blob when I got the rock, but it came back nicely.
NoobtoSalt
It's aptasia anenome. You will have a ton of them at some point in your reefing life.
jbru70
Well now that I know what they are......... I just read that they are a pest of some sort and should be controlled or eliminated. What problems do they cause???(scratch) Should I kill it???(threaten)

What problems do they cause???(scratch) Should I kill it???(threaten) That's really a personal question. I didn't mind having a few in the tank but they can become over bearing if you don't try to control them a little bit. Use aptasia x on them and it will help. arredondojason
they can sting your corals and injure/kill them. i personally remove them asap. Also if you have a plastic syringe boil some rodi water and hit it with the water then suck it back up without moving the syringe and it should suck it back into the syringe. richmckee
I've got some unreachable ones in my overflow right now and cannot get rid of them until i get a special nubis that eats them. At the moment I apply apastasia X every 3 weeks to keep the accessible ones under control. Get rid of it now.....I don't know anyone that would want them

jbru70
It is a really nice specimen, I think it will still have to go. I picked up 3 peppermint shrimp for good measure. I tried the boiling water in the feeder syringe idea and failed. Im gonna wait a few days and if the shrimp havent ate it im gonna pull out the piece and use a small soldering torch and BBQ it
Burningbaal
Try lemon juice in the syringe or hydrogen peroxide. about 0.5mL delivered right at the mouth should kill it but will get dispersed so fast in the tank nothing else will be affected. the peppermint shrimp may not go after such a big nem. Kasasah
I have a few that are almost 1inch in diameter. I had a two inch mushroom floating around the tank I was trying to grab and later my wife found it in the aiptsaia... It was trying to eat it.
