Today is the Day, Last Day to be precise, for the April entry deadline. Once tomorrow rolls around there will be no more excepted and those who have failed to "Report" will b e disqualified form the contest, prizes, and bragging rights.

There are only 5 people who have yet to post theirs in the thread so this is actually looking rather good. It also seem that there are some great camera men\women here, keep up the good work everyone.

Sliding in here like Indiana Jones with the door closing!

B634B405-A95C-4901-A08C-C4985696BE47_zps

My setup is a 93g rimless cube, with 2x ORs026 lights over it. Flow in the display is 2x Jebao RW15's, running a little under half speed on 'pulse' mode. I feed Rods about 3 times a week, flake most days, pellet roughly 2 times per week, no target feeding plans as of right now. The display is plumbed into the garage where I have a 40g breeder frag tank, sump with a Vertex 180i skimmer (and neck cleaner, woot). I run a calcium reactor and do not dose anything else on a regular basis. Lights are on 8 hours. These will be placed on the sand bed at the bottom of the tank.

Here are the frags, both a little angry as I got back from a work trip and mr wrasse decided to flip them over. Punk.

Zoa has 8 heads, paly has 3.

I returned from vacation and all of my polyps from this are gone. Seems someone/something got hungry...

I'm out

AWW Man, I am sorry to hear that. I can imagine you were pretty unhappy about that. I hope your other zoas are OK.

That's sucks! I woke up to my paly frag disc empty as well a few days ago. Luckily I found the stray polyp in the filter sock and stuck it to a new disc. Everyone ok with that?

Looks like we lost 3 contestants overnight to the deadline rule, slims down the numbers I suppose.

There are only 2 prizes after all...

If you got a sweet hitchhiker morph like the Clark did I would not be surprised. These rocks came directly from Jodi and he got them from a transhipment so they have had very few hands on them. If you indeed have an other type of Paly I would love to get in line for a trade after the contest is over.

So I assumed yesterday I had no new growth... didn't look like it at a glance.. didn't pay real close attention because iv been dealing with this skimmer issue... but I checked them out real close today and have 3 new heads on the zoa and 1 new on the paly..

      Hello everyone,
Its been three month since I start my aquarium and it finished the cycle within two months.  Ammonia, Nitrate, and Nitrite are undetectable. I'm ready to add some corals now.

      Aquarium parameters

Ammonia/Nitrate/Nitrite Untraceble to the test kit
      Temperature - 77 F (+/- 0.3 F)
      Specific gravity 1.026

What is in my system now
Bought BRS Water saver plus RO/DI unit with the RO reserver tank/faucet (I could justify this to my wife DI unit is seperate- Who can resist clean water ) I have 40 lbs of CaribSea Speacial grade live sand ( it created 1" sandbed) and Dry rock from BRS. 50g Cube 8g sump 20g refugium with 20 lb of live sand (Looking for Macro Algae that won't go sexual) 10g RO/DI reservoir gravity fed with a fixed float valve  Oceanreview T247 LED 10" above water surface running blue at 100% (0700 - 2200) and daylight at 50% (1200 - 1900)  Skimz mini 143 skimmer Eheim heater I do 20% water changes every week BRS media rector (two chambers) Have two happy fat clowns that I bought in 2013 and the aquarium that hosted them have thousands of Ampe/cope pods which I will carefully transfer to the new sump
Plannig to add the followings soon
2 MP10's (will this be over kill? and does any one have MP10 that need to get rid of so I can get them cheap) Calcium reactor: Planning to buy AquaMaxx S-NANO Calcium Reactor ( any other suggestions are welcome) Aquarium monitor and control system (Reefkeeper or APEX? How about Seneye?)
Since this is a small tank I'm planning only to keep SPS, LPS (may be 2-3) and few Zoas. Following are what in my mind. They are pictures I got from internet and do not know the names of most of them (Can someone tell me the name of these corals). Obviously I won't be able to host all the SPS in my tank.

Following are the cleanup crew I'm planning to order.
Nassarius snails - 2 Blackfoot Trochus snail - 1 (After 6 months or if I have algae) Blueleg Hermit - 1 Regleg hermit - 1 Cerith snails - 4 Emerald crab - 1 (Tiny one after 1 year or if I have hair algae) Sand shifting goby - 1 (After 1 year. Can I add this guy since my sand grain size is large. Will the sand hurt it?) Papermint shrimp - 1 (After 6 months)
I would prefer to buy the coral from fellow reefers. Please let me know if you would like to sell some frags to me.

These are the questions I have now
Do I need to run Carbon and/or GFO now? Is it ok to add all corals over a short period of time (one month)? Do I need to increase the intensity of my LED for SPS? Am I giving them enough light without causing an algae issue? Do I need to get an algae scrubber although I have a refugium? I really love green manderin gobies.I had one male manderin a few years back that I trained to eat pallets. One day he decided to end his life, after staying 1.5 years with us, by jumping out (I forgot to add the screen) So I want to give another try with one of these guys may be after a year. Anyone knows a  place that sells pallet trained healthy green manderins?

Your comments and feedbacks are much appreciated.

Looking for some cheaper frags of LPS, SPS and zoas hopefully in like the 5-10 range or can possibly trade for some. Right now the main thing I have to trade (due to a tank crash that im finally recovering from) is Duncan coral, I have a colony of around 150+ heads that I can frag (usually I sell it for about $8/head unless buying many heads).

Let me know what you have and what you want for it. Im really looking for some more torch corals also.

This grow out frag will be going into one of my shallow acrylic tanks.
Aquarium- Acrylic and about 120 gallons
Filteration-Moded Coralife skimmer with Reef Octopus needle wheel pump.
Circulation-Maxi Jet 1,500 Gallon Per Hour Circ Pump and the good old Koralia 750 gallon I believe for a total of 2,250GPH. I aim to get better flow soon this tank soon enough though.
Daily\Weekly additions-Activated Carbon, carbon dosing, 3 part dosing BRS style, variety of frozen foods for the fish and coral gumbo.
Fish- bi color angel, coral beauty angel, pair of percula clowns, and an algae blenny.
Lighting- the new Reefi LED for 12 hours on and 12 hours off.

      PH 8
KH 9-10 I don't want it this high and aim to let it lower some before dosing again.
Calcium 500 comments same as KH above
      Magnesium 1500
      Ammonia 0
      Nitrites 0
      Nitrates 5-10

      Side Shot

      And Top Down X)

I have a total of two polyps to start with...Actually I had four but I cut mine in half to make sure my friend Lex got to participate as well as I. It was my system that they got blown around in any ways. maybe they will show up...

      Maybe not :(

There is 300 pounds of rock in the system as well so who know where those polyps are.

Once again I hope Jesse does not mind me utilizing most of his write up for the rules of the competition. If it is uncalled for please let me know and I will see that it is taken down but if it is fine with you then it is much appreciated.

Well Contestants this is the official thread to post your entries! If you post your entry in another thread it will not count. Contest begins May 1st! You have a week before and a week after to post up your picture. This competition will run 4 months!

Ground Rules: The goal of this competition is to be both educational and fun. I am hopeful the winners will be able to share their "secrets" and truly see how different lighting, supplements, dosing, and tank parameters can make a difference in growth.

Rules and Guidelines for The Premium Aquarium Grow Out Competition.

1.Your first post must include a quick write up of your system in the competition thread. Including tank size, flow, lighting, placement of the frag, frag measurement, equipment (ie calcium reactor, dosing, etc), feeding regiment, etc.

      2. You will be required to post photo updates. The contest will start May 1st. You will be required to post a photo update once a month. I will remind you of this when the time is soon to post. I know life gets busy and people go out of town so you have a 2 week window to post. You will have 7 days before the 1st and 7 days after to post your update. If you do not post within the allotted time frame you will be disqualified.

      3. Please no cheating. This competition is meant to be fun and for bragging rights. Cheaters will be disqualified and banned from any future competitions(PEDS were not used for Frankenfrag).

      4. The frags must remain on the original or similar plug. You may modify the plug if needed example cutting off the stem for placement but only once. You may place the frag anywhere you want in your tank and you may move it to a different spot during the competition but it is frowned upon  and you cannot move it to a new tank as the point is to see how the frag does over time in different systems.

      5. Initial photos of frags need to have a top down as well as side shot so we can all see the frag and what you are starting with, a ruler next to the frag to provide proof of coverage is preferred. No hiding encrusting parts in your photos. Not following the rules will cause you to be disqualified, I know that sounds harsh but it is out of fairness to the rest of the group. Remember a lot can happen in 4 months. During the last growout many were DQ'd due to not posting. It's really simple. JUST DO IT. Length of competition: The competition will run for 4 months. This will give us enough time for the frag to grow. A lot can happen in 4 months and a lot of people could drop out, so if you are persistent, you have a chance to win the grand prize. This will give EVERYONE the same advantage\disadvantage with acclimation and so on. Pictures will be required frequently for updates. Final post will be September 7th 2016 for the winner.

Judging a winner: Will be a little different this grow out. The most growth over the frag plug from the initial size wins, Mounding will not be a factor. We will make the final measurements by September 7th preferably with the same ruler used in the initial few posts.

Winner  of each category shall have glorious bragging rights along with the honors of choosing a desired "Nick Name" for their winning Goni.

      and there will be prizes...
The first being a $50.00 gift certificate to The Premium Aquarium
and Second wins a choice zoa or SPS frag pack.
and Third will get the zoa or SPS frag pack not already taken by 2nd.

Here I will be including a list of people who have checked in that will be updated over the length of the competition.
