  1. Gear cabinet starting to come together nicely. Thought about getting those fancy brackets to hold all the power bricks but velcro and a couple screws did the trick and looks clean. I relocated the ecotech pump controllers to the front where the American dj power strip is.

  2. Thanks all for the ideas! The jack post maybe the way I may go. Something I can easily do myself. I want to say the joist are 12-16' long. The wall is an exterior dining room wall with a big window. And yes if I do want to go bigger or wider I have about 12' of width. Hmmmmm

  3. Actually I will put it against that wall perpendicular to the joist as there is a heat register there that I can disconnect and run my plumbing into the garage where I can keep the sump. Makea it easier for maintenance and I can implement awc.

When in doubt, a brace is pretty low cost and easy. I think I used 2x 4x4x8 (or 10...forgetting), 2 pier blocks, a bracket or two just to help things stay put while I placed everything, and some wood shims to snug it up. Definitely a sub $50 venture for piece of mind.

No doubt. I was hoping I wouldn't have to since the crawl space entry is in a closet. Hope I can get some concrete blocks down and drag some 4x4 through it.

Parallel to the joist is never ideal. I'd consider some cross members to neighboring joists as well

My lat 300g display i put cross members  for extra support. Looks like I will have to do it here as well. Uggggh I was hoping to avoid having to do that. It's the only spot I can put it too other then my garage.

  6. So I've just been going back and forth on whether I want o set up the 80g system in the living room or (since I got the ok) just play with my 30c and look into a 5-6'x 24-30"× 20-24" DT. So that would put me at around 150-240g in the DT plus a 30-50g sump and perhaps a 10-20g ato rez. Putting the weight at around 2000 to 3500 pounds? Should I put floor supports in the crawl space? Looks like tank will be sitting parallel to the joist which wouldn't support the weight properly? Here are some pics.

That plumbing cannot be unseen...my eyes...

please tell it’s not hooked up to the tank please!

Haha it came with the tank. I was thinking about redoing it cuz it looks kinda janky but my plumb work ain't that great either lol

  8. Got my other apex energy bar in. Waiting on another dos/ddr set. 2 Radion xr15 and m2 return should be here tomorrow. Put the aquascape in the tank to see the final layout. Getting closer to getting it wet. Maybe in a week or 2.

  9. Thanks everyone. Since I have time to stare at my aquascape. This thing keeps growing lol. I thought I would balance out some areas. Added a couple more archs and ledges and still have lots of negative space within the structure. Does it look too much? 20201208_001434.thumb.jpg.9f7b4687b46a53418443d3c60ffd656c.jpg

Thanks.  It's not exactly your size, but it's nice to finally be getting more space.

I must have missed what size your DT is. I don't have a big system yet. Still working on my 80g system. But I am planning it now. Want to really think of my end goal and work back from there.

Welcome back to the game. Sounds like you had a pretty epic system. Biggest advancements if you haven't been keeping up are lighting (most going to LEDs) and reef controllers. I'd be looking into those if you're interested.

Yeah definitely. When I left we all laughed at led 🤣 💀.  Now led leading the charge in all growing applications 😉. And yes controllers, dosers and auto water testing looks to be more mainstream. I have a build thread i started here. Only a measly 66g DT 80g system for now. Check it out
