  1. I would be shocked if it was your salt.  I ran a successful sps tank with instant ocean.

I like the idea of piranha like pods...never heard of that but seems logical. Yes on the alk being a tad lower.  Especially when using two part.

High nutrients wil cause your corals to brown out but not to die. There has been a rash of complete and rapid tank deaths lately.  The only one I have been privy to was the result of toxic dino explosion.  This typically happens as a result of a bacteria population that is out of whack.  Which, obviously is impossible to see but is quite common with dry rock started systems... ask Eli.

After ruling out pests, i would try and find some sources of live rock.

  2. My calcium has been rising steadly over the last couple days.  Even though I have only been adding alk to get my calcium down.   Oh, and I dumped a whole jug of magnesium powder into the system because I added a bunch and didn't see any real change.

So of course I am like... maybe the reagent is almost empty..Can't be, I just replaced and calibrated them... .. maybe I need to clean the sample vial.... maybe I should open a ticket with neptune.

So I am at work staring at my fusion dashboard and it dawns on me.  you know what, I bet I installed the vials in the wrong positions!!

So the downside is, you figure out what is probably going on.... and you can't do anything about it until you get home from work.

    Thanks Obama!

  3. Hey so yeah, BRS is buying marine depot and marine depot is having a really big sale with 40% off of almost everything (except the stuff you would be really excited to get for 40$ off).

Still though, some good deals to be had on stuff.

  4. If you have sps then i would be much more concrened about your phosphate readings. You don't want to be above .1 and ideally, you dont want to be above .05.

If your nitrates get to 20 then i would start dosing vinegar (if you have a big tank)  or doing more aggressive water changes if you have a smaller system.

  5. My whole house AC is down so my halides shut off when the tank hits 81.

It doesnt hurt anything.  I mean... there are very cloudy days in the tropics and i still have t5 and reef brights running.

  6. You only time i flush is when i start to make water and flush the membrane itself (manual flush).  If your not flushing your membrane and just letting the water that goes through your RODI system get flushed down the toilet, well, you are just wastinf water.

The increased tds you are seeing post sediment filter is just a flush of sediment that comes off the filter when water starts flowing.

You want pain?  I go through 10-15 gallons of top off water a day and blow through an entire catridge of anion resin every 150 gallons of water.

Not so bad though, i just recharge it with lye.  I have like 3 gallons of the stuff so only have to recharge twice a year.

But anyways... flush membrane a couple minutes and then make water..  o tds is o tds.

    Cheers
