  1. Sounds like I might be picking this up from C&C so want me to give you a shout when I have it?  Would be good to hook up anyway as we are pretty close by if I recall correctly.

Sounds like a fine plan. A good excuse to finally meet up. I live on Alberta!

  2. Well gee, let me know the next time you are headed this way and maybe we could get together for an adult beverage and some reef BS [emoji4]

Will do! I always like the I soak up some local microbreweries and have some good company when on the road.

Thanks for sharing. Sounds like you've found a combination that really works. Friday night Montana style chili feed......mmmmmm sounds good. I used baked arm and hammer for a couple of years on my last tank. Followed the Randy Holmes-Farley recipe online. I was having issues with the brs sodium carbonate spiking the ph and precipitating out no matter where I dosed it or how little I dosed. The arm and hammer worked very well. Columbia falls is really nice. I get out that way twice a year for work and go between Libby, Kalispell, Whitefish, Columbia Falls, and Glacier. I always meet really nice people on my trips there and they all have a real communal vibe and always ready to help people around them. I guess you have to stick together out there. Drove and camped north of Lodgepole last time....the town has no power and runs off diesel generators and solar panels. Very remote and untouched for sure.

  4. Great thread Roy! It's nice to see what people spend the majority of their life doing.
I am a pediatrician by trade so if you have any questions about kids :cryingfit: I can probably help you.
As far as usefulness in this hobby,
I hate plumbing, electrical work, handy work in general lol so that's why I am a big part of this forum and I greatly appreciate those of you who are good at it. I know I have sought out help many times and always appreciate it.

I believe in sticking with what you know.
I am great at organizing large scale and smaller scale events and finding the right people for all the roles that are needed.
And if you are in search of sarcasm I am there! :moneybag: (again not sure what this guy is doing but I like him [emoji6] )

I do have a knack for knowing what a high end coral looks like and identifying many zoas. I also was the one who actually discovered the Oregon Tort and the MattV Orange Envy ( disclaimer... I'm totally lying about the Oregon Tort and the MattV Orange envy! ):peace:

I thought you had a special thing with kids! Might have to hit you up the next time my wife is worried about the baby!

  5. That is cool stuff!  Seems like a good market to be in.

Yea, it's fun and keeps you on your toes. The industry it always in a state of change and we're always having to adapt and get creative on how to deliver energy saving to utilities. They can't depend on lighting savings as much as they have in the past since leds are now the norm and Fed standards in lighting keep going up. But that is the ultimate goal in the end....onto the next technology. Right now it's CO2 heat pumps.

  6. Awesome tanks!  Thanks for sharing.
Can you tell more about your setup?
What lights are you running there?  Are all the tanks on the same sump?

Yes, tell us a little more! Are you running a ca reactor or dosing 2 part? I don't see any fish, if not, what do you dose to get some nutrients for the coral? That's a lot of snow....where are you? Seems like a nice oasis to come back to after being out in the cold.

  7. I'm a building scientist for an energy efficiency consulting company where we design and implement EE programs for utilities in US and Canada.....think energy trust of oregon. A lot of excel and emails, but I get out in the field around the NW for QA work, building performance testing, commissioning, and training. It's fun but I miss my old job.....was a remodeler for about 15 years and specialized in trim work and cabinetry. So if I have more time I could help folks out with tank stands or if you want to know how to make your home more energy efficient and comfortable....and I promise I won't tell you to get rid of that energy hog fish tank!

  8. +1 on the link above, that helped me out. I had a hard time settling on a spectrum while trying to figure out what looked good to my eye but good for growth and color. Good to see some actual testing. I have AI 26s but they have the same diodes, just twice as many. It is definitely blue, but you can tweak it from there to dial it in to how you like it. Only a percent or two more of white makes a big change. It limits the red and green that can fuel algae growth.
