  1. We'll then I guess this forum isn't for me. If we can't have a sense of humor, get along, and learn from each, then there's nothing here for me (and my husband). I too have been flamed and I've only been on this forum for a month. I was flamed because I posted a xenia crab joke. I was basically called stupid by another member based on the assumption that I would purposefully attach xenia to a shell...assumptions.... I am a women, a young successful executive, and I was NOT offended. I don't assume and I am open-minded - giving persons first the benefit of the doubt. Those of you who still wish to associate with me, you have our contact information.
  2. He's just joking....self-deprecating on his previous post. Chill.... -- Wendy
  3. Not intentional at all. The Xenia stalk was a total surprise to us - we have no idea how it got there on the shell. After laughing at the poor creature for a bit - although he seemed to strut his stuff by walking around to all of the other hermits as if to say "look what I have!" - we pulled him out of the tank and applied vinegar to dissolve the Xenia stalk.
  4. Nope! It's the latest fashion for hermit crabs!
  5. Very nice setup! Knew you were "the type of guy with a cool setup"...you just looked like you're a person that does things once and does it right! :-) (I believe we met Saturday at SO.) We're in Gresham as well, around Persimmons area. We were in the hobby about 10+ years ago, but much has changed since then. Still learning, so your posts are a gem. --Wendy and Cliff Smith
  6. Cool! I think we have two of these clown babies in our tank. If Jon is the same Jon from SO in Gresham.
  7. I'll take some octopus xenia, yellow polyps, and the purple and green hairy mushrooms if no one claims these. Caveat, I'm on the eastside and don't get out your way much. I'll be at Holly's for the next meeting but that's about all I've got on my calendar for heading west in the upcoming weeks. PM if you wish to meet up and have some ideas. Also, are you the same individual currently listing these same corals on CL? Just curious. If not, I'll know I have an option B, so to speak. Thanks!
  8. One aspect not mentioned yet, is that supporting universities and private industry in raising marine animals supports marine research and helps increase our understanding, and husbandry of marine animals common in our hobby. It supports our personal duty, as caretakers of these animals we enjoy in our mini reefs, to protect them in our tanks and in the wild. I'm not perfect, but do understand I have a responsibility that may mean voting with my dollars (as in pay a little more for aquacultured animals) or having forbearance/patience at times. LFS and online stores generally do not get my money for livestock unless the creatures under consideration are aquacultured. Otherwise, I look to fellow hobbyists' livestock to stock my tank (of which I do have two wild-caught fish, live rock, and some inverts). And, of course, I look to everyone on this forum to help me stock my tank with your frags :-)!
  9. So far, I would like a dainty pocillipora and two aussie blastos. These have been on my wish list. Also looking for euphyllias as someone mentioned above. And still looking for easy, breezy frags, so don't be ashamed to post the "weeds", cuz I may want them. I would take an ORA birdsnest, but I already have two frags of these. Actually ORA birdsnest are one of the prettiest SPS corals IMO. I don't have frags to trade, my current tank is only a few months old. Just have some paper with dead presidents to trade :-).
  10. Okay. I just threw a big ball yesterday. When it get's to be a moster again, I'll send a PM. It doesn't take long. I throw a ball out roughly once every two weeks. You'll need to be the one to pick it up. Of if you'll be at the January meeting, I can bring some to Holly's.
  11. I have Red Gracillaria if you want some. Grows faster than my other macros. I'm in Gresham.
  12. We're new to the forum, invited by Holly. We'll plan to be there. It's an exciting opportunity to learn from everyone and to pick up a few more frags from Holly. We're specifically looking for corals at the ends of the light spectrum - intense-lighting and low-light loving corals. Hopefully she'll post some pics of her frags before the meeting, so we can pre-plan. -- Cliff and Wendy Gresham, OR
  13. Just returning to the hobby after being out for ten years. Bought a new Reefer 450XL and 'vbeen stocking our tank with other people's discards via craigslist to keep our wild reef impact at a minimum (We want to see these creatures when we're snorkeling and scuba diving, not just in our tank :-)) and to maximize acclimation/curing by other reefers. Just met Holly last week who encouraged us to become members. We're now sponsoring PNMAS members. This week we learned about Cuttle Fish and Coral and drove down there today to check it out. Very cool place. To our surprise, they had beautiful little captive-bred hippo tangs! We're so excited as we heard about this advancement in the hobby and had wish to obtain one, but thought it would be years down the road before we'd be able to have one in our tank. The little cutie is doing great. Thanks Cuttle Fish and Coral!
  14. Hi, Holly. Cliff and I enjoyed seeing your gorgeous tank and learning about PNWMAS. We're now members! Our mission, since jumping back into this hobby mid-summer, has been to stock our tank with creatures from other hobbyist, so that we have minimum-to-zero impact to existing reefs. Except for two corals from a LFS, all live rock, sand, fish, inverts, and corals have come "craiglist" postings. So we're so happy to interact with other hobbyist through this forum in order to continue learning, growing, and stocking our tank. All of the corals we bought from you are doing excellent. Even the toadstool is open this morning before the lights are scheduled to turn on. We'll give it a few weeks, then will probably be back for some more of your beauties as we continue to aqua-scape our new tank. Thanks again, Wendy and Cliff Smith Gresham, OR
