  1. My system was just started 8 days ago. Put the Mangro's in an hr ago. Rarely have detectable Nitrates but I'm always looking for ways to make my systems more stable. Mangro's are pretty amazing.
  2. Hard to say. These might be as good as my Giesemann. I guess I wont know till I try em. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Implimenting STAGE 3 of my filtration system. Mangro's have redeeming qualities.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Teach-em-while-there-young! Explained the nitrogen cycle all up to introducing SPS corals to my grandson, Scout. He never lost interest! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    FLOW HELP

Have you ever dove in the ocean? There is no such thing as too much flow in a SPS Tank. If your overflows can take it and the water does not spill out over the top of the tank then I would say your good. Unless the occupants in your tank like less flow....
  6. VERY NICE. Love the rock breaching the surface. Like to see a Mangro Tree growing out of it. Good Job!
  7. Welcome, What store do you work in? You are probably doing a good job with your tank but the small size of your tank gives you very little margin of error with regards to your water quality. Sounds like you might have too many fish creating too great of a bio-load on the system. Very hard to keep your nitrates and phosphates in check. Good Luck!
  8. You can sand all those scratches out if you want. Takes a little elbow grease. I have sand wet sand paper that goes from 2,000 grit to 20,000 grit. I use it to remove scratches on my planes plexiglass canopy but it works just as good on tanks.
  9. BREAK-IN-PERIOD ..... Day 5 Ok I was Sceptical about: This Bio-Sand stuff but it appears to be working quite well. Either that or feeding 15 fish 3 times a day for 5 days has not created 0 readings of: Ammonia Nitrites Or Nitrates. Diatoms are starting to grow nicely as expected. I hope I not in for Filamentous Algae next. They say breaking in a tank with LIVE rock still should have some short-term spikes in Ammonia, Nitrites & Nitrates. Thats kinda Crazy. Always Cycled tanks the old way with just fish and rock. Do you think I could continue for the next 25 days with No readings of Ammonia, Nitrites or Nitrates. I guess I'll find out. PS My skimmer kicked it up a notch to sucking 42 Liters-of-Air per min! Bye for now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  11. I have my ideas but they are not always the best. How do you deal with humidity/Evaporation if you have a 200 gallon +\- tank in your home? My system evaporated 8.9 gallons a day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Thanks! Whats DSB? Not up on all those hip terms.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Thinking of using Miracle Mud in my new Sump in a separate 40 gallon container with 30+ Mangro trees planted in it. Never used it. Have any of you? Is it any better than plain crushed coral you might put on the bottom of your tank?
  14. I LOVE Zoa's........Its not a bad idea to read the latest on Polytoxins. WELCOME! I'm also newbie to the group.

  16. Thanks Wendy,It was nice meeting you and Cliff. I guess you guys are my closest Reefer friends! I have had a Salt water Set-up since 1982 and never really talked to anyone much about it except my College buddy in Scarsdale NY who has....had a reef tank. You mentioned you and Cliff had evaporation concerns. There are several ways to address that which you probably are aware of but by far the best is to exchange indoor air with fresh out-door without loosing heat in winter and without introducing heat in the Summer. You would need a heat recovery ventilator ie: I would love to see your Red-Sea set up. Have Cliff call me if he wants Cell (503) 260-9111. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Well, I spend a few months a year at my Ranch in Joseph Oregon and my wife drags me to our AZ home a month or so a year.
  18. Those are beautiful. I'll take em but I got to give you something in return.
  19. VERY Awsome set-up! Can't wait to see it.
  20. Yes evaporation is always a concern. The ceiling has 5 mil plastic and waterproof foam over it. The system evaporates 8.9 gallons/day. I am installing a single venting pipe the length of the ceiling with a high CFM fan to outside controlled by room humidity and or temp.
  21. Super clean work. Gonna be Sweet!
