  1. Interested in the alk checker and the dry rock. Do you know ow what kind of rock it is and are you willing to lower price on alk checker?
  2. Could you use the marine pure blocks under the skimmer?
  3. Ok so I finally got a skimmer and drilled out the holes for my filter socks I'm confused on what I should shoot for for baffle height the skimmer needs to be between 7 and 9.5" but I have 20 inches of height I hate to loose that much volume should I raise the skimmer up so I could have more water volume throughout for the refugium?
  4. I have called Jeff he said he has one more at betta price but told me he has to talk to them before he will take my money! So I'm patiently waiting for them to respond to him. Thanks everyone
  5. Who is Jeff I would like to contact him to see if I could still get one of these at the promo pricing
  6. Also for glass you can shop around 2nd hand stores and buy old tanks and then break them down. I paid 10 dollars for a 30 gallon and 20 gallon at habitat for humanity. Then cut all the seals cleaned and cut to what I needed for baffles. Class is alot easier to cut than I expected
  7. Yea he seems to be in just got a text from him today about a firmware update for the app think it's pretty amazing customer service to text his customers
  8. I just recently purchased one of Dan's lights for my future build so I'll be watching your build to see how they work out!! Seem like awesome lights
  9. Awesome thanks for the input blue z reef I think I'll go with the simplicity then!!!
  10. Thank you for your input so you do not feel recirc. Is that much better than a cone style? Sorry doing some research and so far the only pros I've seen is recirc has the water longer to potentially skim more and can be ran out of sump
  11. I'm looking at 2 different used skimmers. One is a hydor performer model and the other is a simplicity dc 240. Anyone have experience with these and which would be the better choice. Thanks in advance for your input
  12. Welcome to the club I am also new here but so far everyone here seems extremely helpful and friendly!!!
  13. Would this also work on glass panels under water?
  14. I just bought a 3 and 3/4in hole saw from amazon seemed to work great
  15. awesome sounds great would love to do that one of these days and was very nice to meet you!
  16. Thank you I'm glad to be here in fact at the expo today I bought my wife's and I's membership. So your just pumping water in from the return chamber and then letting. It overflow back in? I plan on running socks seems easy enough to have 4 or 6 and just to change them out every day or few days. Have any pictures of your setup? I just fill with both a skimmer and refugium you get the best of both worlds in nutrient control and a pod population. But really want to know if I need to t-off or if the skimmer leaves enough nutrients to feed the macro. Thanks for the input! I'm using glass to build the sump as what it has if I go flow through is there any other way to stop the macro I will have a bubble traps before the return also I'm using a 55gal so I feel I will have plenty of length to set everything up. With the flow thru did you notice any difference in the refugium area? Thank you everyone so much for the replies and look forward to learning so much more.
  17. Thank you I really like the idea of flow through opposed to both flowing to the center. But am really curious if I actually need to have one overflow specific to the refugium area. Or if filtering all through the sock then skimmer would be ok.
  18. Hello everyone I am fairly new here and this will be my first post other than my intro. I have been lurking here for about a month now and also have been researching all over the interwebs to try and get a good game plan to start my first reef tank in around November. So that brings me to my questions about sump design. I had a game plan of building it so I would enter through filter socks and then onto the skimmer chamber to refugium chamber to return chamber. but then I ran into conflicting points that you want water to go straight into your refugium before being skimmed and others saying it makes no difference and also people saying to have the fuge and skimmer on opposite sides and the return in the center so both overflow into the return chamber. I am curious on how any of you have set yours up or have any recommendations. I would like for my refugium to hopefully house pods. also do you have recommendations on what to run on the refugium other than chaeto? (sand, rock, marine pure, miracle mud, bare?) Please let me know any info you guys have for a complete newbie to this and I'm excited to hear your responses!! - Thanks in advance Vance
  19. Well I bought my first piece of reefer equipment today!!! Also last night I tore down the tank I planned to use for a sump last night! then after pricing out 1/4 inch glass for the baffles I found it would be cheaper to just buy a 55 gallon on the dollar per gallon sale and use the old tank for glass panes should of gave me enough to make around 16 baffles if needed Then I began to remove the substrate from the soon to be salvage tank to find this :( So now I have to decide do I cut up the brand new tank or take it back or try to sell the full tempered glass tank!!! or maybe you guys have some insight for some cheaper glass shops?
  20. Also thanks everone for the warm welcomes seems like this will be a great group to learn with already!!!
