  1. Hi All,

Jeff at Cuttlefishandcorals has generously offered to supply some vendors at the Coral Farmers Market on Sunday with pre-mixed saltwater. We need a volunteer with a truck or a van to pick up the saltwater from Cuttlefish and deliver it to the Holiday Inn by the airport by 7 pm Saturday evening, when the vendors are setting up their booths.

I would do this myself, but I am 1.5 hrs away in Corvallis, and I am already making the drive up Sunday.

We will give the volunteer 30 raffle tickets and a PNWMAS hat and water bottle for their trouble.

Please let me know ASAP as Steve Tyree needs to get back to the vendors.

Thanks in advance. I am looking forward to seeing you all at the show.

    Andy

I have a 75 gal with a small sump, 5-7 gal. Don’t really have room in the sump for the chiller, would probably have to get an external. Any advice or brands people like?

I've got a used 1/4 horse power JBJ chiller in my garage that I will sell to you for cheap. JBJ is the best chiller brand in my opinion. Are you coming to the frag show?

This event consider rare in out community.

Many well known vendors from LA area will be in town for this frag swap and also a few local stores.

Looking forward to see you all, Let's Go!!!

I am really looking forward to this. In addition to the advertised vendors, I believe that Paul Hamby from Seattle has decided to do the Portland show as well as the Seattle show. Top shelf vendors all around!

  4. In my systems, I use mesh bags in filter socks with rowaphos to lower phosphate. I do it this way because it doesn't lower phosphate too fast like a reactor can.

My chaeto and skimmer keeps my nitrates pretty low, so I usually end up dosing nitrate to keep it around 15 ppm.

We are getting dangerous close to the end of nominations.   Secretary nominees need to accept.  @Yourmedicand @reefrun.  We still need nominees for President and Vice President.   The club cannot continue without leadership.

I worry that we are not going to have volunteers for President and Vice President this spring.  I do think the club could continue if it is run by the Board of Directors and tasks are split up among us all. It would obviously be best, if we had a President and VP, however. If anyone is interested, please let us know so we can nominate you!

Hey organizers, care to share any more details about this fragging demonstration, and what might happen to the freshly fragged results?  (wink)

Yes, we will frag several corals and then raffle off the frags. We are still working out the details of which corals we will frag.

There will also be a raffle of a Reefi Uno 2.0, Oregon Tort frags and phytoplankton!

In addition, Seahorse is offering a 10% off coupon for livestock for paying PNWMAS members!

This meeting is going to be a good one! I hope to see many of you there!

    Hi there!

I'm Brian and brand new to the forum, so I just wanted to introduce myself.  My wife and I live in Sandy, OR with our kitties (And fish.)  I have been in the hobby about 10 years and really enjoy it.

    Cheers!

    Welcome!

Club members will get a free raffle ticket when they arrive to the meeting and a 10% off coupon for livestock purchases on the day of the meeting!
We'll post updates to this thread as we finalize plans.

Hope to see you all there!

Thanks for the response. Did you use nopox before the problem or did it help fix the problem? I used to use it when my aquarium was doing better but I stopped when things started going wrong.

Nopox is a good way to bottom out your nitrates.

    Salifert Nitrate test is clear.

I should have tested the water before I did my cleaning. My water changes, and cleaning out the gunk, must have really helped or I already had low nitrates.

I just watched a BRSTV video that said dinoflagellates might be caused by low nutrients. I just can't believe that would be my problem.

In my experience, dinoflagellates can come when you have higher phosphate than nitrate. If your nitrate is 0 and your phosphates are .06, that could be the issue. Skimmers are good at reducing nitrate but not as good at reducing phosphate. In my systems, if I don't dose nitrate, I end up with phosphate higher than my nitrate like you have.

I recommend getting a high range Hanna checker for nitrate. Then dose nitrate until you get to about 5-10 ppm. You can use Neonitro by Brightwell, or make your own solution from sodium nitrate.

    Good luck!
