  1. Looking good!

Thanks man, everything seems to have made the transition.

I started dosing vodka three days ago so I'm looking forward to seeing what that has to offer. I needed to drill an air intake hole so that the bottle doesn't suck in as the doser pulls from it. Since alcohol readily evaporates, I figured I'd rig the air hole with a check valve. Works flawlessly. No hole for evaporation, yet it can readily take in air as needed.

Fleischmann's! Only the best for my corals! Believe it or not, but it was 1 dollar cheaper than HRD.

  2. Normally you would post this in the WTB section. Unfortunately I cannot move it for you ATM, but it's not a problem. Have you reached out to some of our sponsors? I know that Cuttlefish and Corals and The Premium Aquarium are known to carry these aquariums.

  3. So I'm currently running a 90 gallon with taotronics LED's and a HOB remora skimmer' date=' though I'm working on upgrading to a six foot tank with a 55 g sump and thinking about going with a bubblemagus skimmer. As for freshwater I sold my goldfish, but I still have a betta tank, and I have a horse trough with goldfish in the greenhouse. I had originally bought my 90 gallon setup with the intent of moving my FW angels into the 90 and getting discus and using my 55 as a saltwater tank but it came with a sailfin tang and a foxface and once I got them home I fell in love with them and didn't want to trade them to the LFS and knew I couldn't put them in a 55 so I sold the angels and decided to go big or go home with the reef tank. [/quote'] Sounds great. I look forward to seeing some pictures of your set up.
  4. Thoes airbags hurt.. iv been nailed by a couple of thoes before lol

Yeah, we didn't collide with them too bad. The resistance was predominately the seat belts as we weren't going that fast. We both had some burning from the bags though. I hadn't experienced that before, but it was only a little bit on my wrist. It was crazy how smoke filled the car got from those bags.

  5. Rolling around with badxgillen last night and had some kid pull out in front of me. He tried to cross an intersection while we were driving down the street. We had no stop so we were just cruising along. He crossed the street behind an oncoming car so we never saw him until we hit. He ended up spinning around and facing the exact opposite direction. Me and Robert? We're good! :)

The most annoying part was that my horn was stuck on until the fire fighters arrived and could pry my hood open and unhook the battery terminal. Everyone was ok and the kid had insurance so it isn't the worst thing in the world. Feeling blessed for the protection.

The lil Subaru looks like it's permanently out of commission.

  6. Picture didn't work. What kind of uploading method are you trying?

Man, I couldn't imagine coming home to that mess after such a long journey. Tank failures are certainly a fear that every tank owner has to live with. The wife and I live in an apartment and I'm always concerned about that. Although, even if the tank failed, the apartment knows about them and we carry insurance. Hopefully that'll keep us from getting evicted. :)

Did you de-rim the 40 yourself or is it a stock rimless?

  7. Ok, here's the final product, definitely nothing special. It still looks like a fallen over reef, but I kinda like the look when the setup is more flat. While it may be set in stone, the setup is not set in stone (see what I did there?). I may move things around as I develop the scape more. I have a bunch of homeless coral that need to be placed as well.

  8. Well the tank swap was successful. I had one war coral that got a bit upset and suffered some tissue loss. Thanks to Robert (badxgillen) the switch went as perfect as could be expected.

Currently everything looks like a toppled over reef, but I'll be rescaping later today. Here are a couple shots of the progress. I thought I got a good one of Robert, but then realized he has his eyes closed. Oh well, guess he'll have to live with it. I always wish I could take more in progress shots, but once you get going, you gotta just go. No time for midway shots.

    The previous tank:

Here's Robert getting ready to rock and roll:

Everything put together and in place (still need to hook up the other light)

Hopefully I can clean this look up a bit. If not, oh well:

Here it is today after the other light got put up:

Now it's time to scape the rock work. :)

Big thanks to the homie Robert. I can't say it enough, he's the man!

  9.

It's a hot topic on Reef2Reef. Triton recommends 4x 15% water changes. I am undecided on my course of action right now. Where does it come from I wonder?

I was thinking the same thing that Rudy posted. Where are things like lithium coming from? If you are doing regular water changes, then doing more water changes isn't going to control that. The salt would be the first guess, but maybe also a byproduct or additive in some of our dosing chemicals.

If it was the salt, I wouldn't understand how levels would progressively climb. They would stay rather constant because we pull out equal parts of salt water to how much new salt water we add. That would leave the various additives we are putting into our system as the culprit. Something must have small levels and over time, it consistently builds up.

However, maybe it doesn't even matter :) Here's to hoping for the latter!

I am not sure if the other site already discuss this situation.

Most do have water change regularly and the test result still showing some questionable anomaly, I see most received recommendation

to do water change for corrective action. For those that already done water change regularly how would the water change will be working

for corrective action when actual regular water change already resulted in the anomaly being there in the first place.

    Changing salt perhaps.

    i :)

  10. Wow.Your 40 gallon looks locked' date='stocked and loaded.I like like the sleek design of your new system.Best of luck with the upgrade![/quote']

Thanks! Only a day and a half until the upgrade. Nervous and excited.

I like the manifold off of the return pump' date=' so future proof! That is awesome she built your screen panels, have fun on the build. I think I remember that clear panel on the bottom was part of the 'display sump' someone had done. Curtains are a simple solution, cool.[/quote']

Thanks Clark. The four way is actually something that was already put together with the plumbing that came with it. I ended up just plugging each of the outputs, but I can utilize them if the need ever arose. Until then I'm just p plumbing right back into the dt. Maybe I'll put a carbon reactor or something on there.

I am hesitant to hook anything up on the same line as the return because as that flow changes (reactor starts clogging) it will alter the flow of the return line which means I'll constantly be fiddling with my Herbie overflow.

  11. A lack of posts should not be confused with a lack of attendance. Finding good information and research does not necessarily mean one needs to participate heavily in another forum. Like the Prez said each site has it's place.

Perfectly said my friend, I don't think it could be put any better.

no please don't misunderstand me. I love pnwmas' date=' it's the only forum I visit still but I wouldn't know what I know toady without reef central. pnwmas Is more like a club to me then a forum.[/quote']

Well that's good because we are a club. Yes we have a forum, but we are a group of individuals who are friends and can hang out with one another. We are a group of people where you can post that you are needing help and several members can show up at your house. That's something you can't find on an international forum. Also, like it was already mentioned, more people means more opinions. It's tougher to get reliable information from so many people you don't even know. Of course there are the exceptions. I would believe anything Tom Barr had to say on plantedtank.net. Likewise, I would believe any chemistry argument from Randy Holmes-Farley on R2R.

However, because I am actually getting to know people on this forum, I can better trust their information. I would trust Micah to program an apex with his eyes covered and no hands, I would trust Kevin to help me with photography questions or answer something about the history of the local reef community, I would trust Robert to show up at the drop of the hat to help rescue my system if something went wrong. These are kinds of qualities and characteristics that are tougher to develop with bigger forums because you don't know the people beyond a post or a PM. Here, I know these people from personal conversations and proofs of their abilities.
