  1. Great to have you on here. It's great that you have an interest to bring a marine environment into your classroom. Our Tank For Teachers program is currently undergoing some developments and being better refined to promote the most successful program. I will make sure you receive the introductory information and you can decide if the program is something you'd be interested in taking part in.

  2. Yeah' date=' so I calculated for the dry soda ash, which is what I have and it gives 0.1 oz as an option, which is why I'm a little confused. How do I dose 0.1 oz of the dry stuff? Obviously, I need to mix it in water, but I'm not sure what ratio of water to soda ash. I'm guessing it's in the same ratio as when you mix up a whole gallon of the stuff, but I just want to make sure. Thanks for the input![/quote']

Apart from the effects on salinity, I don't think it matters how diluted you make it. Just make sure it is totally dissolved and add to sump or high flow area.

  3. There is more than just the tank involved. Because of the tank failure' date=' there is water damage to the walls, floors, and equipment loss. Marineland is liable for the tank at minimum. Possibly even the collateral damages. It depends on how it is handled by the insurance company. The homeowners insurance could pay the claim and then go after Marineland through subrogation if Marineland doesn't come through willingly.[/quote']

That's exactly what I said. They are already filing with the homeowners to get the room put back together. Add the tank to the list of things. Then you don't have to worry about Marineland because your insurance will deal with them.

  4. I don't know if others have had this problem, but my skimmer goes crazy when I put my hands in the tank. Once it's dialed in, if I put my hands in the tank for more than a couple minutes, the skimmer will immediately start wet skimming and overflowing. I was having problems getting my skimmer tuned and I finally realized it was directly correlated to my hands in the tank. Whenever I do extensive stuff in my tank I have to turn the skimmer way low and let it skim like that for a couple hours. Then I can turn it back to it's normal spot.

  5. Anybody down for visiting and/or hosting a tank tour in the area? Please comment whether you would be willing to attend and also if you want to host. I figure we'll do a couple in Albany and a couple in Corvallis. Four tanks shouldn't be too bad time wise, but I'm up for suggestions. Let me know and then we can start working on times if there is interest.

    I'm willing to host!

  6. I was just re-posting this

Hey thanks for that post. I actually have a Reef Fanatic pH controller, but no probe. I don't even know if anyone sells the RF probes anymore.

I used Lamotte for 10 years or so. Switched to Hanna checker and it's about 2.5 dkh lower' date=' and matches cheapo API spot on. Now I just pull out the API every once in a while.[/quote']

    Thanks for the insight.
