  1. Yeah, short of gearing it up.... eek.. A couple questions:

    • What is the axle of the retrieval spool riding on?
    • What's the diameter of the spool axle?
    • What's the estimated diameter of the full dirty roll?
    • Do you have any rollers along the fleece path?

  2. About 8 months dosing about 10ml a day. Yes it does as stated In description.

Hah! Sorry, didn't see that. My. Notification cut that off for some reason and didn't give me the ... Like there was more. Oh well. Missed it.
  3. I never said NOT to use it.... Just didn't know the person's confidence level not using an out of the bottle product.

In my experience, advising something that doesn't have directions on the container and the amount dosed could be misinterpreted, is more risky. Which is why I suggested the fritz stuff.

The BRS heaters are junk, mine were also allowing 2+deg swings when the hysteresis was set to 0.3

I've been super happy with these cheap ones. rock solid, very precise, excellent hysteresis. I've been using 2 for 6+ months.

I think you should qualify that it's the controller you don't like.... the heaters themselves are rock solid and have been used reliably for many years under the schego brand name.

FWIW, it can work in tandem with the thermostat on your heater, as an extra level of protection.  I believe you can also set audible alarms as well if things go out of range.

If cost is not an issue, an APEX is hard to beat, it can do this and allot more.

This is how I'm using the inkbird's on my setup. I let them manage the temp (so yeah, 1 deg swings, bleh), and the APEX handles out of norm conditions.  ie, turns off inkbird if temp gets too high and alarms if temp gets too low or turns off the inkbird if it gets drastically lower (probe fell out/probe error).

I'm actually mocking up a PID controller for temperature control at the moment. With the super simple titanium heating elements (no circuitry, just a coil of wires) it should allow me to reliably keep within 0.05 of a degree in my tank.  I just need to source a more reliable solid state relay and I'll have it done-ish.  The one I have I'm unsure if I'd trust it on my tank.  I'm still trying to find somebody who's done this or can tell me why it isn't the normal method for controlling heaters.

Which BRS version are you referring to? I'm not too fixed on price as I'd rather invest a bit more for a better product that won't fail :)

Interesting.. They seem to have pulled the "Controller only" option.   https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/titanium-aquarium-heater-system-bulk-reef-supply.html

That's the product I'm referring to.  They used to sell only the controller as an option, but I'm not seeing that anymore.   You could just get a whole set and not use the heater... or get the right heater element and call it an upgrade?   I'm using their titanium heaters and they seem to be legit.

I have a roll of 100 micron filter paper. I believe its 300' long.  Its about 8" wide but you can cut it down with a hacksaw.

I bought a 24" wide roll for the new "monster mat" I am building but ended up making it 16" wide.

    Dibs!  I'll take it!

Anyone know where to by CP online? I used to order it off eBay in bulk specifically to medicate external parasites in fish. I’ve used all mine up and like to keep it on hand but can’t find it anymore.

I think @pdxmonkeyboy had some recently. You may want to hit him up.

  9. I have a bunch that I "sterilized" from @Bicyclebill's tank a couple weeks back.  It's been bleached and muriatic acid'd.... If you're interested, shoot me a pm and I'll give you some pics.  Most of it is florida reef rock, but some are some pretty sweet pieces.

I have 100+ pounds of this, all sizes. It’s stinking up my neighborhood sitting out in my driveway in tubs. Needs a muratic acid bath. Come pick through what you want as soon as possible please! As Tom Petersen always said, “Free is a very good price!”

I'll take 40lb-ish of it off yours hands.

  11. I'm going to have about 70 lbs of green turf algae infested live rock available in a couple weeks when I tear my system down and restart with bigger tank. I'm guessing 2-3 months in the dark with vibrant dosing would make it quite nice again.
Green turf algae is no match for hydrogen peroxide or bleach... ;) Ill gladly take it off your hands and "process" it for future use. It's the perfect weather to have a brute can full of bleach in my driveway. Hahaha.
