  1. I have a plug with some yellow zoas and a nice little green yuma you can have if you take the time to pick it up. Im in Beaverton. Pm me if you'd like to have it.
  2. Whenever I place a fish into my quarantine and notice brown stringy poop I will feed 14 days worth of this treatment. Shortly after the treatment I will see the poo go from stringy to flaky powder form.
  3. Higher alk means more co2 which I try to avoid to keep my ph higher . My theory just from my own personal experience and seeing different peoples tanks is lower alk means slower growth but better coloration. Could be because the slower growth allows for "fattier" tissue buildup therefore promoting brighter coloration. Just a theory. Sorry if its off topic.
  4. Sorry for the late reply. Someone already picked it up.
  5. Haha, well thanks for being tactful about it. I can definitely appreciate that. I wouldn't completely disagree on the whole "weirdo" thing though
  6. It's a joke. Sorry if it came across as anything other than that. Glad I made the switch. I'm sure I'll be saving a little on the electric bill. Every bit helps
  7. Its in the garage. Before my display tank and grow out tank would run simultaneously but now one shuts off and the other comes on. Ph is stable but my sleep is not haha
  8. I decided to run the grow out tank in reverse cycle mode. Not only are my fished confused by it but it seems that it has also messed with my internal clock. I've been up til 4am two nights in a row now! On the bright side my ph is 8.31 at its lowest and 8.33 at it highest.
  9. They're getting expensive. Soon I won't be able to afford it. Sucks!
  10. I have about 3-4 lbs of live sand out of my tank. I've been slowly thinning out the deep sand bed. It's sitting in a bucket with water. I'm going to throw it out later today if no one wants. I'm in Beaverton. I will not be available after 7pm. Dc is fighting Jones and I don't plan on missing it!
  11. All of the a above. That's what happens when you start at 12 years old with no internet. I didn't even know about forums like this one til 2012.
  12. Wow, I would really like to make it to this one. I hope everyone puts aside all the politics and makes it out to do what we love doing. Great way to kick off the year.
  13. A 600g tank with anything less than 1" acrylic is just scary.
  14. Haha. I actually got excited when I saw this since I'm looking to change salts. I wonder if that was done on purpose..
  15. Id say shut off at 7.6 and shut off again at 8.4? Just to stay within an acceptable range in case anything like this ever happens.
  16. That is a great idea. It was a stand alone doser so it didn't cross my mind. Now I run the reactor with a ph probe as a back up. Hard lesson learned for sure.
  17. It was a vertex libra. Normally an awesome and very precise doser. The one I got just happened to have bad firmware.
  18. 2014 was not a great year for my tank. Two days ago my tank hit the two year mark. The first year went fairly smooth as far as new tanks go. A few algae blooms were the biggest problems. I started making a small collection of mostly sps and a few carefully selected lps. I also purchase a large collection of very nice zoas and a beautiful flame nem. Around September of 2014 I noticed my kalk reactor was having a hard time keeping up with roughly about 450 gallons so I decided to install a vertex libra doser to keep up with the higher demand of sps. In October I walked into my garage to the smell of smoke and about 3 gallons of alk 2 part dumped into my garage over night. The doser had a firmware failure and kept the pump turned on for a few hours. I lost nearly every single thing in my tank except for a few fish. The ph dropped to low 6.1 and my sand bed turned into solid concrete. I did many water changes to try and correct the problem but the damage was already done. I then attempted to break up my sandbed and make it like it once used to but that only created more problems. My tank has since been slowly improving but it has been very stressful to the point of throwing in the towel. Best thing I've done for my tank was switching from a doser to a calcium reactor. I hope 2015 is a better year for everyone and if 2014 was successful I hope that success carries on throughout the new year. Thanks for reading, Jorge
