1. Well to be honest it is not a hard 20 - or a consistent twenty - more like 12 tanks over a spotty 20 years. The longest being up for 6 straight. This is number 13. And it's going to take some time getting this up to snuff.
2. Hey thanks PowderBlue! This isn't my first rodeo (I have like 20 years xp with reef alone). That sump is going to maintain most of its size specifically to accommodate a large skimmer...I have an old diy one around here somewheres... And that beananimal overflow is just what I was thinking - the added length or width of the stand will give me more room underneath anyway. I read about them 2 days ago I think. A couple more pieces of acrylic, some bulkheads, and some wood and I am in business!!!

The 83G.

I didn't have the bug for a new tank until after being here 5 months with nothing. Then I picked up an Advanced Aquarist while waiting for the clerk lady at the Petsmart to sort some live meal worms for the dead ones. That was it... Started hitting up the CL looking for a tank and then accidentally came across this site...well not by accident - I clicked and here all of you people were talking and trading and having a good time. So I lurked. Then I signed on, and then I joined... Then I got up to speed. This is serious now. I know that is tough talk from a guy with no tank and just a bunch of random equipment... NOW, however is a different ballgame. Discussed it with the gf and we agreed on a budget for me and trade in helping her with the structural parts of her sculpture (which I was doing all the time anyway). So I am on the cheap. Then in pursuit of an enclosure, pm'ing with Steve_HashFish, he told me he had this thing stowed away: Then I got this: They have both seen better days, so I am starting this thread to prove to myself this tank and his friend have a future. The tank itself is 48"x20"x20" (a solid 83 gallons) and will be cleaned, repaired and if I can't get that weak corner overflow out, it will get the chop. I haven't decided if I want to go overflow on the left side or coast to coast along the back, but I will figure it out depending on where it's going in the house (wall or corner). The sump tank - a weird 50 or 55 long-tall 48"x13"x20" - has a stress crack on the face low-middle-left, so it is definitely going to get hacked into, (it's too long any way) rejoined, baffled for skimmer, display fuge (thanks for the idea Garrett), and return. I'll probably build in a rack for filter socks and a separate one for probes at the very least as a couple nice features. Then a custom stand and all the other crap in forthcoming posts. I might go with all reclaimed materials. Any input at all is most welcome. If anybody has a good idea I will try to use it and give credit where due.
4. Sounds like a good idea - add a cheap grow light and yer in business.
5. That's the one - they work great - I used to work picture framing (really big stuff) a long time ago and these came in real handy. Good luck dude!
6. Harbor Freight has good ones for a good price.
7. HEY!!! ANYBODY WANT THESE ON A PAYMENT PLAN OR FOR FUTURE FRAG SWAP?!?!?!?!
8. It's going to get going whether I sell these things or not, I just want someone who is rockin' halides to have a sweet, barely used setup. I tried craigslist, got too many $50 offers...Reef2reef is the next move, just hate arranging payment and shipping.
9. Thanks PowderBlue. I am honestly just trying to fund my build, hopefully to begin soon.
10. Yeah - for a second I thought you might have swapped the clear tube for an opaque white one...not really, but that foam is DENSE!
11. I was hoping to give someone a deal here first, and I did say best offer...I'll keep it up for awhile, but I think I am going to take my CL post down. Talk about lowballers... thanks for the support kev311
12. Sorry - not worth it to separate the set. I'm going to have to post on Reef2Reef or somewhere else.

14. Make an offer - I don't really want to separate the sets. Also, I do not believe these will fit 400 or 1000 watt bulbs
15. Bump up - c'mon make me an offer...I'll listen to almost anything at this point...
16. Cool! Good to know.. Thanks wegotjs!
17. I had an achilles tang in my 120 and I fed him nori and formula #2 - I added garlic juice to the frozen stuff. Also fed some Tang heaven mix from Indo-Pacific Sea Farms. It's expensive, but I never had a healthier tang. Website: http://www.ipsf.com/tangheaven.html
18. get some macros for him - its what he wants most.
19. Just watch him - if he eats he should be good. Provide him with a well rounded tang diet.
20. I'm not a sports guy at all, but that is a funny play on words. I didn't see that Kole Tang either. And I really didn't pay attention to how your system was plumbed - particularly the closed loop. Looks like you might need to get all that under a stand someday.

Acro ID

Tri-color acropora sp. Best guess I can come up with. So many conflicting names... +1 on definitely not red planet
22. Nope, I am going for a size I am comfortable with and would consider upgrading to a similar size, better looking tank in the future. My priority is getting going and maintaining as perfectly healthy an atmosphere as I can before going for looks. I can tell you with the amount of questions I get about a tank I don't even have water in, I am going to have to start a thread soon...
