1. Have you been able to dial it in so you get a thick skimmate? I know with the bubble blaster I owned it took me quite a few tries to bring it back from skimming over-wet.
2. Oh I know how they work - and I am talking about just making a couple for me, not production. I just don't know enough about electronics to recreate the pulse modulation in a nice tidy little package...
3. Never 2x4 - takes up too much space and too heavy. Sticks of wood on end are much stronger than you might imagine. I think a single 2x4 has a breaking point of like 6 or 800 lbs. If I can get my hands on some square tube then I will weld up a stand, and if I could afford aluminum...but I love crafting wood. 1"x2" or 1"x3" hemlock frame and maybe match the lizard tank, but probably not - each piece of furniture is sort of its own entity.
4. Get them deals. I have been very happy with my Koralias, but would really like to get my hands on a pair of those Vortecs. One day. I wish I was better with electronics - I bet one could figure out how to replicate them.
5. Thanks! Just wait though - I've got some plans for the new build...(plotting)
6. Fish are friends...not uh...whatever...I love fish
7. Quite the price tag attached to this. Personally I hate - absolutely hate aiptasia, so I can relate - I burned out a tank with bleach a dozen years ago to kill those things - after moving everything I wanted into a new tank - with a dip along the way. And then I threw it all away. If you got the dough, go for it!!! A UV on a brand new setup (and many will say altogether) is unnecessary, in fact counter-productive. MP40's at $450+ a pop is crazy talk for me - at the very utterance my girlfriend would kill me in my sleep...Great plan though. Change is good and will keep you working and thinking.
8. I just poured out a little beer in the back yard for your trigger - sorry to hear that.
9. Anyway dude who cares everyone cares about their reef and doesn't want to be insulted regardless of skill level. We were talking about salt right? I think I might have an opened bag up in the rafters of my garage...I hope it works out - it should have about 35 or 40 gallons worth - 1/3 of what I'll need when I start, but I hope the humidity hasn't gotten to it.
10. I made this skimmer a few years ago and I think with some modification it will be great for this size tank. It's 6" tube. 27" tall. Water was moved in through a uniseal hole in the bottom through a diffusion plate. I might try to make it a recirc. Does anyone have any experience with recirculation skimmers and how effective they are?
11. Right on. It's salt. I imagine over time it might deplete some trace elements but I am talking atomic half-life time... I guess it was a rant. I had problems in CO with people and lame comments when my tank was new. I made most of my equipment so it wasn't all shiny with a cool sticker, but it got the job done. I'm here to have fun and share. If I didn't want to hook up with like-minded people I would just keep it all to myself.
12. Tank and sump See you later to the too small overflow.
13. Good deal 4 year old salt at it's finest - sorry I almost hi-jacked your thread.
14. And then a hot water bleach run through after if it stinks! 4 tanks?!? Kick - ***!
15. Who cares - it's a hobby. Have fun. You know square dancing and bacci ball is really fun when you get into it, but it looks lame from the outside. We're all expressing our internal uber-nerd with talk of polyp extension, color morphs, parameters, etc. Who gives a . It's not like we're really breaking down the barriers of accepted scientific thought. Compare guys who collect guns facing down the eminent zombie invasion - that sh!t is never gonna happen - just like hobby aquariums are never going to save the global reef systems. Who has a faster car, hottest girlfriend, most teraflops on their graphics card. Does it matter? No. It's fun. Collect guns, drive fast, play games, and have some mf'n fun with it. Who cares about all that other crap...not me dude.
16. Yeah dude keep going. The chipped glass must have been a heart breaker for your plans, but its whats in the tank that counts most right?
17. The only pic I found with a quick look was in the middle of some kind of dumb argument...anyway Parker your tank looks good...nice start hopefully down a long and enjoyable road. The way you guys seemed so into it when I met you both I figured you all had been doing this for awhile.
18. BADASS!!! The color rendition and growth indicators are gosh darn awesome. Great thread.
19. No, I was talking to Parker - his thread. He and Garrett are the only people I've actually met so far. But sure why not?
20. JeffreyG that was classic...lol...it should be fine dude, like Mitchell said. Are there any pics out there of this reef of yours??
21. What is the size of that thing and does it take 1 pump or 2?
22. I haven't done anything to the tank - it's 2 tanks...
23. I think hta number is the production date.
