  1. They eat detritus. I keep 'em. They don't survive in my 10 gallon with my sixline though.
  2. I could score you some aiptasia, too...
  3. Want some green majanos with red tips?
  4. I got my sixline about 9 months ago. Still going strong. She was teeny-tiny when I got her. Cleaned up the flatworms in my 2 gallon tank. She lives in my 10 gallon tank now. She's the owner of the tank, but is gracious enough to let everyone else share it with her.
  5. Got two frags of this stuff, it looks awesome, and is already growing! Recommended for beginners!
  6. I'm not sure about SWF, but some of the LFS keep their salinity down around 1.022 -1.023. Personally, I prefer to keep it up around 1.025 so that rules out most LFS saltwater for me. I just went with an inexpensive RO/DI unit. It wouldn't even be too bad to get distilled water from the grocery store or LFS with a tank that size, but I agree that a cheapo RO/DI unit is much cheaper in the long run.
  7. I think the key to it would be finding cheap rent. I'm sure if it were out of the way a little, people would still make the effort to get there.
  8. Congrats! My MP10 was one of the top three investments I made in my tank and wouldn't trade it for the world. Now, if I can only convince myself to put two of them in my 10 gallon tank. Then I could keep the entire sand bed in suspension 24/7! Can you say no detritus buildup?
  9. Speaking of TECO palys... Those TECO Forbidden fruit palys have done well for me. They're about the same size as my radioactive dragon eye zoas though. They're in a pretty high light/flow area. But they've nearly covered the frag plug.
  10. I should point out that zoas just don't do all that well in my tank. Some do great, but most just kinda sit there and never multiply.
  11. Another thing that helps is if it's a colony that's been in someones tank for a long time. There's a lot more variability with frags freshly brought in from the wild. You'll have better luck getting known hearty frags from existing local colonies. I've only ever once lost a frag from a fellow reefer, and that was a single zoa polyp.
  12. Yeah, I've bought freshly fragged zoas. Had a few not make it. But that's also why I no longer will buy a single polyp of zoas or palys.
  13. Probably not. Did you dip it with something like Coral RX or similar? That will help, and you should be in the habit of dipping your corals before you introduce them to your display tank. Either way, they're quite hearty if your water quality is good. You'll probably notice it pretty well healed up in a couple weeks. They're slow growers... or at least mine are. My green one has doubled in size since I got it... which means it's about 3/4" in diameter (it was a very small frag)... that's about a year of growth. It was one of the first corals. Transferred it over from my 2 gallon when I started up my 10 gallon tank.
  14. Keep your water parameters stable, make sure it has enough light, and feed it occasionally. My favias like mysis shrimp. I have a neon green one and a red/green war coral and they are hearty and easy to keep. No more difficult to keep than your average soft coral.
  15. If this halameda does well and grows, I'll have to prune it regularly to keep it from going asexual. It's supposed to be slow growing, but I'll save the prunings to share with folks.
  16. Yeah, halameda is too calcerous for fish to eat. It actually breaks down into aragonite when it dies.
  17. Nano tanks, eh? I will be checking them out!
  18. I don't think so. I haven't had much luck with macros in the DT either so far. My MP10 ate my shaving brush algae. I think the main thing with halameda is to make sure your Alk/Calc stay up as it's calcerous. From what I've read, it's pretty hearty.
  19. Hey mattv, what was the larger frag. I've totally spaced out what it is. The colors are amazing under my lighting. It really brings out reds, blues and purples.
