  1. I agree with the bad advertising. I see so many things like that. 29 gallon tank ads showing yellow tangs, hippos, nasos etc. Its bad because people think they can set it up that way, and I am often the one to break them the news they cannot. There are other cool things you can use in the ads that are honest, responsible, and attractive...

  2. my 180. I dose 1.5 cups sodium bicarb mix (1 and 1/8 cup per gallon mixture) and .5 cup soda ash mixture (i think 2.25 cups per gallon). As well as 1.5 cups calcium mixture (2.5 cups per gallon) everyother day. Running bare bottom with heavy load. This is just to maintain acceptable levels, 8ish dkh and 400ppm calcium. I dont run high levels

  3. If it is a magnetic ballast it probably needs the capacitor replaced. That is the part that builds up energy to initially fore the bulb. I am guessing it is magnetic vs electronic because electronic usually just go out, they dont gradually stop working. IME

  4. My family owns the detroit lake marina and if you need a job next summer i would love to help you out. crappy thing is we are closing down here in 2 weeks and there isnt a lot that goes on during the winter.

Love that place! They do good work!

  5. Sorry for your delay, I know how frustrating it can be!

I have also had such inconviences. How do you become a "known" shipper? To me that makes no sense. Who is supposed to know you? Kinda stupid...maybe try to find a known shipper in the area to have them ship it for you.

Good Luck! Hope your livestock is ok

  6. First take the things off and clean them as much as you can. Reinstall and see if it loosened them up. If not buy a rebuild kit and a manual for the bike. Carbs are easy and if you mess up, it CAN be fixed. Just take lots of pics to help you know where everything was. If you dont have the tools, you should get them...having a bike is a lot of maintenance and costly to have done. I would rather buy the tools and learn than spend money to have someone else to thhe same. My can do most the things on my ninja with. 10 and 12 mm socket and some screw drivers.

  7. Something similar happened to me. Dishwasher popped. Breaker didnt trip but was fine (switched it to a circuit i knew worked). But my volt meter said 60-80 volts (around half what it should be). Ohm meter said circuit was ok and i had continuity. My uncle (electrician) said it could be that a connection or the line itself partially blew and was allowing some but not all current to flow, making troubleshooting hard because it says its good but its not. Also said it may be that the polarity is swiched (black and white wires mixed up (newer outlets have one larger hole, which i believe is on the left and should be the white aka common wire). Try just changing that outlet too, maybe add a gfci

Ohming the circuit will tell you of you have all connections secure and if you have continuity. Volts will tell you how much power is going. Did you volt meter it?

You will have to know which outlets are on the circuit, check all visable connections, ohm it for continuity fpr the ones you cant see, and volt test it.

I ended up running a new line because i was getting so much conflicting info during troubleshooting. RTher than beating my head finding coneections i beat up some walls and ran new lines. If they cant find it fast, just have them run a new line, dont pay $60+ an hour to sit there and scratch their heads, make them run a new one.

  8. +1 for no whining about the hobby. I am so-so on bartering. These stores need the money. Personally I have always been offered discounts, I dont usually ask, but I also spend quite a bit of money. Retailers will almost never barter with wholesalers. I dont barter with mcdonalds or safeway. I dont feel comfortable using a businesses smaller, more personal enviornment, to get deals. You want mom and pop stores, not petcos, you have to support them....

I am also not down with blaming LFS for ich...You saw the fish, you bought the fish, you added it to your tank. They didnt give you ich (You doesnt mean anyone in particular, just in general) Ich happens...

  9. Nice frogs! Where did you end up getting them? They look like great stock! Went with two of my favorites. Make sure the blue jeans have some nice size bromeliads to see some really cool innate behavior with egg laying sites. My pair hang out almost exclusively in them

I recommend giving frogs a shot. They are much like corals in their sensitivity but imagine no water, much easier to deal with. The "hardest" part is keeping up on fruit fly cultures and trimming plants. PS where did you get your plants, they also look like nice specimens. You did great! Time to sit back and enjoy, then add more haha

  11. Awesome! Are those live plants? What did you use to secure the moss to the back? Did you do a false bottom? What kind of frogs you leaning tpwards? Maybe I can share some advice on pros and cons of different species (I have kept like a dozen kinds at least)

I have been helping the guys at the oregon aquarium setup and I have talked a few guys there into getting dart frogs and that was the first thing i told them is go one step bigger than you think you want because the decor really takes up space. Maybe they can pry some out of my collection...
