  1. I would take a real small pair of needle nose pliers or vice grips and hold onto the wires at the base. Then take that barrel off the two wires with another set of pliers. Save as much of the wire length as you can. Then use something like these. The first pic is something i use alot. you can just slip the wire up into the hole and it automatically grips the wires. then just jumper out with another wire to your gfi.
  2. That answer boils down to the kind of person being delt with. I personally will spend more at the lfs just to support small local business. Do I do it all the time? No. I'm also a sucker for a good deal and love diy. But I don't expect something for nothing. I respect our local business owners resources, time and knowledge and make sure I support them as much as they support me. So my response to the question is there is a happy medium and the scabs who suck off of others and don't give back will get what they deserve in the end.

I've been shocked several times but not in that tank. My little blue damsel is a pretty good little tank mate. He seems to be relativley nonagressive. He schools with the 6 line and yellow tang

I've also had a purple psudochromis jump in the overflow column, Also a banded prawn goby and a yellow watchman. luckily they are all in a tank with a covered lid. The banded prawn goby jumped about 4 feet out of the tank and behind the 55g tank onto the floor when i went to get him out of the sump. He almost made it into the other tank but his aim was a little off. crazy little guy had a cape on, but he made it back in ok and is still alive today.

i have a yellow tang, small blue damsel, small 6 line, small diamond goby, dragon goby, cleaner shrimp, peppermint shrimp, fire shrimp, lots of hermits, lightfoot sally and emerald crabs. everyone seems to get along well. the firefish was only 1 week in the tank so he was pretty new, but nobody chased it. The other two fish i lost awhile back was probably from the ich outbreak and the medication probably stressed it. I will never medicate my tank again like that. it did way more damage than good. i probably would of had a better survival % without medicating the tank but just feeding heavy garlic and more frequent but small water changes.
  6. they also make them with plastic housings crimp on style, just gotta be careful that they are rated for the type of wire your using. Also everything that is spliced has to be inside the jbox. i can't believe some of the stuff i see when we tear open old homes for remodels to find open splices in the walls taped together, wires run around studs. imagine if your kid hit a wire with a tack or small nail hanging a picture. sorry for the small rant.

My surface is like a river. 1100+ gph fanned in two directions plus 3 power heads at 1250 and (2) 500's. I like flow. I think most of these fish were fairly new and get stressed when the lights go out.

I noticed my firefish wasn't out like normal. I also noticed i forgot to put the egg crate back on last night after some maintenance, I checked in the sump, i checked in the overflow, i checked behind the stand, ohh look there he is, all dried up, and guess what theres two more fish i never found within inches of each other. DOH! I've lost 2 diamond back gobies, 1 Golden Sleeper goby, and a firefish now to jumping out of tanks. What else have people lost, in what ways? I continually am pulling my lettuce slugs and peppermints out of the sock. I have had dead snails clog up my overflow back to the sump, not a good thing to wake up to with water brimming the top of the tank.(scary)
  11. The other option is move the box up or down a few inches and patch the left over with a little drywall mud and use a bigger outlet cover.
  12. pull on the wire a little bit, sometimes you can get a little slack out of the wall. a picture would help asses the situation. It sounds like you just need about 1/2" more wire so you can reconnect it in the box. you can also jumper it with another wire as long as it all stays in the jbox.

    Chiller 101

I have that setup now running some warm vinegar water through it. Do you think that will get rid of the deposits or should i try and clean the coils with a flex brush?

    Chiller 101

i will try the vinegar, but i'm thinking i will need something more powerfull to get rid of the buildup.

    Chiller 101

I got a chiller off CL about a month ago and am now getting around to looking at it. They didn't filter it so its full of sand and builtup crap. I checked the manf. website for any maintenance docs, but theres very little. What would you pro's recommend i flush this thing out with and get it all good to go for this summer. Its a Pacific Coast Imports 1/10
  16. UpScales is always worth a look in tualatin area. got some pretty impressive tanks. I also enjoy going to saltwater fantaseas.
  17. Nice build thread, I figure if you experience an earthquake, your house may fall down but at least your tank will still be standing. Nice welding on that stand!

    tank sorrow

keep an eye on your sally, i have 3 of them and they can get a bit aggressive towards even large fish. I've seen mine get up on rocks and jump off as fish swim under. I target feed mine once a week to keep their aggression down.
  19. My mechanic bailed on me, he is supposed to be looking at it tonight. I may just have to rent a truck and go down. i think i can get one from uhaul for like $20
  20. Oh and its not a problem, my tank is over run with them, i gotta clear them out. I've already got as many as i need in my 55 and 29, so the rest are outta there.
