Thanks for the kind words.
Aloha!

I had one set up on my display for about a half hour. It was way too loud.

mick, i think they might be goatfish
You are correct. http://www.marinelifephotography.com/fishes/goatfishes/mulloidichthys-vanicolensis.htm

I believe it is some kind of snapper, but don't hold me to it.

My dive partner left his memory stick here since his laptop is having issues. He wanted me to clean up a few photos from our last dive. I figured i would share.

Jewelry Shops on the North Shore buy these from tourists all the time. Good way to pay for some huli huli chicken over by Malama market. Some of these shells are worth big bucks like you mentioned!

That is Palythoa caesia. Some call them Pillow Zoanthids, but they are actually a Palythoa strain.
I have a few cool morphs in the past. The coolest was a green oral disc when the polyps opened while the rest was the tan color. They can be fast to slow growers. I currently have a pretty slow grower in my tank now. They are pretty hardy and my mother colony has been with me for close to 3 years.

Dude.....I've never seen a Ventralis Anthias til now' date=' and I'm not sure I want Jess to see one after seeing it LOL Even beat up it's still the prettiest Anthias I've ever laid eyes on.[/quote']
Agreed
Sweet longfin Kevo! Dig the Helfrich's as well' date=' ive had one for awhile and I love it. Hey, how dificult is it to keep a longfin Anthias? Have you had them before? Ive been looking at them for awhile.[/quote']This is my first... We get them in from the Marshall Islands, not here in Hawaii. The Hawaiian version is deep water and require colder tank temps. Most divers won't collect them as they are a pain to decompress. Most will not live through the swim bladder being poked and no diver wants to wait for a true decompression. Time is money in that world.
He was very skittish in the first 24 hours and pinned himself at the top of a cave in my rock work. After the first day it would hang by the entrance of the cave, but would hide if anything swam by. Toward the end of the second day it seemed interested in food floating by during feeding. First feeding of the third day it nibbled on anything that floated by. Second feeding that day it actually came out for food, but would not get in the mix with the others.
Today is the fourth day and he is right up with all my other fish during feeding time. Hoping to have a few girlfriends for him next week or the following. Definitely a beauty, but with any anthias they need heavy feeding. I normally feed heavy twice a day, so i hope that is enough.

A couple new guys entered the display this week. I tend to pick out the beat up fish. Something about nursing them back to health and watching them get better.
Chevron Tang
Male Ventralis (Females are coming on the next flight in)
Also some randoms pics i took...
R.I.P. - Male Flame wrasse. Found up against the Vortech and he didn't make it. I'm sure the larger of the 3 females will turn male soon.

Tupperware' date=' awesome. Man I was in Oahu in early december for 5 days and I soooo wanted to stop by your place but I swear I spent every free minute in the fricken H1. lol[/quote']
You should have looked me up. F_CK the H1! I hardly ever go into town or waikiki. I lived in Waikiki for 2-1/2 years and then in Makiki (up the street from Ala Moana Mall) for another year before moving to the west side. I don't miss it one bit. That traffic is horrendous.
The worst is coming from town to the westside in the afternoon rush hour. Crazy to see 7 lanes across bumper to bumper from the stadium to Waikele. It'll take you two hours to go 15 miles. (flame)
Kevin does have some mad photog skills, that's for sureYo Kev, what would you suggest I add to the system, livestock wise, once I put the frag tank online, I've got a nano I can plumb in, 15.5 bare tank that's drillable....
With all these tanks you should just trade them in for a 150g. lol just playin'... wait until you move for the 150g. hehe
I don't know what you have to make any suggestions. Shoot me a PM with your stock list.

Wow - nice photography!
Oh, and the shrimp is pretty cool, too.
Thank you
So when your out diving do you just grab those behind the head like a crawdad or just use a net or what?Tupperware

and to feed them just throw a turbo snail in?
This species is a "spearer" vs. a "smasher" so shelled crustaceans may not be the best food for them. Probably some feeder shrimp or small feeder fish are better from what i researched today.

well i wouldn't be ready for it yet but i was just wondering i might want to get the peacock mantis but im not sure yet... are they hardy or sensitive... im wondering what type of filtration for a 10 gallon?
I'm just using a cheapo filter with a carbon bag.
Here is a cool article i just found:
-
how much would that cost?(naughty)
Name your price... (rock2)
-
ya that was a question how long will it do good in a 3 gallon tank?
Not sure... I would assume for a while since they live in a hole the size of a fat graffiti marker and usually only come out to hunt.
I've read a lot of people keep theirs in 10g tanks. I think i got one in the closet somewhere. I can always move it if it looks stressed. unless i sell it first. lol
-
How long have you had it? have you herd it trying to get at a snail yet?
less than 12 hours... I have not.
its in a 3 gallon tankIs that a question or a statement? If it is a question, then yes it is.

ALIENS! ( aka: the military )UPDATE: A state veterinarian tells NBC that preliminary necropsy results from several birds show that they died of "multiple blunt trauma to their vital organs," though what caused the trauma remains uncertain. According to Dr. George Badley, their stomachs were empty, so they weren't poisoned, and they died in midair, not upon impact with the ground. -
Thats cool!!! I've been thinking about getting one' date=' I think it's a peacock, the one that has all the colors.[/quote']
Those you speak of are beautiful! This species i caught are found in a range of colors, but nothing like the peacock.

Was out diving today and figured i'd make use of a 3 gallon pico i have laying around. Snatched this guy up.
Its probably about 3" max from head to tail.
