In my systems, I use mesh bags in filter socks with rowaphos to lower phosphate. I do it this way because it doesn't lower phosphate too fast like a reactor can.

My chaeto and skimmer keeps my nitrates pretty low, so I usually end up dosing nitrate to keep it around 15 ppm.

I noticed in my lagoon , chaeto is very efficient at clearing nitrate so I took out my skimmer . Granted the nano skimmers are difficult to dial in. Have you considered turning off your skimmer ?

Filter roller, skimmer, algae scrubber. I strongly recommend filter rollers.

I was not going to go with a filter roller due to it being something mechanical that could break but seems like most people don’t have too many issues.  I also don’t have much room in my sump for both s skimmer refugium and filter roller but I think I can get by without one.

Do you have problems with low nitrate or do you have a heavy population of fish and feed heavily ?

If there are open tables maybe we could have another free equipment swap. That way non-members can help us clean out our junk!

Thanks for asking this as I hadn’t checked to see if the other booths were filled and it looks like all the spaces are now taken up.

That’s a great idea. If I was running this show I would say definitely!! I’m not sure if those spots are filled now.

Okay crowd, I went through all the picture posts and summarized into this table.   We're down to the last month, we'll judge May pictures.

FYI, as someone running this, I'm not competing.

If you still have a frag alive, but have missed posted some earlier pictures - Please Post a May Picture.   You're out of the running for a prize, but we'd still like to see the final results.

If your frag hasn't survived, reply with that, and i won't look for a pict.  :)

Thanks for sorting this out and help in running this. I’m assuming the yellow means we have qualified without a May picture?

My Frag Entry, #20.   End of April photo.

(Still living on the same frag rack spot, in display tank.  - but Color is great this month)

** Who else has kept their frag alive this long?

I kept mine alive was doing well until I was dosing with All for reef that I mixed myself . (This was before the powder form was available ) and it lasts forever in a 25 lagoon . Happy it still lived after a massive alk shift

yeah its really all up to the tsa dude.  additionally when you leave hawaii there is a second agriculture specific security checkpoint you have to go through.  ive seen them take fruits from people before so idk i could easily see them taking a fish lol

Totally . I know when people go to coral shows and bring frags on TSA people would sometimes give them a hard time. I will just buy the captive bred ones from biota.

born and raised in hawaii.   id be careful about what beach youre at trying to scoop up fish.  people are not going to happy about it.

you arent even really allowed to take sand from the beach.  if you're making a big show of it, and clearly look like a tourist, i dont think people are going to be very happy.

    i wouldnt be.

I could certainly see the locals having a huge issue with someone taking ornamental fish from their ocean particularly as those who were in the trade were shut down. I’m surprised you don’t even need a license. I’m guessing because it would impact those who are fishing for sport and food.

Seems like a lot of places where you could get into trouble and considering an agent made me throw out my oatmeal even though it was legal I’m certainly not trusting them to know what to do if I bring a fish on board.

    Hey Reefers.!.

I’m going to Hawaii in July.
Do any of you know if I can bring back a yellow tang?

I’ll be staying in the island of Kona.

You actually can surprisingly but I am not sure if oregon or Washington has any regulations prohibiting their import.

There are regulations in how you catch them and you can’t buy from someone legally who has caught one but I imagine there are people illegally selling them.

There are several threads in other forums that mention people trying to collect inverts. I would think trying to catch a wild tang in the ocean with a net would be easier said then done and a whole lot more trouble and risk than it’s worth.

    Here’s the link regarding regulations

If you bought through the store here I should have you on the list using your real name. I am sure you will just have to give your first and last name but good to have your ID ready.

    Sweet setup

Indeed this was going to be Sirena’s future seahorse tank until she realized she loves seahorses but doesn’t have time for the maintenance. Chris did a nice job cleaning it up and fixing up the stand.

    Perfect Seahorse tank!

I'm excited to snag up some of these goodies!!

We are going to have people spin a wheel for their chance at the swag. That way it doesn’t all get snatched up for the early birds and everyone has a fair shot at the more expensive items (water bottles and hats )
