  1. Does anybody know if there is anything toxic in food coloring that could be harmful in reef systems??? I have a leak somewhere in my sump tank that I need to track down and thought adding a little food coloring in the water(after it's been pulled out of the system of course) to see where the leak is originating from. I would of course empty it out again but wanted to make sure that any residue wouldn't harm the system.
  2. Thanks. I think I'll use that sump method.
  3. Yeah, I was going to use PVC until Jason suggested using flexhose as well.
  4. I'm curious to know, how do most people know how much to RO/DI water to put back into their system to make up for evaporation? It seems kind of tricky since too much water and the salinity plummets and too little water the salinity would shoot up......just trying to figure out a good rule to go by.
  5. Ask Garret he might have access to one.....or go to Tim at Westside acquarium about maybe ordering you one
  6. If it's moving, I would say it's a Nudibranch.
  7. Does it do Ph as well or just TDS?
  8. he just got his camera back so I'm assuming that's why he hasn't sent them to you
  9. Well since I have a month or more to wait while my 210 Gallon finishes cycling, I can be on the lookout for them and see if I'll need one. If I start seeing them all over, I'll be sure to pick up one. I'm 85% sure it's a Nudi of some sort........just don't know if it's one I need to be concerned with. Are there certain ones that target Zoas and others that eat other types of corals besides Zoas? Just trying to gauge what sort of damage I should be on the lookout for if they become more prevalent.
  10. where in Beaverton are you located? and how late are you there till? I get home around 5:45 so not sure if our schedules work our
  11. Do you still have the dead rock for sale? I left a message on your phone yesterday but never got a response back
  12. Well there are two types of zoas in the tank currently. One is a green Zoa which I think Brandon called Nuclear something and then there are some brown ones. I haven't noticed any zoas dieing are being eaten since there are only 2 colonies of them on two different rocks. I'll try to get a picture of the Nudi if I see any more of them. Hopefully my camera will take decent enough pictures through glass.
  13. After many trips hauling water to fill my tank, my tank is finally cycling! (clap)(I really should start a build thread....I can just get off my lazy butt and take pictures to post along with the thread!) My tank has been cycling with some premo live rock that I got from Brandon a couple weeks ago and some of the hitchhikers are starting to poke out there head. I've already identified some Stomatella snails, asterinas, tubeworms, mushrooms, copepods, Zoas, regular snails, and a big sand sifting chocolate starfish that was hiding in one of the rocks that is the size of a softball in size if you spread out all it's arms. Really surprised the heck out of me since when I was lifting out the rock I was more on a search and destroy mission of some majano I saw on some of the rock and noticed a long arm that I thought was a big bristle worm hiding the rock. To my great surprise when I searched inside the rock, it ended up being this nice starfish. You missing any starfish Brandon?(whistle) What is concerning me is I've seen a couple of nudibranchs crawling around in the tank that are the size of maybe a few centimeters. One of them had a slight greenish top on it that I wasn't sure if it was camouflage or some algae it picked up. Are these things good or bad? I know the Burghia ones are good for Aptasia but I don't have any in my tank nor do I think Brandon bought any Berghia for his tank. I've taken out and killed the one in green already but when there is one, I'm sure there are probably a few more in there and wanted to see if I should pick them out when I see them
  14. What sort of coral eating starfish are you referring to? I just want to be on the lookout for them while my tank is cycling.
  15. Does anybody have the phone number for Blowbubbles? I bought some mag cleaners from him over 2 weeks ago and still haven't received them and wanted to contact him by phone if possible since he doesn't seem to come online much. Thanks
  16. Actually Tim at Westside just changed his hours and he is open on Tue now as an FYI
  17. I have a 5 gallon buckets worth that I decided not to put into my tank after all if your interested. It's still brand new and never been used except a little washing. The grain size is larger than sugar. Let me know I guess if your interested.
  18. Yeah tim is a great guy. I've been going there a lot to get good advice and much needed supplies that are a lot closer than driving out to Portland
  19. So I have a 400W MH with two Actinics. I just recently added some premo live rock and will begin cycling the tank this weekend. I figure this will take around a month(hopefully shorter). My question is how long should I have the lights on during this cycling period?
  20. I think I might have gotten the last of the LR this time
  21. Does anybody know where you can buy glassware that's used in scientific laboratories? I was hoping of getting one of those long glass pippets(sp?) that you fit a squeeze bulb on the end to suck up liquids. I remember using them during my chemistry labs and thought it would be great way to do some targeted feeding without having a lot of the food going to waste. If anybody knows a place that sells them or can help me get some, I would appreciate the help. Thanks
  22. Is that 20L drilled the tank that is your refugium? Can you tell me the approximate dimensions so that I can tell if it will fit in my cabinet?
