    Tank size for Tang

We're trying to plan out our stocking plan for the new tank. It's a 65 gallon TruVu that's 56" long. Since it's a reef tank I can't get some of the others I love, but I'm really digging the Tangs now! (naughty) I know that most places say you need 100 gallons for a Tang, but I also read that you can keep in a smaller tank as long as it's about 5 feet long because it's the horizontal swimming space that's important. Is this true?
  7. We moved in April to a place with a large cold basement thinking that our tanks would be safe down there.. it wasn't cool in the past few days but much better than outside or in the main part of the house. Our digital thermometer said the tank was in the lower 80's but things kept looking worse and worse... we kept testing parameters and everything was perfect, but corals looking bad still Yesterday afternoon my husband went and bought some traditional thermometers (glass ones) and found that our digital one was off by almost 10 degrees!! Our tanks had been sitting in almost 90 degree water! We lost our biggest sps (a rufus that was really starting to take off) and an sps frag before our discovery and more are looking angry. So sad
  8. You mean today 7-29 or tomorrow? I'm here all the day today, but without the car. Tomorrow I will have the car back so I can can meet you at SWF, unless you can drive to my house and I will show you my tank room too :-) (NE, near Alberta).

Thanks to you, was nice to see your beautiful tank.
  12. I really don't think neglecting your photo is grounds for disqualification at this point. Maybe we need to set a ground rule for this going forward.. JMO
  13. Drill an hole and you will know ;-) There is some reference about looking at it with a pair of polarized sunglasses. You should see a "rainbow". Or go to a glass shop, they usually can tell at sight.
  14. wetwebmedia.com is also a really great resource as a beginner. If I could offer the most valuable advise I got in the beginning: 1. ALWAYS research everything BEFORE you bring it home. Every fish, coral, and even crabs 2. Go slowly introducing things to your tank, it will need to adjust to the increased bioload I learned the hard way on both of these Also, until you have your tank really established I'd recommend not getting more shrimp. If they don't have enough food they can start snacking on your corals
  15. It's always sooo exciting when you're starting out

    Reusable clamps

Any idea about where to find some reusable "thumb clamp" hose clamps in the PDX area? I mean something like this: http://www.flexpvc.com/cart/agora.cgi?cart_id=7742704.8404*BN08Y2&product=Hose_Clamps-Thumb Thanks
  20. I never try it, but I'm a web programmer. All you need is to set up your router for port forwarding so that it knows to which internal ip it has to redirect the calling port. Then if you have one of those internet connections with non-static IP (very common for residential contracts) you need to know where to find your router from the WAN, when you are sitting in your office. This can be done for free via a registration to some DNS services and set this paramether inside your router or using a small piece of software on your local machine called updater. It takes more to write it than to make it work :-)
  21. Thanks for the advice! I think I will go for a medium grain sand. Not more than 1 and 1/2 or 2". We are still looking for more live rock too. I'm from Milan, Italy. Not a nice town: just 7 millions of people in the metro area and lots of traffic and pollution. Just like LA but without sun :-)
