Pics of the tank and advice requested as to how to get rid of these 'stains.' I take it that these are calcium/ph related, I would like to stay away from breaking the tank down to get rid of this problem but I don't know what to do. Any advice? I was told by Tap Plastics that there would be no way that they know of to get rid of the haze with sandpaper without creating another haze to it. I guess if nothing else works and anyone else has another 55 gallon acrylic laying around I would be interested. This tank purchase has just been hell all around. I have had to replace the powerhead in the sump, the powerhead in the tank, replaced all the plumbing, replaced all the corroded hinges, restained and repainted the stand and canopy, and now the tank looks bad because of all the haze and scratches. I was told it was good to go and that it was well taken care, I am still trying to give the benefit of the doubt but I am highly suspect that the person selling me this didn't know all this crap was wrong with it. If I had money to replace the tank I would take it outside of my house, stick some dynamite in it and blow it up, but I can't even afford a buffing kit to fix it.

I have already posted an update on the emergency forum, but I thought this was worth another post here. So John took his wife to the dr in Portland, driving from Tigard, dropped her off after the Appt then drove to North Portland to help me with my tank. This meant he spent 7 or so hours working on the plumbing of my tank, we went over to Fantaseas, this guy is awesome, with guys like him active in reefkeeping it really makes it hard for newbies like myself to fill their shoes in the years to come, we have a lot to live up to with guys like this. Again, a huge thanks to John who now ranks slightly behind Jack Bauer on my ranked list of heroes.

Update: John Manrow was over here until right now (10) and he got here a little after 3:30, what an awesome guy! So, here is the scoop for now: The gasket on the overflow was all gnarled up and needed replaced, so we went over to Fantaseas and Patrick really helped out, he gave a couple 45 degree pvcs and a new gasket, we hooked it up to the sump directly instead of using the old hose connection, then everything hooked up fine until the second before John left he checked my ghetto fix on the return elbow and we noticed some condensation that was coming from it, I then shut the return and sump down, I will go by and pick up a 6' 3/4" hose from Patrick tomorrow and bypass the old shut off valve from the return and run it directly from the sump to the tank. So, right now the overflow works, well everything really works except for the small leak coming from my 'fix' of the return. I will send over an update good or bad after the fix tomorrow. Alright I have moved tanks at least a half dozen+ times in my time reefing. Here was the worst and is still on going. I was switching from my 35 hex to a 55g, so I spent all week sanding down the 55 and then primed and painted it. So, today was the move, heres how it went: I connected all equipment, then I checked all the connections with a wrench, it all seemed ok. So, I went ahead with the transfer of the lr, ls, corals and livestock. I go ahead and fill it up, I then turn everything on and the return elbow cracks and sends water all over the living room. At this time all hardware stores are closed as its 11:00, so I go to Fred Meyer a few miles away, I buy epoxy, plumber tape, kalk and some intense molding putty. I then turn it on and it works perfect, then the overflow starts to leak a ton. Note: The overflow is a corner so it is drilled under which means I now had to move everything over to buckets as we had already moved the old tank out, the fish, corals and everything are now sitting in buckets in my house with a heater and a powerhead, so hopefully they can last a day or 2 so I can figure out my next move. Can I get some help from someone on how to fix this overflow problem? I know this is vague but there is an intense leak coming from the overflow but the connection is tight, I assume I have another crack. Thanks for looking, any help would be appreciated. If it helps, I have a monster sized diamond in my 35 hex and he has had no problems, but he doesnt seem to eat mysis or brine.

Alright, Now the project begins. I have just acquired a tank for my classroom separate from the one I have in there right now, I am trying to set it up with the kids from the ground up, so I am looking for live rock and sand for the tank if anyone has any excess or any ugly stuff laying around, I would love to say I would take some frags and fish but that begging request will come down the road after the tank has cycled. So if any of you feel so inclined as to donate a few pounds of lr or ls I/we would greatly appreciate it. I will literally take any LR, DIY, Bleached, whatever. Thanks again and Have a great week!

I wish, this guy won't touch anything in there and the kids are/were always looking for some action between him and the shrimp, the peppermint shrimp will actually sit on his snout and he could care less.

I was running 1 400 watt halide bulb, 1 led, 2 pc ballasts and powerheads/fans. The first time I did have an issue with salt buildup, the 2nd time it died on me within the first couple hours.

my 2 cents: I would stay away from this, I have had 2 of these (1 being a replacement of the first) and they both shorted on me, 1 actually sparked up and about started a fire. I finally returned the 2nd one for a regular surge protector and have had no problems.

Thanks for the advice everyone: the eel is in the classifieds, but I have him under what I think is the wrong species: yellow head moray, I think he is a gold spot, hopefully this is true and I can get some more money out of him to offset the cost to switch tanks. I would love to get a glass but with having summers off it would be harder for a take down and a move. I have a 35 hex right now that was in my classroom but I had to move it as the admin didnt want 2 in the class. It was my preferred for the class as it is an awesome setup with halides, and looks great. I just need to get rid of the eel and tank before I can move this one in.
