    Snails Dying

Thanks lowman, I have been considering changing my lighting a bit anyway. Never thought about evenings being cooler and such. Ill try the water bottle idea also. Im still finishing up my canopy so I need all the input on fans and stuff. thank you all.

    Snails Dying

Im using a Hydor 400 watt heater. It does have the dial. It comes on and off when needed. I have read that people use them on timers that is why I asked. As far as adding fans, do you want them venting the air or blowing on the tank? I have two large fans on my light fixture, and currently the canopy is not done so it is open.

    Snails Dying

Thanks for the input. Chiller is out of my price range right now, but something I will look into as soon as I can. Ill add some more fans and see about venting it. Would putting the heater on a timer to only come on at certain times help? I have read that people do that.

    Snails Dying

Hey, thanks for the info in this post. Going through a similar problem right now with snails dying off. Had about 5 turbos and 4 or 5 astreas die off causing a huge cyno problem. You mentioned tempature. With my halides im having a really hard time keeping my tank below 80. It seems to get up to about 82 in the day then comes back down a few degrees. Also, with the salinity I am not physically seeing much of a swing, but I do have a bout a 2 to 3 gallon evaporation rate daily that I am having to top off. ATO is coming soon I hope, but should I be topping off just a little at a time? Didnt know about the Iodine, I was dosing then just kinda got off track with it. Ill pick that back up again.
  5. Looks great. Very nice looking tank.
  6. Sale pending possibly again. But here are some crappy pics I just took. almost got him to slow down.
  7. Thats where I went wrong. Love the tangs and couldnt stop. No agression with just one other tang, added a couple more and bam. Got mean. Also, willing to do a trade or partial trade for a nice healthy Rose BTA.
  8. Up for sale again. Pm if interested.
  9. Wish you were closer. Spent the last couple hours visiting a few stores in search of a RBTA and being dissapointed.
  10. Thanks for the bumb R-3. Still got him.
  11. Oh im sure the tang police would have a field day with that one. "you cant keep a mini orca tang in a 100 gal tank"
  12. Tried pats gumbo before. Fish seemed to love it. I stick mostly to mysis and brine and a bit of pellets.
  13. Well not much done this week. I did get the top of the frame of the canopy mounted up tonight. Sorry crappy pics, but it was dark when I took them. Still trying to figure out my entire design. did get a clean up crew in, about 60 various types of snails. Some hermits and stuff. Moved over my Hippo and my Blue throats. they seem to be enjoying the room. My clown tang is out and not going in. He decided to become a complete *** this week and was harrassing everything in my other tank. Even fish 5 times his size. So hes in time out in the qt getting harrassed by my evil damsels. Hope to get the rest of the hood framed out tommorrow, as long as the wife and kids let me get some work done.
  14. My clown tang has officially decided to be a bully to my hippo. Not wanting to fight with it down the road im gonna see if anyone with a big tank would be interested in a very healthy 1.5" to 2" Clown tang. Its my understanding that Clowns have a very hard time making it past the first month or two. Bought mine from Cayes about 5 months ago. Doubled in size, very fat and healthy. Just to aggressive for my tank. I checked prices online and it seems it ranges from 50- 119 bucks(live aquaria:eek:). Basically been QT'd in a fish only tank for 5 months. So 50 bucks OBO. Gonna upset the wife, but she is not the one that takes care of the tank.(wife) Drop me a pm.
  15. This is my xmas wrasse right after I got him a while back. hes a quick little bugger.
  16. Game 1 was really dissapointing. We have season tickets and for the first time in years Im happy to say im a blazer fan. I was at saturdays game and the rose garden was a great place to be until the second quarter. The energy before the game and up until it started getting ugly was the most amazing sporting experience I have ever been to. Sadly the Blazers got bad calls and got knocked back on their heels and never recovered. Shell shocked to say the least. Hoping tonights game will be better. The wifes there now. Hope she gets a better show then I got. Go Blazers!!!!
  17. So i got a bit done this weekend. Started teh canopy. This is the frame that will mount to the ceiling. Get a better picture once I get it mounted. Skimmer is starting to work good now. I got some of my stuff moved over and got a small portion of my clean up crew. Of course when I got them, I had almost zero algae, litterally the next day I had a massive algae bloom, go figure. Im pretty sure these really like the MH's And I put my firefish pair in and my midas blenny. Blenny loves the nooks and places to roam. The second firefish decided to be non photgenic. Thats about it for now. Hopefully get the canopy framed in this week
  18. After two cases of Marine Velvet wiping out most my tank both from not properly qting fish, I have learned my lesson. If you do some research people will say qt from 2 -8 weeks. The longer the better it would seem. i do about a month now. Depending on the fish your putting in there, I would do something a bit bigger then a 10 gal. I use a 29 gal that I picked up used for 25 bucks. look around and find something used, but I would go with at least a 20 gal. Tangs and such need some room.
  19. I have a pair of them. Were in my 29 gal while it was holding all my reef stuff during my 180 set up. They never messed with any of my snails, crabs or shrimp. right now there in my 55 waiting my cycle of my 180. Have heard nothing or read nothing thats suggests they are not a good choice for a reef tank.
  20. Got home and most of the dust has settled. So here is my sort of finalized aquascape. I also picked up some new elbows to fix my bubble problem with that overflow. Also was at the LFS and finally found a good sized Kole Tang and 3 clown gobies. 2 citron and one green. So in to qt they go. Ill post a pic once they get settled.
  21. Well I think I got my rock work done. Of course I found a bag of live sand I needed to add right after so its all cloudy. Will post more pics after the dust settles. Still no cycle at all. PH came up and is sitting at about 8.3 or so. No nitrites, no ammonia.
  22. That is one of the options I was considering for the overflows. The one against the wall wont be an issue, but the other something like that will work. Thanks for the comments. Trying to plan the canopy now. Have to change it a bit for the ballasts Im thinking.
  23. 100lbs of Marco and about 60lbs of live rock out of my old tank. I still have to aquascape, but have not really had the time. that and I was getting fustrated trying to figure out a layout. So I spend about an hour a day just staring at it thinking what I should do. I want a bit of an open swimming area for the fish with some pillars. One small pillar is done, and the other that Ihad pictured is giving me fits putting it back together underwater. As far as the lights, I looked all over and couldnt beat the price on these at dr fosters and smiths. Once I got past them having them, not having them, having them, yada yada. But 650 shipped is hard to beat for 3 250 watt and antics, fans.
