  1. Well it looks like plans have changed again. This time it is for sure. My wife and I are moving back to Salt Lake City. We have goals and it will be the best place for us to reach them. I've already started the move by moving two of my tanks there so they can stabablize for the next two weeks before we move the livestock. That is why I missed the meeting. The best part about my time in Oregon has been PNWMAS. It's been great meeting some of the reefers of Oregon.
  2. My tanks have a lot of algae so my water can turn green. Carbon clears it up very nicely.
  3. Mine never upsets anything, but it don't make things look happier either. I use Oceanic.
  4. I'm glad many agree with me. For a while I was starting to feel alone with my opinion.

I call it a weed and wonderful. Part of why it is wonderful is because it's a weed. I love anything that grows well in my tank.
  6. Unfortunately I will not be able to make it. =(
  7. I would suggest a turbo type of snail because they are good at eating algae, including hair algae.
  8. Bumping up the bacteria is always good. A cup of live sand or a rock or a piece of mechanical filter from an established tank will do this and always help cycle faster. A faster cycle should have less ammonia and nitrite, so everything should have an easier time staying alive. Well cured live rock should make for faster cycle as well. I never trust well cured live rock though. Just my opinion that fresh LR might have more stuff to die and pollute the water, but it also has more life waiting to grow if you take care of it right. So I like to cure it myself. Chaeto adds bacteria, also it can help remove CO2 and nitrates from the system if provided flow and light.
  9. I have not done this on a fresh tank with fresh rock (only because I didn't know what I know now) so I'm only speculating. But let me add this,, algae could die if the ammonia/nitrite levels are too high. If that happens, a lot of other good stuff on the rock will die also. This is the reason I would run a skimmer and do water changes and add chaeto early on when cycling. The goal being to keep as much alive on the rock as possible.

I have some attached to rock that I will sell for the cost of the rock.
  12. I have seen them fight it off. Maybe not be cured, but healthy without treatment after having it. I might not be the most experienced but people with 20+ years of experience with tangs suggested garlic and UV, no other treatment. One person with tons of experience suggested garlic and a happy home is all that tangs need for a cure.
  13. It's nearly impossible to get rid of ich for the life of a tank. You have to let a tank go fallow and then quarantine everything for 4-6 weeks. Coral frags, rock, everything. This is the best way to go just hard for most to do. Most people have ich in their tank and don't have problems with ich. This is because fish can fight off ich in a healthy, stress free environment. Get a UV sterilizer and give the fish great water conditions. This worked for me.
  14. It seems I'm the only one that changes tanks more often than water. Not really though. I change tanks too much. I have made major changes in tanks about once every 3-6 months, but I really want a big tank that I can leave running for a long time. I do water changes only if I see something looking like it is not happy. I havent' done a water change for about three months and that was only because I setup new tanks and moved. Before that it was several months without water changes as well.
  15. New coral from impur: Here's a good shot of my shrimp, they are always full of eggs:
  16. I suggest that you don't react. It is probably just stress from moving that brings out the ich. Garlic can help. I've been told to use it the week of adding new fish as well as once or twice a month regularly. I don't always use it but I try to add it a few times in the first week with a new fish. Feed quality foods while providing excellent water conditions and the fish will fight it off themselves. UV can help them do this. This has worked for me.
  17. My stars were eaten a little by my emerald crabs. One reason I hate crabs. This happened over 6 months ago and they are healing, but one is still missing a leg. Here they are:
  18. I am really happy with how this tank is going. I know it has a lot to grow before it will be full, but I'm really happy so far. I'm so glad I didn't sell stuff that I was recently trying to sell, because I've used some here. I have the job in Alaska in May, and if I go, I hope this all makes it. But I'm starting to wish even more that I didn't have to go, that I could find another job. One of the biggest reasons is so that I can make sure this grows out the way I want it to and to insure that I can give this my best care.
  19. I think I was a little rough with the chalice, getting it to stay in place and all. I think it is already showing signs of recovery. I'll post more pics in a few weeks. It might be the camera as well.
  20. It is a little gem. I really like it. It is a tiny frag that I hope grows well. I guess it is purple with green mouths. Snowpunk is where I got my new corals. I traded fish and corals for them. Thanks snowpunk.
  21. I don't know if these are rare, but I like the look and they are my new montiporas.
  22. I don't know what it's called. It's my first.
  23. I would like to see pictures. I would like to see pictures of what anyone has under their rockwork growing. Please add them to this thread.
