  1. I added my Loc after seeing XrayGuy add his.
  2. When my wife and I travel to the SF area we fly into Oakland and our first stop is In N Out. Its usually our last stop before we take the rental car back too. I love double doubles although I'm kinda in the middle on the fries. Only better burger I have ever had is from "Squeeze In" in Sacramento and some place from Diners Drive-ins and Dives that I went to in Ocean Beach (San Diego area). I haven't been to 5 guys yet, but will try to make a point of it to do a comparison:)
  3. I have a coral that volunteered itself out of a zoa frag. I first noticed some tiny feeders sticking up out of the top of the piece of rock and was considering blasting it assuming it was an apatasia. I ended up letting it go and it got big enough to tell that it was not. Now I'm thinking its a favia. There are 3 polyps now and it seems to me that the flesh is growing down and covering the rock as the polyps enlarge rather than growing up on a skeleton. The lowest 2 polyps are very near a couple zoa polyps and I'm not sure if I should try to "rescue" them with a scalpel and transfer them to a frag plug or if the favia will grow up and not end up overgrowing them. I wish I could get a good picture to show, but my lil cannon powershot refuses to do anything but focus on the glass.
  4. UV Sterilizers kill water borne parasites (well, thats what you want them to kill...they actually kill anything living) using UV light. The algae turf scrubbers (ATS) are a setup to grow algae for the purposes of removing nitrates and phosphates from your water.
  5. Really nice pics! Thanks for sharing. IIRC Calfo has a greenhouse that he used to (or possibly still does) grow most of his corals in. He lives near Pittsburg and even in the winter growth is better under natural sunlight than anything else. I guess 6 to 8 hours of the real thing blows away 12 hrs of MH. I recall that RC thread too...was a pretty sweet tank, something like 8 feet wide with 3 solar tubes over it. One upside of natural lighting is you can buy cheaper crappy colored corals since most stuff will be pretty brown anyway:p
  6. Seems to me the RO/DI and SW barrels at Upscales are significantly bigger than 55g. Prolly in the 100+ range, but thats just from eyeballing them. Maybe check with Travis and see what they are for reals?
  7. I stopped playing a long time ago, but if you ever want a 70 tauren hunter on a PvP server (skull crusher) let me know. Has his epic flyer too (the 5k gold one...no idea what is out there now:p)
  8. Did doesn't look like briopsis to me. I've got a bit of both in my tank ATM and from the picture I would say its hair algae.
  9. Sorry about all the bad news. GL with the sale...I'm sure someone will see the amazing deal and want to snatch it up.
  10. Awesome video! Thanks for sharing.
  11. Small detail to add to the missing location issue...the last post I made the location was there, then i refreshed the screen and it went away.
  12. Well noise would certainly be a problem. I have a MJ900 to power it and with a 29g tank and the ATS lit on one side the screen would only be 6 inches by 10 inches. I hope that will be fairly quiet. In terms of the noise issue can you tell me a little more about your attempt at this?
  13. 2 used Perelli Winter 240 Snowsport tires Tire size is 245/45 R17. They were on the FRONT end of a 2005 GTO (RWD) for about 15k miles. These are not studded tires, just tread designed for winter driving. They were about $180 new (each) and I would like to get about $50 for the pair. Just tires, no rims.
  14. Bought this for a friend a couple years ago and just came across it recently. IIRC they are 30 bucks in the store. I'd like to get 25 for it. I have a paypal account and will email the number off the back of the card to you. Or could possibly meet up at a LFS and just trade box for cash. Would consider trades involving an overflow or return pump for a 29g tank.
  15. I've been reading through the algae scrubbers forum for hours this morning and I think I am absolutely going to give one of these a shot. I'm not really having algae growth problems, but I have my feeding so low that I am getting minimal growth out of my corals too. I got spare parts to make the scrubber, but I don't have a sump installed. Somehow i gotta scrape up a hundred bucks or so for an overflow and return pump....maybe my future GFO savings will just fall out of the sky?!?
  16. How about anything with suction cups!
  17. I got a very plain green/brown acan growing out of a zoa frag. Nothing special, but it does help me feel better about the frag now that most of the zoa colony has died off:p
  18. No urchins of any kind in the tank (that I know of).
  19. The only fish that would be in question is a pygmy cherub angel. The acan and angel have been in the tank together for over a year now. The angel "goes to bed" at night and I'm pretty confident the assault is happening overnight. I moved the frag to another spot with similar lighting and possibly a little better flow. Hopefully that does the trick.
  20. My feeling is that the zoa issue is unrelated, but i cant rule that out so I was sure to mention it. There are other frags with polyps an inch away that were totally unaffected and there has been no sign of an issue since i moved the frag in question. As for the acans, I cant imagine they are edible, but the evidence in the morning is pretty compelling. It literally looks like a pizza with a slice taken out. The skeleton is completely bare and bright white. If it was water param/flow/etc wouldn't there be multiple polyps affected? There have been 2 incidences of this now and its just a chuck out of one polyp on an 8-10 polyp frag. First incident was on one polyp and the second is on its nearest neighbor. Should I move the frag and continue watching it? There is nothing near enough to sting the colony so i would rule that out. Sure wish I could have a red light with a security camera for the tank:p I had sundial snails in my tank over a year ago. Unfortunately it was during a time that I didnt pay much attention to the tank and the population exploded to over 50 snails. I lost 90% of my zoas that had been growing like weeds previously.
  21. Twice now something has munched about 1/4 of a dime sized acan polyp during the night. The frag has been in the tank for a couple years and this has only recently started. The only thing I've added to the tank lately is some CUC members (snails and hermits) to replace MIA/empty shells. The first time the acan got munched there was a new snail in very close proximity. I'm terrible with names, but its a common snail variety with a pyramid shaped shell (not a turbo grazer or the ones that burrow in substrate). There are other types of snails and hermits, all typical stuff, in the tank too. Another possible culprit is a relatively fast moving, nocturnal, mantled, speckled white snail. It has been in the tank a long time, but since it is only out at night and the acan has been snacked on twice now at night it has me suspicious. Maybe he took a little taste one night and now has a favorite midnight snack? A zoa frag with about 15 polyps had a few polyps looking like they were melting down from the top down. Other polyps were unaffected on the same frag. It got progressively worse over the course of a few nights until i moved it to a frag rack. Since then its stabilized and is actually recovering a bit. Not sure if this is related or not, but the timing coincides. Ideas?
  22. how long is it likely to take? i normally only feed the fish a few times a week and also do a little cyclopeeze for the corals after lights out. i will certainly cut out feeding corals, but i probably already have my fish near starving as it is:(
  23. Don't think I am into the sea hare idea. What is your idea of "slowly" (ppm per day or week increases)? Guess I'll need to get a test kit to do this right...I have no idea how much my Mg levels change between water changes. Also, there are liquid and solid forms of Mg...I'm leaning towards liquid because its so much easier to measure accurately. BTW is 10-15% per week a pretty ideal WC schedule?
