  1. From what i have heard the growth is good, but the colors are pretty brown/dull. Algae growth would be worse than usual too.
  2. IIRC that seller is a local wholesaler. Not making a judgment myself, but others expressed disagreement with these action. Seems he wholesales stuff but then funnels off the best stuff to ebay.
  3. rubber bands are tricky to get just the right pressure. they usually end up cutting through and setting them frags free. i like to take a shallow container w/ very small bits of rubble or crushed coral and place a netting material over the top. you can do the same thing with a small piece of LR too. frags should attach in just a couple days.
  4. couldn't you flip the top over and have a clean surface to work with? or maybe thats what you were already thinking...
  5. Rut-roh! Just checked my salinity for the first time in far too long and it was 1.020. Sounds pretty low to me. I checked the SW I got from my LFS and it measured out at 1.020 also, so I guess it could just be that my Sp. Grav instrument is out of whack. Next time I pick up water I will have them test it and then check against mine when i get home. I see peeps talking about 1.024-1.025 in SPS tanks...does that go for softies as well?
  6. Good advise for everyone really. Some folks dont know that there are actually different garden hoses. Please don't let your kids or yourself drink out of hoses that aren't specifically labeled as safe for drinking. God only knows what could be in there otherwise.
  7. Do you feed during light hours or after lights out?
  8. When i first setup my tank my zoas and pallys were growing like weeds. There was about a year of semi-neglect, but now I am on top of things again and have been for several months. I've gotten to 10-15% WCs every 10/11 days, keeping alk dialed in at 8/9 pretty constantly and been really good about topping off daily. Nitrates always test at zero too. My mushrooms, Kenya trees and toadstools are showing consistent growth, but the zoas never came around. The only additives I have every used are calcium and super dKh. Should I be adding iodine and strontium for a softies dominated tank? Trace elements? Something else? I'm not looking for rampant growth, but a new polyp here and there would be nice to see:)
  9. Take 181st exit off of 84 and head into town. The store is on the right at the corner of 181st and Burnside. Sorry dont know the hours...its been a long time since Ive been out there.
  10. omg i cant believe how much brighter the LEDs are. I'm headed down to SD next summer and I will certainly be stopping by Legoland. Been down there many other times and it somehow always ends up falling off the list of things to do.
  11. there's some tyree chalice frag at 1 dollar starting bid with only an hour left. Risk might be worth the reward there:p
  12. +1 for Pine State Biscuits. One of the best breakfasts I have ever had. The basic biscuits and gravy is amazing, but they also have fancier stuff too. In my neighborhood we have THE "Original Pancake House". Its a nationwide chain, but the one on SW Barbur (near Burlingame area/Multnomah Village) is where it all began. All things pancake there are great and I really like the bacon too.
  13. I've cut them in half in place with a scalpel, scrapped them off a rock then cut them in quarters with scissors and ripped them in pieces (just like you did here). Every time recovery was just fine. If it was fat and happy before shredding it, then it will heal up and now you have an extra ric. Nice work:)
  14. I usually keep a bucket of used SW after my WCs and have frag plugs or extra scraps of rock in it. Is there any problem with this method? Are these rocks thick enough to drill a hole in for golf tee frag plugs?
  15. Great photo of it considering that the only eye that is actually rainbow is the one in the middle. Would really suck to shell out all that cash and not have the other eyes turn out with similar coloration as they expand. So is WM = watermelon and refers to the green coloration at the edges?
  16. I have bubble algae in my tank too, but I've always had trouble keeping emerald crabs alive. I think in the last 2.5yrs I have bought 6 or 7 of them. I know they can be reclusive and hard to find, but it has now been months since Ive seen the last one. Also my bubble is increasing. I also lost 3 cleaner shrimp in about 2 months time after having my first one about a year and then gave up on them. Is there something I am missing here? Sorry for a mini-hijack, but I figure its on topic enough not to bother starting another one...
  17. Any of the new Maxi owners have a watchman goby? Ive been really wanting to get one of these nems, but wont do it if my little bottom dweller is going to get munched.
  18. Flatworm exit worked great for me although I think i used double the recommended dose. Followed it up with a yellow wrasse just to be sure they would never come back.
  19. Gotta give a +1 for Killer Burger. Great burger with lots of options. Humdinger on SW Barbur near Multnomah Ave is awesome too...I love me some bacon, but I usually have to pick some off of a Humdinger burger there is that much on it! I made it to 5guys recently and I will definitely go again. I would skip the fries though...they were good, but I got grit a few times in mine and that's pretty much a deal breaker:( To stay strictly on topic: in a head to head double cheese burger comparison I would go with In N Out.
  20. 23 to 46W CF light in a clip on reflector from Home Depot would be a pretty cheap option. One problem might be that the "soft" or "warm" (2700K-3300K iirc) spectrum is pretty good at growing algae.
  21. I've never seen these before, but I really like them. Can someone post a pic of the orange variety (or any other colors that are around). Whats a more formal name? I'd like to read up on care for them a lil bit.
