  1. Thanks Premium Aquarium! Garrett, thanks for the awesome meeting and we love the new corals. Those are some very unique HW PEs:)
  2. Yes you must be a known shipper. You should check out USPS for shipping overnight. Check their online site to see if you can get the fish from Texas to your home overnight. If you can it will be at least half the cost of Fedex and UPS.
  3. Hello, Thank you for the kind words. At this point in time I would like not to sell locally so we can support local shops and sponsors. I know several shops in Oregon and Washington who have these zoas and other corals I sell. If you want to know who has them please PM me.
  4. Check to make sure that it is not infected with boring fungus. To find out look along its shell for tiny pin holes, usually near the base. I cannot remember the treatment, maybe someone else will. A weak hinge does not always mean the clam is infected but most of the time they are. Also check to make sure your alkalinity is high enough, clams in a tank with chronic exposure to low alkalinity can also develop a weak hinge.
  5. Yeah, Jason has a lot of great rics. Some of the best around.
  6. My opinion would be that the rics in the photo above are touched up a bit. You can get nicely colored R. floridas but those are a little to intense.
  7. Hey Mike, Have you added carbon to your tank recently?
  8. JasonH, who designed the algae, I have never heard of this story. Do you have a link or copy of a research article proving this; I would love to see it. Last I heard the invasive algae species you are probably referring to was accidentally dumped into the Mediterranean via waste water affluent from a public aquarium. I have never heard of it being engineered by man. As far as global warming, I think you are missing the point. We as you, me, and others of the human race have raised the Earth's temperature faster then it would normally be when compared to ecological time. It is the ecological time scale that corals have adapted to not the short time scale us humans have begun raising the planets temperature. Also now days it is almost impossible to falsify data to acquire additional grant money. All publicly funded grant proposals are highly scrutinized and peer reviewed before any funding is issued. I am proud to say I believe in science without it most of us would not be alive today enjoying this wonderful hobby.
  9. IMO, the aqua c skimmers are some of the best skimmers on the market. You really can't go wrong with them. They run circles around any recirc skimmer and/or needle wheel skimmers. Get one, you won't be sorry.
  10. I wanted to thank Mike W. again for allowing me to come to his home and show everyone my propagated rics. Also I would like to thank everyone who bought rics. The purchase money is greatly appreciated as it goes back into paying for operating expenses so I can keep offering propagated rics. I would also like to thank PNWMAS. I also will forward a check to PNWMAS containing 5 dollars for every ric sold. Finally it was nice to meet everyone who attended the meeting; it was very nice meeting other hobbyists with as much or more devotion to the hobby as I have. thanks again Chris
  11. The ric prices are going to be 20 per polyp for pinks, oranges, and multicolored and 15 for all others. Mike and I are also going to donate 5 dollars to the club for every ric sold. I have gotten many requests to hold rics for members but unfortunately I won't be able to as I would like to give everyone attending the meeting a nice selection of rics to choose from.
  12. As Mike mentioned here is a link to some of the propagated rics I have ready for sale. There are 5 pages of pics. These are all adapted to 250w 20k halides. They have been adapted over from sunlight at about 14 inches of water depth and 24 inches from the metal halide fixtures. Thanks for looking, see everyone at the meeting. http://s197.photobucket.com/albums/aa243/teena546/?start=0 Chris
  13. both 250 metal halid and work horse 7 ballasts are pending sale. I have reduce the price on the ARO VHO electronic ballasts to 15 a piece.
  14. I am looking for different colors of PE palys. Please PM me with what you have and price.
  15. I have 2 250w ARO electronic ballasts for sale at 50 each. They both work great and have 4 months of use. I also have 2 ARO electronic VHO ballasts for 20 each. They can run two bulbs each up to 220 watts total. They too have had about 4 months of use and work great. I also have a work horse electronic VHO ballasts for sale at 20.00. It has 2 months of use and can run two bulbs up to 220 watts total. Please PM me if you have questions or need pics of the ballasts.
  16. Hello, I have two protein skimmers I am selling. They are both in great shape and have had less then 3 months of use. I no longer need them since they are to small for my 1200 gallon propagation system. One is a Pacific Coast Imports RPS 4000 recalculating skimmer for 180.00 and the other is a Aqua Euro USA 265 recalculating skimmer for 120. If you have questions or would like to see pics of the skimmers please PM me.
  17. Looking for frags or colonies of Montipora capricornis. Please PM me if you have any for sale. Let me know what color they are and what the price is.
  18. This is just a short account of my experiences with Petco and if any of it is useful for what you are trying to accomplish please contact me before using it. My education is in fish health and I was part of a team of researchers that worked closely with 2 Petco stores for about 6 months. Our goal was to try and provide them with documented evidence of what was killing every order of saltwater fish they received and in return we were given permission to run our own molecular tests on the fish for our research. What follows is not intended to be a slam on Petco. They were kind enough to allow us to use the fish for our research. In short, management including at the store level and corporate level, do know of the problem but have done little to correct it. They rely heavily on the advice of a Petco veterinarian who knows nothing about fish health to come up with solutions to fix the problem. They also will not, due to potential worker health problems, use any sort of chemical to treat disease outbreaks. The other problem Petco faces is the supplier of their fish. The supplier(s) treats Petco as the dumping grounds for their diseased fish, so in a sense the problem starts at the supplier and then is magnified by Petco's lack of proper husbandry. In Petco's defense, many of the diseased fish (freshwater mostly) they receive would never recover even in one of our tanks as they are infected with incurable diseases. Again this is just my experience with Petco, please take what you can out of it. Finally in my personal opinion Petco will not change their policies unless pressure comes from a legislative entity. Their are plenty of Petco stores who never make profit off their saltwater fish but continue to carry them even thou a good majority die before being sold. As one manager told me "its not the profit on the wet products they are so worried about its the profit on the dry products". Go figure. I know they have a business to run but we all know how valuable (I’m not talking monetary value) these fish and invertebrates are, it’s a shame they do not.
  19. Everyone, thanks for the info. Its really nice this site allows for open discussion. I would like to add I do understand what aquaculture is but with some of the photos I have seen of CFM corals, there is clearly decades of skeletal growth attached to each coral. Even if one were to argue the coral contained some new polyps not grown in the ocean dose it truly fit the definition of aquacultured. Not trying to offend any vendors that participated in the show just trying to get fellow hobbyist to think about what should be considered aquacultured.
  20. I have a question for everyone and I know this may start a heated debate. When does someone call a coral aquacultured? The reason I ask is that I have seen a few pics of corals bought at the CFM that are clearly just hacked off larger colonies that originated from the wild. I know everyone is just trying to make a living but to go and sell corals at a CFM that are clearly not aquacultured is kind of deceiving. I am very surprised Steve Tyree did not stop the sell of these corals. If I am way out of line, please pull this thread. I apologize up front to any I offend; I am just trying to get a meaningful discussion going on the definition of what is an aquacultured coral.
  21. Hi everyone, I just thought I would pass this on. I heard that a few of the venders will have wireless laptops and will accept payment using paypal. I thought this might be helpful.
  22. Hey stylaster, those frags look great, where did you get the Oregon tort, pink mili, and blue acro from?(laugh) By the way the frags I got from you look great, thanks again. I will have to post pics of them soon. Chris
