  1. So is that a yes for trying to get into Lane Community College? I will ask on Thursday and see if we can have a room. It is dependent on faculty availability, and the instructor that I know would do it, Carrie Newell, some may know her from her Oregon Residential Whale Work, and Work at Hatfield Marine Science Center, may not be able to come. Her daughter just gave birth to a baby after only 6 months of pregnancy, and she is busy now, but someone else may do it, or she may do it anyway. What is covered in this meeting? Is there any chance that someone could give a lecture, and we could invite faculty and students to the meeting? I know Lane loves having after hours lectures and this would be great to share expertise.
  2. I've got a Haro X7 with Hayes 9 brakes and a 200mm Marzocchi 888RC on the front. The bike is set up how i want it, so this year i think i will work on powder coating the rims and fork custom colors to make it my own.
  3. I could see if we could do it at Lane Community College. It would be neat to have it there and check out their tanks. They have several tropical tanks and some cold water tanks for local species. I help in the wet room, so I might be able to get a room at the college. It is in Eugene, OR.
  4. good. i am glad that someone a little closer was able to take care of JSW. i was more than willing to do it, just a long way away. so looking forward to seeing the pics when its done. maybe some close ups too, since i am a fabricator, and the way the weld looks is just as important as the overall, for us metal guys. lol.
  5. spots are still there. i am actually thinking that it may be a response to iodine. i know iodine isnt needed, but i had some so i dosed anyway. a few people said this happened to them. so i will skip iodine for a month and if it goes away great. i may dose 1 more time with iodine just for experimentation.
  6. still have the sumps for sale? wanna update the pics for each of them? glass? acrylic?
  7. actually now that i think about it i will just wait until i can get the in sump skimmer. i think that an in sump skimmer will out perform this one, and i already have a HOT skimmer.
  8. could i arrange to come look at what you have on say...Thursday afternoon? Thank you, curtis.
  9. i am a professional fabricator and millwright and would be willing to build you a stand. you would have to pay for materials and i would give you a good deal on labor. currently i dont work in a fab shop, but in a mill, so have limits such as i cant really do a lot of forming, such as bending of sheet metal. email me a drawing of what you want, and we can go from there.
  10. i have one in a tank with hermits, emeralds, and lots of other inverts. the crab does fine in the tank and i would highly doubt that it would kill other inverts. i would however, go with a female. when you are in the store looking at them have the LFS guy sex them. it is just like dungeness crab. flip it over and if the bottom of the carapace has a narrow plate then it is male, wide and rounded is a female. the females stay much much smaller.
  11. interested in the protein skimmer and the reactors. can you tell me more about them. what do i need to buy afterwards to get these working?
  12. that is exactly what i think. i am trying to change this, and hopefully people can realize that there is a difference. i just was frustrated because someone on reef central told me that my rock wouldnt cycle, and i chose to cycle it anyway, and guess what major cycle, it would have crashed my tank. the problem is that this person said he would still give the same advise knowing what my experience was. i am just trying to clear up fuzzy areas in people's heads in order to keep this from happening to someone else.
  13. Here is a forum topic that I started on Reef Central to discuss and debate the differences in these rocks. My experience that sparked this is that I had a bunch of rock that was once live and sat in a friend's garage. I was told by several people on Reef Central that it was just regular base rock, put it in. I am glad I didn't listen. The rock cycled hard, and would have crashed my tank. I am posting this forum in order to update old terminology and differentiate base rock from dead rock. The rock that was once live = Dead Rock, when re-hydrated will start to decompose the dried out "live stuff" and cause a cycle. I just dont want people to be confused and cause major problems with their tanks. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1379716 Any input would be greatly appreciated.
  14. i can agree with that. algae is a good name for you, you're needed in society, but often are a pain in the butt. you are more of a hair algae than a zooxanthellae or zoochlorellae. thanks for the comments, just got some more riccordias. now i have 2 shrooms and 3 different color ric's. cant wait to show it to you in person.
  15. I am looking for an overflow box that is at least 300gph, which i think they all pretty much are. Please reply with what you have and how much you want for it. Thank you, Curtis.
  16. I am looking for an overflow box for my 75 gallon tank. I am thinking that anything over 300 gph would be fine. I have found some online for around $40, but was hoping that someone had one that was just sitting around and could give me a deal on. I am also willing to do work in trade for the overflow. Please reply with what you have and how much you want for it. Thank you, Curtis.
  17. looks good! i am in the same position, so dont take this wrong, but that tang will probably outgrow your tank. i have a tomini tang and regal tang in a 75 gallon tank, and i know that tangs get bigger and like to swim, but you probably have time before that happens. sweet looking clowns. love the pic with the two of them
  18. looks good. i really like the amount of "flowing" corals. i am sure the tank is really alive in person. i like it. you have nice colors too. i might look into some cool bright riccordias, that would help with adding some texture and color to your tank.
  19. that is a thought. i have seen it brush up against corals. thanks. i figure if the fish is healthy and happy then i wont worry too much.
  20. no troubles with the flame nipping corals. i think that one of the biggest tricks is to keep it fed well. i feed 2x daily about 15 minutes apart in the morning. all of my fish are healthy, not fat, and not thin. i know that i must keep an eye on that fish, but hopefully we can have a good relationship and keep the fish for a long time. anyone who wants to can come view my tanks. just let me know with a pm and we can set up a time. i am a busy student who also does millwright work full time, so schedule is limited, but would love to show my stuff off.
