  1. I have for sale 150 to 200 pounds of live rock. Several large show pieces, $2.00 per pound. Two (2) 5 gallon buckets of live rock sump rubble, and two(2) 5 gallon buckets of live sand, $10 per bucket for sand. If interested call me @ 503-474-7254. Items are located in McMinnville, about 35 miles southwest of Portland.
  2. oops Have been a little slack in my water testing, tested and had Alk of 7. Been buffering slowly since yesterday, am up to about 9 going for 10 or 11, corals slowly coming out of it. Lost at least 15 mini brittle stars and all of the turbo snails. Nassarius snails and trocus seem to be hanging on.Kenya trees look like they were hit with a flame thrower, but are starting to straighten up. Long tentacle leather looks like it has a broken neck but tentacles are slightly out so it may make it.
  3. zoanthids I have done further reading and maybe the problem is allelopathy. Will do as dsoz suggests and move the rocks around and alter the flow. Experiment time. Thanks for the input. Gary.
  4. I have 5 or 6 zoanthid frags in a tank now for a week or two, and now one of them is closed up. Do these corals do this from time to time or do I have a problem?
  5. Until now I have had FOWLER tanks but have now increased my lighting a bit and would like to have a few corals, zoos and palys, so I have looked around the net a bit and discovered prices in the range of $10, $20, $30 per polyp. When you add from $35 to $52 shipping you get what I consider a price that takes this hobby from expensive to outrageous. It may be that I'm a bit out of touch, or maybe I've entered my old fart years where I think everything is just too expensive. I would like to trade corals but can't do that until I have something to trade, so I have to buy my way in. Bought my first frag from a LFS on Sunday for $15.00 and thought that was reasonable. I would like to know what you think, am I all wet thinking that corals are a bit overpriced, and are there people I can buy small frags from to get a start? Gary.
  6. zoanthid lighting I have power compact lighting. 260 watts on a 55 gallon tank.
  7. Up until now I've had only FOWLR tanks but would would like to try Zoanthid corals because of the great colors. I understand they can be kept under moderate lighting, whatever that is. So how much light does it take? Do they have to be handled with gloves? Is there people here that have frags to sell? Thanks for your input. Gary.
  8. Anyone coming to the meeting tomorrow that has calibration fluid? I never have been sure that my meter is correct. Calibrated it with r/o water, distilled water but keep hearing differing opinions. Maybe a few people could bring their meters and we could compare readings on our host's tank.Gary.
  9. I only have compact fluorescent lighting so the only coral I've been successful growing are Kenya trees. I have 10 that are all attached to coral rubble and I will bring them to the meeting this Sunday. If you have a low light coral frag to trade OK, if not that's OK too. These just need to go to another tank, mine is a little crowded. Gary.
  10. Anyone out there have any experience with Odyssea lighting fixtures? I'm sure they are made in china, like most of the aquarium stuff, but their prices seem almost too good to be true. Thanks for your response.
  11. Has anyone out there ever kept a cubicus boxfish? Are all the horror stories about poisoning the system really true? How quickly do the grow? Thanks. Gary.
  12. If you have a 170 gallon system, what size UV sterilizer do you need? What should the flow rate be
  13. Sally lightfoot crab, the red one, and the nimble spray crab, brownish with yellow leg bands, also called sally lightfoot, does anyone keep these?,and have you had a problem with them? I read that when they become larger they will prey on fish and other inverts. While all crabs are opportunistic feeders, are these crabs among the problem crabs?, and at what size do they become a problem ?. Thanks. Gary.
  14. Anyone out there have any experience with Oceanpure salt mix and Pacific Coast salt mix?. Is their any difference in their specifications? One is considerably cheaper than the other, and very considerably cheaper than some of the other major brands. Your input is appreciated. Thanks. Gary.
  15. Bucket O lights I got 14 working fixtures and 16 working tubes out of that bucket. Sweet deal, thanks .Gary
