    Ozone users...

I run my ozone thru my skimmer then the water exits and pours into a tray with a bag of carbon, the water trickles down thru the bottom into the sump. I have a very slight smell at the vent pipe from the skimmer when the ozone is running. It is my understanding that the ozone generators avaiable for the "hobby" use do not produce enough to be harmful to humans, make sure you have the ozone set to the correct dose for the size of your tank. there is good info on Reef Central on this subject and also on how to make a filter for the smell with carbon over the vent
  3. Always a pleasure Ryan, looking forward to watching your tank progress over the next few months. let me know when you're ready for some corals
  4. Good call dsoz, I put a small frag of hydnophora in its path and it stopped it big time!!. now I can move the frag around it and keep it contained where I want it Thanks!
  5. It sounds like the smaller ones might do better, not as much of the body to go thru. Also the species and age, my young (smaller) green bubble tips are pretty compact but the older ones have a larger base and even when removed from the tank can't shrink up
  6. I have plenty to keep me busy i dont want to add anymore, however it is a sign of a very healthly tank! My purple anenome doesnt look very good, still laying in the same place we'll see what happens. If the hermits start lining up I'll have to take it out!
  7. JM looks like you're due for a little scrapein!
  8. I agree, I've tried to adjust my WB with no luck I shot some photos with it on auto and they came out alot better. I'll have to look into the flash, pics look real good cant wait to see more
  9. Andy what do you set your WB at when taking photos of tanks.
  10. I won one of the purple anenomes (name?) I placed it down out of the current ,its looks fine its rolled so the cut side is down over a rock looking at it you cant tell it was cut. we'll see how it goes!
  11. Thanks to Dennis for having us at his home for the demo(clap) and the meeting, I'll keep you posted on how the anenome is doing:D Steve
  12. I've got quite alot I can bring, my fuge/grow tank is getting full of frags
  13. I have 1/2" and I use them they work fine
  14. This is the kind that spreads and devides no stalk, I guess I'll keep scraping
  15. I'll try that I have several Hydnophora starts, I cant move the rock. If anyone wants some hydno I have some nice pieces
  16. I guess I should title it "Containing" since we have no control over a healthy spreading coral,Anyway I have never had any luck with Xenia, in the past the colonies would multiply slowly then eventually die off. I've tried species from different LFS with no luck, After not having it for a few years and changes in my tank I bought some of the Pink Xenia that spreads (not the stalks) and it took off. I have tried to scrape it off the rock and reattach but I just end up with a mess, I did place some plugs to have it grow on but its going on and around them at a very fast rate. Unfortunetly i did not put it on a rock I can remove. What are some methods to keep it under control in its own area?

    CO2 Use

One of these days I'll have to write it down, must be a least 6 months
  19. I have real good luck with the trades I've done in the last months with club members, also all of the new frags I've bought are doing well. I'm going to have to go with a 90% though because when I returned from vacation the plug I was given with some purple polyps was bare and the polyps are MIA
  20. I used to get alot of algae growth on my powerheads and the cords, I believe it because its out of the main flow or it likes that plastic, I also get it on my other returns. your powerheads are also on the backwall and high which keeps them out of main light which algae also likes. I have recently added a refugium with macroalgae and it is completely gone except for a very fine on the returns (which is normal). All I can suggest is what I used to do is keep extra maxi's for water changes, cleaning, etc and instead of trying to remove and clean just replace with a clean one and use the covered one out of the tank for a couple of months while it completely dies off. if you try just to clean and replace one it will grow back really fast
  21. Here's my flowerpot, hasn't been comming out as much lately
  22. Definetely will do....I'm in Hawaii right now will be back around the 8th I'll check back then Thanks Steve
  23. Awsome setup wish my tank was close to the garage I'd be doing the same. what do you do with all the frags??. like to come see it sometime, I could bring some pieces if your into trading
