  1. While cruising for dosing info I came across this BRS video that gives a good explanation of the relationship between Alk and CA for newbies. It is good for people that are new or are visually oriented (ie: can't read). I believe that Kendra had a crush on the nerdiness of this guy! But truthfully I think the presence of a real woman would send this guy running for the comfort of his Millennium Falcon models.(scary) Still, it is pretty good! http://www.youtube.com/user/BulkReefSupplyCom#p/u/11/mI52IyBtjp0
  2. I was talking bout the 7 1/4 Chloride to 3/4 cup sulfate by Farley and BRS. Actually I was just getting lazy. Here is a link. Just have to read it, I guess! http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-02/rhf/index.php
  3. Any one know the reason for the low ratio of Mag Sulfate to Mag Chloride suggested when using Kalk or a CA reactor?
  4. Thanks Alessandro! Very cool!

    Chaeto Sump Barrier?

Thanks! I just got through with a big BRS order. Time to go to JoAnne's and play "the totally secure male".

    Chaeto Sump Barrier?

Thanks! I really went through a mental exercise trying to figure out it's possible applications. Needlepoint just didn't come up! Should come in a couple of different mesh sizes too!
  7. How easy is the La Motte to read? I just ordered one. I have a La Motte Nitrate tester and really like it btw.
  8. The acans are really nice. Much better than the pics. And a steal!
  9. Oh, hell I'll take the ring of fire too!!!
  10. I tried to reference the 6 month statement and couldn't find it. I may have been subject to He said/She said syndrome (which I dislike a lot). If I remember right it was that the electrode may sit on a shelf at the distributor for 6 months and at the retailer for 6 months thereby reducing the useful life. Randy Holmes and Milwaukee say that the useful life is 18-24 months. There have been people that have got 5 years out of a probe. I have had two go out on me. One at 9 months (Milwaukee) and the other at 1 year (Neptune standard). When they go out they will either jump all over the scale or be very slow to respond. The last one I bought was, effectively, $21 at BRS. I have ordered PH probes from China for about the same. BRS does test theirs before shipping. Back to the Alk/Phosphate thread!

    Chaeto Sump Barrier?

This looks perfect! Anyone know where to get it online? Sent from my VM670 using Tapatalk
  12. Hey Mike. Can you post your xls chart as an attachment in this thread? BTW I have heard that alk titration kits have a limited shelf life (and ph meters are good for 6 months). The Elos kit is a pita in indoor flourescent lighting. Sent from my VM670 using Tapatalk

  14. Very Nice! Love the wrap-around look! The slide show is cool! Will we be seeing you guys at Douglas' meeting?
  15. What are you guys feeding your BTA's? My false perculas refuse to host in the BTA and the mini-maxi's.

    Chaeto Sump Barrier?

How is that used, Mick? Think I misread what you were using (scary) (laugh). This may be a good idea. Maybe if I used eggcrate and covered it in door screen with channels in the tank to secure it ?
  17. Was wondering if anyone had a good idea to isolate chaeto/algae in a 40B from getting into my main system? Sent from my VM670 using Tapatalk
  18. Just got an order in from BRS Group Buy (thanks Beth(clap)(clap)) and was very pleasantly surprised to find that most of the additives were labeled pharma grade. It was my first time ordering additives since I had a large stockpile of material. I remember looking for info on Kalkwasser purity and how disappointed I was that a lot of major labels did not list the purity grade. Went through hassels and finally ordered 100 lbs of food grade Kalkwasser in the past. The Calc chloride, Mag Chloride, Mag Sulfate, were all pharma grade at BRS!
  19. I just changed over from a single handheld TDS meter to a dual. I hooked it up after particulate, carbons, and RO. Going in and out of DI canisters. When I first turned it on it it registered 003 and after DI 000. After a minute it registered 000 on both sides of the DI! My particulate filer is new but the other filters, including the RO membrane is is over 1 1/2 years old. I usually run about 20 gallons of water per week. Our water in Eugene, out of the tap is typically 40-50ppm. Can an RO that is this old be that clean or is it that the meter is off? I read on the instructions that it is calibrated at the factory for 350ppm. Should I consider re-calibration? I can re-calibrate this model. I have not heard of others having this problem.
  20. Trade for 2K tons of cement. Need this gone ASAP.
  21. Acme Nuclear reactor for sale. 2nd owner. Previously owned by The Roadrunner. See at Fukushima Daiichi.
  22. Here is a 5.5 quake/aquarium video of Christchurch NZ. Remember that the rating system for quakes is geometirc and that a 5.5 is very small compared to an 8-9.
  23. Tangs, in nature, are constantly cruising for food. To be off the diet of nori is worrisome. I would try a wide variety of foods to try and spark an interest but also concentrate on nori based food. Good luck! Red Sea Tangs are wonderful fish!
