  1. I've got about a 1inx1inx1in frag of the superman that i would gladly trade for the war coral.
  2. Sounds like this stuff is pretty evil. I'll have to get some to have on hand. Almost makes me wish I had a couple just so I could kill them(plotting)
  3. What do you use to dip with?? I occasionally dip corals from untrusted sources using a basic iodine dip, but i get the majority of my corals from upscales and I know he has already dipped and checked for bugs long before I buy it and it goes into my tank, one of the reasons I really like to go there. I guess if I had a bad experience I would be more cautious and I probably should be anyways. I guess my main question would be how many dips, what kind of dip, and how long of a quarentine is going to guarntee a pest free coral. I just really like to hear what other people do and why.
  4. I don't mean to fight I just think that it is very important that people explain the reasoning and purpose behind what they do. Its imprtant to understand why we do what we do in this hobby. I just find it a little upsetting when people give adivce or suggestions without posting why they do what they do. All part of the learning process. To many people recommend doing something just because thats what someone else told them to do. If you post a reason for why you are doing what your doing then eveyone can learn from it rather than another post that will only cause more confusion. For example why would you drip acclimate a fish for 10 to 12 plus hours? Instead why not acclimate until the ph and salanity match that of your tank, since this is the purpose of acclimation. IME it has never taken more than four hours for water parameters to match up, even fish that are directly transhipped. Reading on the internet is great lots of different opinions lots of different ways to do things. Some work for some people and some don't work for others, but if you understand why you are doing what you are doing it makes it alot easier to decipher through all the different opinions and methods. I am in no way trying to be rude or fight, just very passionate about this hobby and I hate to see people get misinformed. I think the best foundation for learning saltwater would be books. Chances are if it's been published it is already a tried and true method. JMHO
  5. I've always done a fw dip kind of as a last resort thing. Some people swear by dipping any and everything that goes into thier tank. Some people swear by quarentining their fish for extended periods. Niether of these will gaurantee 100% survival rate. I usually only fw dip if the fish has parasites and all other options(medication) have failed. This has worked well for me, I have lost very few fish. Would you go to the doctor if you were well? I guess I view doing a fw dip in the same way. If the fish appears healthy with no visible signs of parasites then why treat it for them. FW dips are extremely stressful for fish and if you do do one at least buffer the ph and make sure it matches the ph of your tank.
  6. How do you acclimate yourt corals??? I've always just immediately placed them in the tank and never had any issues. I've always bought corals local so they are usually only in the bag for 45mins-1hour. Just curious as to the purpose of acclimating a coral.
  7. I would suggest not getting the powder blue at all!!!!! If you are having toruble keeping fish in general this is not the fish to get. One of the most sensitive tangs out there. They require lots and lots of swimming room 200 gallons plusand a variety of algaes as well. In general the majority of these guys just don't make it in captivity. IMHO this is one of those fish that we should just leave in the ocean. For every 1 you see living and thriving in captivity several others have parished along the way. Plenty of other gorgeous tangs out there that are much more suited to life in captivity. JMO

    GTA4

Just picked it up. frickin awesome!! Online gameplay is unreal.
  9. (clap)awesome shot of the leafy seadragon!!!(clap)
  10. I keep sps, lps, and softies all in the same tank. All are growing and thriving. Occasionally a torch or bubble coral will reach over and sting another coral. Corals just being corals I guess. Never anything that doesn't grow back in a week or so.
  11. If the clam released it itself then I would not worry at all. It will regrow the byssal threads or byssus. I would leave it if its happy. Whenever I try to put mine back they always move back where they want to be
  12. Now i've heard of the byssal threads tearing off and I know the clam can regrow them but i've never heard of a clam regrowing a whole new byssal organ. Interestesting. FWIW I would never intentionally tear byssal threads, but rather use an exacto knife to cut the byssal threads. Its is generally not recommended to tear byssal threads for fear of tearing out the byssal gland with it. I know it is possible to remove a clam by tearing the byssal threads, but why risk injuring it.
  13. I picked up a frag today from perry in vancouver www.oceaninabox.com. As well as some other goodies(plotting)
  14. It depends, if it released it on its own it will definitely grow back. If it was torn off of something then the odds aren't so good. If the byssal gland was pulled out then it definitely won't grow back unfortunately. HTH
  15. Any of the LFS would be more than happy to test your water for free. Thats the service you get when you shop local
  16. cool I'll do it now and get some pics up
  17. I use a cannon digital rebel slr. got a good deal at costco. I use it primarily on backpacking journeys and give the pictures to my girlfriends father, who then transforms them into amazing oil and acrylic paintings. I still need to get better at messin with the white balance when taking tank shots. It has a full auto function that makes it pretty much idot proof. The only downside is size. You just can't compare that big thing to the credit card sized cameras. Other than that I love it and it takes amazing pictures
  18. maroon. she doesn't bother any fish just doesn't like it when I stick my hand in my tank. Still scares me every time. She always waits until I am not looking
  19. mine eats anything as well. She even bites me every time i put my hand in the tank.

    Problems

I thought clown gobies were known to nip at the smaller polyps of sps corals.
  21. I have some decapped brine I could send your way as well as some freshly hatched, and 48 hour enriched brine. Though I'm not sure these will be of any help if they are kudas because their fry are pelagic and would need live rotifers. Are the fry hitching to anything other than each other?? Hard to give good advice without knowing for sure what kind of seahorses you have. A picture is worth a thousand words
