  1. Looking outstanding Jase! So is it all plumbed out to the garage? I like how the bonsai just encrusted like crazy with just a tiny nub sticking up. In my old cube, that's exactly what happened too.

Why did you switch over to a Ca Reactor?

Yep! It all runs into the garage, so in theory I should keep my carpet dry at all times (or at least that's what I told the wife (whistle)). Yea that bonsai has really spread since the tank upgrade. Looks like its starting to grow up a bit more now since that picture, I was just kinda shocked how far out it spread before it went up.

I switched over to the calcium reactor because I felt like as I added more and more coral, and the frags grew into smaller colonies I didn't want to keep constantly 'fiddling' with the dosing amounts. To an extent I will have to adjust the reactor, but I have already seen an increased stability with having it on line in these few months with the key parameters. Dosing worked just fine, really both are great, I just felt like I was missing a little something with just dosing the cal, alk, mag. And with how much I travel I wanted one less thing to worry about. I am a very lazy reefer, so basically the calcium reactor was more 'set and forget' once the initial growing pains worked themselves out. Add to it that all the big sexy SPS tanks around that I saw were running calcium reactors led me to follow their proven route of success.

  2. Since my last build thread is gone into the great interwebs abyss, I figured I would start a new one to track my progress.

This tank is a 93g rimless marineland cube. 30x30x24 tall. Running it through the wall into my garage, where it is currently hooked up to a 40g breeder frag tank, and sump. The tank has been drilled (so long, warranty) by me, and I installed a custom overflow box. I am running a beananimal style overflow and two returns, one in either corner. I got it all going and running with livestock around 2/2014. Seeing as I already had my previous tank up and running in the same room, transferring over everything went pretty smoothly.

The goal for the tank is mainly SPS, although I do have quite a few other corals mixed in as well...zoas, acans, duncans, blastos, scolys, nps gorgonian, chalice, pagoda cup, scroll coral, plate coral, and a few heads of frogspawn and hammer. Ok, quite a bit non-sps now that I look at it.

    Equipment list:

    2x mp40s

    Return pump: Jebao DC12000

Lighting: I have been running one OR Arctic s026 and one Ecotech Radion XR30w Gen2. Soon I will be replacing the Ecotech with another Arctic. I know, I know, I just don't use the gadgets on the ecotech enough to justify it.

Skimmer is a SWC 180 cone. Outside of some startup issues with the pump, this skimmer has been rockin' for me for a few years now.

Reef Octopus Calcium Reactor (started out on a dosing system, switched over to the reactor a couple months ago and am very happy so far)

    Fish:

    1 hippo tang

2 chromis (was once 5, I will probably look to add a few more here in a while because 2 is a pretty pathetic 'school')

1 juvenile blochii tang (yes, I had to google it too)

I am not a huge fish guy, but will probably add a few more here and there. I do not want to run a lid on the tank at the moment, and my yellow coris wrasse learned that the hard way.

    And now some pictures!

It has been a couple months since I have taken any pictures, so I will try to get some new ones up here one of these weeks.

Thanks for making it to the end!

  3. Same exact thing happened on my 93g rimless. Been running a while now and no issues whatsoever. I water tested in the garage for about 3 weeks before installing just to be sure though haha. Marineland wasn't much help though when I called to discuss it. Their answer was something to the tune of 'if it does end up leaking all over the floor, we will happily send you a replacement tank if it's still under warranty and the warranty hasn't been voided'....like the tank replacement would be at the top of my pile of worries if that happened

  4. I am in agreeance here. I think the import/export side may be effected by this at some point and rightfully so if the species are truely diminishing. I think as hobbits we have plenty of sources for getting some of the items on the list as they have been aqua cultured for long enough to meet our wants.

  5. Thanks for all the support guys! Steve (ssappington) definitely saved me tonight. Great guy, came over and got the pump back up and running.

With all the negative shib going on around the forum lately it's this type of thing that reminds us what a great group of support we have around and what separates this forum and group from all the others (IMO). Thanks to all who offered help and an extra big thanks to Steve who came over and all he took was a mouth full of tank water, great deal!
