1. Do you ever make it toward Salem? I'm looking for an acrylic sump about this size, but don't head north very often
2. Couple overflows. Both are broken on the tank side where they hook together. I had them acrylic glued together and they work - $10 Pump, I think it works. Makes noise at least- $10 LEDs on a string- $15 Under tank heat mat -$5 I also have a hodge-podge of other pumps and powerheads that I don't need and can't attest to working quality. Feel free to root through them if you come to get anything else. I have some bulbs, too, I don't want. Shoot me a PM if interested! I'm willing to drive and meet you in exchange for a good trade!
3. Here's more: CPR Bak-Pak - $75 Don't know much about this skimmer, other than that its got a broken collar (acrylic glue worked fine) and it worked great for my medium tanks - $25 Random tank, maybe 20g? Its in the attic, about 1'x3' -$20 More coming...
4. Hey folks, I got out the hobby about 5 years ago due to a lack of time and funds, but I was given a 150g tank and stand, so I'm pretty sure that is a sign I'm supposed to get back in When I got out, I sold my tanks and livestock, and just shoved all the hardware in several cabinets. My tanks before this were 20g, 35g, and 75g, so everything I have is way underrated, so I'd like to just clear it out. I'll list the stuff I have with prices, but keep in mind my goal is mostly just to clear some space and trade for some equipment I can use, so feel free to make offers (I'd prefer trades over cash). If you have something more valuable than what I have, I'm willing to through in some cash with the trade to get what I need. Here is what I want: -Vortech powerhead(s) -Protein skimmer (for 150g) -Kessel LEDs -Acrylic Sump <---my stand is 4'x2' -Dry rock -Promises of frags once this sucka is up Here is what I have: This is the junk that was in the 150 when I got it. Hang-on filters, a 4' light, and a bunch of pumps. I can't vouch as to whether anything is working, so I don't want any cash for it. Maybe just a scoop of substrate or gravel for seeding? If no one claims, I'll trash it all. 130W CF light fixture with LED moonlights. I loved this light setup for my smaller tank. It clamps on to the side of any 24" tank. Great for softie tanks- $50 (sorry this is an attic pic) Same setup as above, only 260W and 4'. Great lights! - $100 12g complete Eclipse aquarium. Filter, lights, pump. Great for a desk. $100
5. Ok, I checked at both LHS, and neither sell the floor jacks, but both can get them in, so that's a go. I'm not a construction savvy guy, but I follow directions pretty well. The picture below is my thoughts for placement of the tank and jacks. What are your thoughts? (the solid rectangle is the tank, this is a top down view). Ideally, I would love to put the tank against a wall in my house that is running parallel to the joists (as shown in the picture). But if feedback says it would be risky and a perpendicular wall as the best bet, I would change my mind for piece of mind.
6. Awesome. I saw it on a couple pages, but if you watch the video on the HD page, it is called "temporary". Most applications I saw online (and I only briefly looked into it) talked about using the jacks to lift a floor so a beam could be repaired/replaced. Great idea, and I'm glad it will be movable with the tank. Thanks for the help!
7. I have seen these, but they are labeled as "temporary". Can I assume they are ok to use long term?
8. Ok, thats comforting. Where/are your joists running perpendicular to the tank? Thanks!
9. To start off, I have done tons of google searches already, so I am well versed in all the regular links... I have a 150g tank I'd like to put inside my house. Problem is, that is almost 2000lbs of dead weight resting on my joists. I can put the tank against a supporting wall (although not my first choice of placement) but I'm worried my floor will sag and strain the tank. The joists are 2x10s about twelve feet in length and my stand is 55x26". I have about a 2' high crawlspace with insulation in between the joists (so sister is out). The floor of the crawlspace is compact dirt with a canvas(?) tarp covering the whole area. Anyone have any experience? Any structural engineers out there with some advice? Any engineers want to come take a look?? Thanks!
10. Does anyone know if this includes acrylic tanks? Or if petco has acrylic tanks?

forming plastics

lol. I'm sure the foods room would love me using their ovens. Actually, as daryll mentioned, we want to only heat a localized area. most of the work we will be doing involves bending and curving along a straight line. I looked at the strip heaters, that may be the way to go. Thanks for the help.

forming plastics

this post is kind of out-of-bounds, but it's applicable to this thread. i coach a robotics team at DHS. we are allowed to use several different types of plastics in the construction of our bot; lexan, abs, acrylic, plexiglas, etc. This year we formed the sheets by cutting them. We'd like to try bending and forming the sheets next year as well. What kind of equipment would we use for this? A heat gun? Any tips? Thanks!
13. i just got back from visiting roger's classroom and have been inspired. i would like to upgrade my setup to a frag tank. the aquapod is fun, but students love to see the variety and colors of corals and watch them grow. summer is coming up and i'd like to use the time to take up a collection and try to piece together a frag tank for my classroom. if anyone has any hardware they'd like to donate, i'd be much obliged. i'll start begging for frags when that time comes;) My dream tank would be a 40gal breeder, a hefty protein skimmer, and a 250 MH with an electronic ballast (yes, that is almost identical to his, and for good reason!). Those are the two big pieces. I have a lot of the other components floating around in my scrap closet, but i'm open for contributions. thanks again for the support, you all never cease to impress me with your help!
14. roger, are your tanks in albany? I might take you up on your offer since your a bit closer to me.
15. Hello Folks! Summer is fast approaching and I am planning the destiny of my tank during the summer. Last year, I just brought it home and cared for it there. This summer, though, I have a different set of goals. After two years of students who have seen Finding Nemo and convinced the fish are always hungry for a fist-full of food(flame), my tank is getting gross. I'm going to be gone a lot this summer taking courses and working, so I would like to use the time to decomission my tank and give it a hardcore cleaning. I would like to bake my live-rock, change my substrate, and scrub all of the calcium algae off the sides. While all this is happening, I have no place for my livestock. Along with some corals, I have two clownfish, a serpent star, and a lot of hermit crabs. Would any one with extra space be willing to take them on? I have no emotional attachment to any of them personally, so I don't need to get back my exact corals, crabs, or fish. In fact, it would be cool to cycle in some new corals and this might be a chance to trade. Thanks again for all your support. The students love the tank and watching it grow. Unfourtanetly, they have lost feeding privelages without hawk-like supervision(wife)
16. Here are some cell phone pics
17. Bump. I'd really like to sell off the LR. The other stuff can be put in storage, but the live rock needs a caring new home... Offers! Trades!
18. mostly largish pieces. 10 or so of approximately-not-quite-half the volume of a basketball. Then maybe just as many small-medium pieces.
19. internal pump No reflectors I also have a CPR backpack protein skimmer
20. The lights are a 48" 128W(4x32W) PC fixture w? LED moonlights that clamps to the sides. $100 I have a 500GPH return pump that cycles the water from the sump back to the tank. $20 I have another similar sized, but unmarked pump that runs with foul language and a couple smacks (I use it for water changes). $10 I do not have any digital timers for sale. I am downgrading my home aquarium, so I have lots of stuff to part with. If you have something you want to get yourself for christmas, I probably have it.
21. I have ~50lbs of live rock left that I would like to get rid of. It has plenty of beautiful coralline algae and lots of hitch hikers. $100 will take it all. I'll even throw in some kenya tree and poly's if you want them. I also have aquarium parts (pumps, protein skimmer, lighting etc) that I can sell, too.
22. Kudos to Steve (Smann) for the bulbs! Thanks!
23. I need 32W Sunpaq dualies for the 24g aquapod. I'll need an actinic and daylight version.
24. Hello good folks of the forum! Just an update on the DHS TFT Tank. Over the summer, I brought the tank home, but in my un-AC'd house the tank suffered a meltdown during the 100+ degree weather. I saved most of the wildlife (clowns included!) by moving them to my home tank, but lost quite a few corals. No fear, though! My home tank is thriving so I was able to restock the classroom tank before I brought it back to school. Currently, the tank is doing great. I put a peppermint shrimp, emerald crab, and serpent star in there and students are amazed. They love to drop food in and watch it the tank floor come to life. I have the tank right by my door, so students are always dropping in from the halls to check things out. I do have one request from the forum; my tank needs new bulbs. The ones it has are over a year old and starting to dim. Any help to that end would be great!
