  1. Here is my layout i'm going to be using. It should be on the bluer side with alot of different spectrums included. The blues should be able to dim independently from white/red/green/violet channels. The red are the moonlights on the IT units, they are just a normal spot on the D120s This layout is pretty much the same as Bhazard on RC (he was the guy that has tested dozens of these units with dif colors). Except he recommended adding some reds/greens to the mix. Let me know what you think.
  2. i haven't seen anthing about drivers going out on the RC threads, they seem to be pretty reliable. The extra LEDs arent even needed, I just want them to try and change colors up to my liking
  3. Yes, please see how much extra leds cost cause I'd like to have about 5 of each of the colors to play with to my liking, lol
  4. Dont follow me lol... I don't know what I am doing
  5. How are you liking the reefbreeders color layout?
  6. I can have my layout later tonight if needed or we could just wait until the end of the weekend and order monday. did you decide how is best to pay?
  7. John, the spread seems to be about 2-3 feet depending upon how high you can hang it. I personally am doing 2 over a 5x2 frag tank and am going to use 90 degree optics. I pretty much only have sps though so I am going for alot of par. you could probably get away with sps in the middle and everything else along the sides.
  8. Frank I'm not sure where you are seeing that the LEDs have a broad spectrum? They allow you to pick from about 15 bins of bridgelux LEDs from warm white all the way thru greens, reds, violets, and blues. The guys on RC have had countless fixtures built with different color combos and have sort of a map to go by. Having the ability to place them on two separate channels also allows you to dim the colors to your liking if you wish. The do have prebuilt formulas which range from 10-14k because you can dim one color independently if you wish to, I think that is where you are confused. The more I read about these units the more I am impressed. Yes the service does come from China but there was a flaw found with the IT2040 units as they are pretty new. The time was advancing a few minutes a day on the controller, not a fatal flaw but annoying none the less. The manufacturer had new LCDs made and has shipped them to all those affected. The insides of the IT units are all modular with plugs so it was an easy unplug and plug the new one in. Also, the way the units are wired allows you to swap out LEDs by just unsoldering one and soldering in a new one. The forward voltage of the LEDs don't have to match so you can buy extra bridgelux leds for cheap and swap out different colors until you are satisfied with the color. I'm willing to be a guinea pig on these with the price it is a no brainer. Mike
  9. On the question of 40 breeder it depends upon how high you have to hang it. The higher you hang the more area it will cover. These seem to have plenty of par due to the close proximity of the LEDs to each other so most have to dim them down. You can just hang them higher and get more of a spread
  10. You wouldn't happen to be surfing from work would you????
  11. Frank...I've been reading the Chinese led thread on reefcentral for several hours, lol. That thread had a guy that has tested many of these units from the different factories in china as well as building his own DIY units. The evergrow units seem to have the best build quality as they have broken them down into their components. To answer your question of the kelvin output, having the ability to mix/match my own color combo will allow you to choose whatever combo you like. I would like a "full"'spectrum like the radions that have other colors than white/blue.
  12. Bo at these prices I'm definitely in for two.
  13. When do you want to get together? If you deliver I will make it worth your while in frags hint hint hint
  14. If you'd like you can put her in my 12 foot reef... I currently have a loose pair (bought seperate male/female) and the male has since reverted back to female coloration. I was thinking of adding another female to make a trio and to try and entice my male to change back to his flashier colors. And ich is no big deal... my Achilles always has a spot or two but has been fine for over 2 years (laugh)
  15. Yes it would be prior to assembly. I'll hit you up when I start to build it, thanks Mike
  16. How much would it cost to have a few hundred holes put in a piece of acrylic? Putting together a frag tank and hate the idea of hand drilling several hundred holes in the acrylic!
  17. do you have any pics of the frag system? Thanks
  18. bulb combo is 5 ATI blue plus, 2 purple plus, and one coral (forget the name, the newest ATI white bulb with some blue tint) in each of the 2 5 foot 80 watt ATI fixtures. I flank with 96 cree leds; 24 royal blue, 12 blue, and 12 cool white on each side of the fixture. I also have 12 UV leds now but they don't really add anything except at dusk...
  19. Thanks guys and gals! I don't think my tank is TOTM worthy yet... maybe in a few years
  20. Finally got my gopro Hero 2 out with the dive housing and took a video of my reef. Make sure to watch in HD and check out around 7:30 where I feed the zebra eel. Later Mike
  21. Here is where you can buy linear actuators that will pull a light setup. I had 3 MH on a rack system on my 220 years ago that went up and down with the push of a button. http://www.firgelliauto.com/ I specifically used the track actuator that had plenty of pulling force.
