  1. I use both Hydor, and Tunze.

The Koralia #4 moves some serious water, and the flow pattern is pretty wide. The Magnet holder is OK, but I think the Tunze wins in that department. The Hydor magnet is a little weak, best on 3/8" thick tanks and under.

I also have 2 Nanostream 6025's and the best thing about these pumps is how easy it is to re-direct flow. The Magnets are very powerful, I'd use them on at least 5/8" possibly 3/4" thick tanks. The nanostreams in the beginning had all kinds of issues, but mine have ran flawless for 4 months. Nice flow pattern too. Not so much of a V pattern like the koralia. I like the look of the Tunze better, but who looks at powerheads?

6 of 1 and half dozen of the other.

  2. [language filter], I miss my old FW days. I may have to set up another tank. I used to breed Alonacara, Labs, and Tropheus. I must be crazy to think about setting up a Cichlid tank, which is to blame for me HAVING to buy a big tank for growouts. Of course I have no regrets.

    Doran,

Got any pics of the fry?

  3. Chewie,

Sorry, my photography skills, and camera leave much to be desired.

I looked at Majano pics via google, and the ones they showed the tenticles were to thick, and the base/foot was to slender.

trust me, my photo skills suck too. I usually have other people take pics of my critters.

Anyway, there are a bunch of colonial anemones that that pic resembles. Either way, they're cool until they start overpopulating. They aren't easy to get rid of or to isolate, as they tend to let go and float around to where you don't want them.

As far as I know, the do not sting humans. They will sting other corals though.

  4. Are you using a ph monitor? Have you calibrated it lately? As for salifert PH test kits, I have never been able to get into the 8.3 range with them. I quit testing PH LONG ago.

Dripping kalk at night for ALL evaporation was my best solution.

  5. Calcium and alkalinity are related; If you have too much calcium' date=' this drives down alkalinity, and if you add too much of an alkalinity supplement, your calcium will drop. Magnesium helps prevent calcium precipitation, so it [i']does[/i] help maintain levels, to a degree.

I found this online. You're in Zone 3. The author gives specific directions for how to move back into the right parameters: http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/nov2002/chem.htm

Maybe also doing a small WC will also help...?

    Hope this helps! :D

Keep us informed on how things are going...

    Excellent info, and great resource!

  6. Well as they say most people only complain/comment when its bad. Sounds to me like the shipping co let the package get cold in transit (air freight) and probably hot on the ground in the warehouse. It was a hot week and probably not the best time to be shipping corals. Its to bad you guys could not have communicated better.

Yep! It's quite possible that it was a shipping screw-up. Even more of a reason to take pics and work something out to get replacement frags. It wouldn't be Brandon's fault if the frags didn't make it in shipping.

  7. Perhaps he did and they could not come to a solution?

You only know half the story here, but that didn't stop you from jumping on the guys back and going along for the ride. Whats the point in Brandon giving his account here when you have already jumped to judgement?

    Perhaps he didn't.

Even though I know less than half of the story, the only thing I am leary about is the lack of proof of the dead frags.

I am not jumping his back, I'm only asking for him to clear this up with proof the frags didn't make it. I have no dog in this fight, nor any qualms with Brandon, but I just can't get past the simple point that no proof was ever shown.

  8. Have you ever had a transaction go bad on RC? Once ppl jump on the bandwagon (just like a few of you have already done), trying to plead your side of the story is a waste of time.

I've bought many things from Brandon, frags on several occasions, a skimmer, and soon some bulbs. Never once has the transaction been less than perfect.

    No I haven't.

If it were me, and I had people who knew me on multiple boards I would at least TRY to shed some light on the situation.

It's pretty simple. Take a pic of the dead frags, e-mail to seller, THEN figure out a way to either get replacement frags, or a refund.

Try ordering $300 worth of frags from liveaquaria.com and then do a credit card chargeback without provining proof that the frags died or were unhealthy.

  9. I don't believe that he can reply to that thread as I was told he was banned from RC. I do not know the length of the ban or the reason. Again, being the devils advocate, reefgeek has not had a bad transaction that I know about on this site. Most people that I have spoken with that have done business with him were satisfied. Whether or not things have changed, I do not know.

    Jay

Would it not have been an issue if he provided proof to the seller that the frags didn't make it?

The thread on RC was started over 2 weeks ago, and it looks like reefgeek was "moved on" a day or 2 ago.

This thread is open, and he is not 'Moved On" from here.

  10.

Reefgeek is more than welcome to state his side of the story and clear things up, but as far as I know he has not had a bad transaction on this site. The complaint came off of the RC site. Elmo18 is just bringing the complaint to our attention.

I was about to buy a UV from reefgeek but when I saw that thread on RC I had my reservations. I am glad that it was brought to my attention.

All details aside. How can one purchase frags from a fellow reefer in another state, receive them, and do a CC chargeback without providing proof that the frags didn't make it. Trust me when I say that I would have replied to the original RC thread, proving my case. I probably would have made my own thread.

It's pretty simple to lay out the dead frags on a table and snap a pic to send to the seller. Would have saved alot of trouble.

  11. Clean your skimmer well, including the pump. Do at least a 50% W/C. I have got away with doing 75% or more a few times. It's cheap insurance as it will get the majority of the contaminates out quickly.

Was the paint used Latex or Enamel?

    BTW, sorry about your loss.

  12. I've always had the digitate hydroids in my aquarium- and had never had a problem with them. I'm sure others will disagree' date=' but that's my opinion.[/quote']

I had digitate hydroids in my first SW tank 7 years ago. As with most inverts they are hit or miss, and mine never did any damage. The colonial hydroids OTOH, were another story. I was never able to eradicate them while the rock was live.
