  1. Yeah, it's hard to mix things in a shallow tank. It's still best to do you homework and read up on what you want and what the coral needs. A good reference book is Coarls, a quick reference guide by Julian Sprung
  2. I started out with softies and then went over to SPS and LPS and clams. You can sometimes mix the two by placement and how you set-up your tank. Besides supplementation as Andy mentioned, some corals like/need bright light and some others don't. Before you go out and buy, some reading is reconmended so you don't burn those $$. hth
  3. Those look really nice OB. Dendros, too Want some(laugh)

    Foam Rock Wall

That's a lot of work using silicone. That's great that you found some.

    Foam Rock Wall

Not sure if that will work

    Foam Rock Wall

Not sure what you mean by columns. You can only put so much rock on the egg crate - mostly small stuff to look like a rock wall and the foam will be the rest. Or else it'll lean, I use rocks that were kind of flat or had a cup in it and just turned it up, tie wrap it to the egg crate foamed, cleaned, cleared out, then epoxy with sand sprinkled. Also while I use the foam, I sprinkled sand while it was still wet and that worked out. Didn't have to do too much but epoxy and sand.

    Foam Rock Wall

This one is finished drying, There is no exposed foam for disinergration, there are 2 layers of sand and epoxy so the foam is sealed, on the front on the back side there will be no light so no problem. If there is, I'll just slip a piece of black acrylic in between the tank wall and the back of the foam wall. Those are two holes in the upper right corner and not foam, one of the BH's for the CL is showing thru It's time consuming, planning where to place the rock, try to have holes for tunnels and use less foam. I've read that even though you may have 20lbs of rock, it'll float like a boat, so you have to use the foam sparingly on the open area's and where there is a "lot" of foam you can cut it out from the backside egg crate and all. Foam Rock Wall

Not worried at all. I've just finished coating the foam (2x) with epoxy and sand. The Pond & Stone is made for water and once it protected it will not dissinagrate. It's the other foam by Great Stuff that is used for filling/insulating holes that is the problem. Not made for water contact. The idea, where else RC http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1144204 http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1188352 http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1300282 http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1375191 http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1421551 http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1424389 Those are really plastic "grills" and not metal. DOH! Bob - You could do this on one of your display tanks and don't need a rock wall. Did you see my post on "Gluing Rocks"? I used this same foam to "afix" several rock piles together and in one pix I am actually holding one of those piles up in the air. Just an idea AquaticEngineer - Got it at Ace Hwdr, but not all of them carry it and it costs too much on-line with shipping added. I have one full can unopened I was gonna to take back, if you can't find it LMK I'll sell it to ya. It's call Great Stuff Pond & Stone

    Foam Rock Wall

Well it's almost done, just need the epoxy and sand sprinkle to protect the foam from UV. The wall is in two pieces, try and guess where they meet (nutty) Those 2 speaker grills are my screens for the CL 1st pix - full frontal 2nd right side 3rd left side 4th downlow remember this is only an 79 -80 galish tank 36"L
  10. Keep and eye out on that horseshoe, it'll get big
  11. I use to use Kalk and Vinagar, making a paste and injecting them with a hypo/needle and just watch them melt - just like the Wicked With and water I'm melting, I'm melting. You have to inject them in the mouth very slowly so they don't close up and I also inject them in the tube as well. Double dose. (threaten)
  12. James they look like this. I made one for Eric/CA2OR
  13. I'm on FireFox, switched over beginning of the year. Don't know why I waited so long. I had to download Adobe Flash just about everytime I wanted to see some pix's and that got O L D very quick. I very seldom use MSN let alone Xplorer. Try it out Dennis, you won't go back (clap)
  14. Don't forget to do the epoxy and sand thing. On the can it say it will yellow under UV. This stuff holds great and is a good cost effective way to "glue" rocks together. Hard to find, but eventually found it at ACE Hdwr. have fun
  15. Just wondering what the names of the three corals in the pix, starting in the middle the red one at the bottom, then the one just above it red w/lime green center and then the one to the right purple w/green center tia
  16. I thought you didn't care about the K and what kind of bulbs they are(laugh) One is a Iwaski 65k and the other is a Xm 10K. The Iwaski had been run for about 2yrs on a PFO HQI ballast and the XM I got was used and I ran it about 6 mths, same ballast. You might want to run the Iwaski as they are known to go for 2.5yrs or more. Yes, 2.5yrs it's on RC. hth
  17. Ryan I'll bring them with me, they're both 250w's should lite up. Now he owe's me. (clap) When I get my tank up and running I won't have to buy stock Hmmm so far, I have 4 PNWMAS and 2 PSAS for frags, my tank should look really nice (laugh)(laugh)(laugh)
  18. Sorry, your too far away. I have a couple of used 250's just sitting here collecting dust, wonder why I haven't 86'th them yet
  19. The tank is more or less finished, the stand needs doors but that's later on. The skimmer is at a holding pattern till I get the pump in. It's a Laguna 2900 Maxflow, it'll have a mesh mod done to it and to make it work I'll need to make another volute. Anyway working on my foam rock wall and found some rocks that belonged together so I used some of the Great Stuff Pond & Stone and made this The 3rd pix I am actually holding this rock pile 2' from the ground as I took the pix. The black foam will be covered with epoxy and sand to further protect the foam from UV. This is IMO a way better way to "glue" rocks together to make whatever you want and it won't fall down.
  20. I would suggest the Lumen Brights D3 Pendant with the Phoenix 14k DE bulb. As for the ballast ARO, Ice Cap just to name a few Here's a good read on my suggestion good luck
  21. The yellow is the "return" or common wire and the red is the "hot or power" wire. Just like in the diagram, the yellow goes to one side of "all" the lamps and the red goes to the other side. The four wires are for four lamps, forgot what the wattage was for each red wire. But it's rated on the ballast, divide by 4 is how many watts you can run. IE, the ballast is rated for 140watts, divide by 4 = 35 watts. This means that you can use 4x 35 watt lamps, 2x 70 watt lamps or one 140watt lamp. But if you just have 2x 35watt lamps just use 2 red wires and tuck the other two away, but do not connect them together, leave them seperate. And the white and black are the power to the wall socket hth
  22. Talk about a mix up in shipment
  23. Beckie Never got your PM? But you have one:D
