  1. Conductivity is to measure salinity, correct? Anybody have experience with these? I dont want something that I have to calibrate every week.
  2. I thought the reef keeper lite could not do net, but apparently it can. That would have been helpful information before my purchase, but I trust I will not be disappointed. Oxx how are you able to contain yourself? That is some serious self control. I plan on spending at least 23 hours after the Apex arrival on set up. If not more. (rock2)
  3. Griff, how does it control your two RO/DI inputs? Do you have a solenoid attached to the controller?
  4. But unfortunately does not have a web interface, correct? That is a worth a lot to me but the reefkeeper lite is a good deal.
  5. hard to say what your problem was, but you did the right thing commencing several water changes. Ive found that this is simply part of the hobby, at least for me, and you deal with it the best you can and hope it doesnt happen very often. Most corals do come back to color as long as they are not too far gone IME. Good luck.
  6. 500 bucks, but you have every piece of monitoring equipment all in one shot. Seems pretty cool. In the summer I can turn off my lights if the tank gets too hot, control my ato, calcium reactor, etc. Cant wait. (rock2)
  7. Sweet. I love it. Did you ever get the PAR meter? I assume no, as you are still curious about them.
  8. Good. Ive read good things about it and I took the plunge. Looking forward to being able to control anything I want from one central spot. I think the main benefit for me, is to be able to monitor and control my tank via the internet. Im very excited.
  9. Any pics of your set up? The PAR readings are what piqued my interest in this thread. I was under the impression that LED's still were not a viable option because of poor PAR values or poor color. This guy seems to have addressed both issues.
  10. Anyone here use this controller? If so, any feedback on the unit you could provide is appreciated.
  11. Thought I would share this with everyone. Very interesting stuff here. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?p=16251087#post16251087
  12. Looking to add sand back to my tank after years of having a bare bottom tank but I am not sure what size is suitable for a very shallow sand bed of 1-2". Looking for something that wont get blown around too much but doesn't look like crushed coral. Any help appreciated.
  13. Thanks for all the replies. From what I have read, they seem almost too good to be true. This thread piqued my interest. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1676085 Skimmer referenced above: http://www.reefspecialty.com/Protein-Skimmers-Super-Reef-Octopus/c21_103/p459/Super-Reef-Octopus-5000sss-Internal-Protein-Skimmer/product_info.html
  14. Thanks! The pictures were pretty rushed and dont really do it justice.
  15. Does anyone have experience with these skimmers? If so, any feedback appreciated. From what I have read they are pretty sweet skimmers for the money. http://www.marinesolutionsinc.com/catalog/Protein-Skimmers-MSX-Skimmers/c22_48/index.html
  16. My clowns just laid some eggs. Kind of neat. Really hard to get a shot of them though. The angle distorts the picture somewhat. Apologies if it gives you a headache. Full tank shot, just for fun.
  17. So you dont think it will help my pod population? When i said critters I meant worms, pods, etc. What is the difference between having it lit versus no light. I just assumed I would have it lit for macro. Rob it looks like you are running a real shallow sand bed in your display. How about you chief? Just curious if anyone has experience with RDSB on a barebottom. Thanks for the replies.
  18. I have been running my bare bottom tank for a few years now with pretty decent success. In the last few months or so I have noticed an increase in small patches of hair algae and an overall decrease in the number of "critters" in my tank. I currently have a 75g main display, 40g fuge and 30g sump. I was considering putting a DSB into my 40g fuge and see if that helps my algae and critter problem. I was thinking about a 5-6" bed with a korallia 4 blowing over the top. Any thoughts, advise or anecdotes appreciated.
  19. Still have several frags of orange cap, green w/purple cap, purple montipora and tri color acro.
  20. If I recall, I had this exact same problem and dripping kalk definitely helped a lot. However, I dont drip kalk anymore and have plenty of coralline....hmmm.
  21. get ur phosphates tested. What test kits are you using for mag, alk, cal?
  22. Andy, Sweet graphic organizer. Only problem, I have no idea what half that stuff means. (whistle) I take it the non CPU stuff will not work with my camera and, for instance, the AI-P nikkor lense will work but will not auto focus...etc. Also, this diagram is for the D70, do you think these specs hold true for the D40? Do you know the difference between the teleconverter and extension tubes? They seem to be very similar, no?
  23. If you are in the area and in need of some cheap frags I have the following. Standard Orange Cap $5 Far left of the pic. Unknown tricolor acro and a fast grower. Nice purple tips, light green polyps. $5-10 Picture doesnt do it justice. Bright purple montipora. Very fast grower. $10 Random acro, green tips. Fairly fast growing. $5 Green, with purple rimmed monti cap. $5 Purple monti cap $5 See first photo.Center front, just below the coral beauty
  24. I am looking to get some more zoom out of my Nikon D40 with 55-220 and 18-55 lenses. I know that buying a macro lens is the way to go, however, I do not have the extra coin laying around to buy one. However, I have seen a few things like extension tubes and teleconverters that do the trick on the "cheap." Exhibit A: http://cgi.ebay.com/2X-Tele-Converter-Teleconverter-for-Nikon-D50-D70s-D40x_W0QQitemZ120366061780QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCamera_Lenses?hash=item120366061780&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72:1234|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:1|293:1|294:50 Does anyone have experience with Telelconverters or extension tubes? Teleconverter seems too good to be true. Second question: Does anyone know the name of some good older macro lenses? Meaning, I do not need the latest and greatest macro lens, I just want something to get the job done. Thanks a bunch in advance. (rock2)
