  1. Like the stock list except the purple tang. Even though very common I would add a yellow tang instead.

I had a mandarin in a new tank that ate pods at first then got hungry and ate frozen so give it a try if you want. JME. they can be tricky but if you can get them eating very easy to keep.

also agree ditch the chromis or do both with anthias

  2. Just an update. Dropping off the stand to the wood guy on Monday and picking up the sump tomorrow so shouldn't be to much longer before the fun install pics. Pretty much have everything we need for the 1st stage of setup. This one should be fun to setup. T5's are just temp lights until we decide on an MH fixture.

  3. someone gave me this game as a gift to try and get me hooked. I don't want it so if any of you addicts want it come get it or I may be able to bring it to a meeting. I don't know how many versions there are but it is the game with a months subscription and a couple of guest passes. No one I know wants it.

  4. Coming from an inexperienced person. I have a canon powershot 540 and can take some pretty sweet pics of my tank with it but only in certain situations. It has an underwater filter that works fantastic. Heck my picture did pretty well for POTM with a powershot. I have played with the D80 and it is by far SWEET and I know hardly anything but a simple 30 minute instruction from the owner and I was takin some [language filter] good shots that my powershot couldn't get. All in all I would love the D80 but the Powershots are hard to beat for the price. I know I could get that shot with a D80 and some time. With my powershot I don't think so unless the acro was right infront of the glass. Probably a more experienced person could do it but I'd rather not struggle and become an expert at the powershot.

My vote: DSLR - NIKON / POS - Canon Powershot

  5. I definately did not do the metal stand. I had a guy that does this for a living do it. He is really good. I wouldn't trust a reef tank weight on my welding guessing skills. Andy when you're ready give me a PM and I'll get you a quote on what ever you want done. Just draw it out and send it to me. The powdercoat is pretty standard across the board. After doing my metal stand I will never work with an all wood stand again. You gain so much more room and strength with a metal frame and the cost is about the same.

  6. Here is the start of another tank I am designing and seting up for a relative. Some background on the setup. The important things were in the design:

    - Very sleek and to stay away from the "normal waterbed looking" stands and canopies.

    - LOW power usage.

    - Potential Water Leaks minimized

    - Simple yet effective

Now for the tank. We went with an Envision 3 foot cube with external overflow. The tank will sit in a corner so two sides black acrylic. Polished and radius corners

The stand is a metal cube frame powdercoated black. It will be wrapped in teak wood skins. a la H20cooled. Something cool is the tank was designed to be vertically flush with the stand. Something that was a little tricky with a metal stand for support. This tank is going to have an open top.

The sump is a custom 4 foot x 2 foot x 18inches acrylic with baffles and filter sock holder

All equipment will be located in the garage (for obvious reasons)

We are going with Tunze Streams for flow

We should be starting the install in the next couple weeks so many pics and posts to follow. In the meantime here are some teasers. I pick up the stand from the powdercoaters today. yippeee.

  7. Update:

My daughter Emily was born January 21st and she is happy and healthy. With the new addition I haven't had lots of tank time but I did finish the OM4way install. I haven't had a chance to add my rock or aquascape so it is a seafloor of corals right now but it is still very cool. Here is a pic I took last night to share. Once I get the rock in and aquascaped I'll take some more pics.

  8. Yea I had the Neptune and DC8 before the Aquatronica and the Neptune IMO is a "home made" style controller. The DC8 had me just mad when I opened it to see a "high school" electronics lab project in there. It would never run the power I'm running through my power bar currently. Neptune is a great product don't get me wrong but it is dated. The controller was okay though and good "US" product but "Europe" has it beat once again.
