  2. I took a few pics last night. This one turned out really good. All the fish were in a nice tight grouping.
  3. We have a bunch in Canby. Here is our sweet snowman we made.
  4. I went to freddies this morning and they had a pile of them. They just let everyone go from work.
  5. The Dark Portal is open! and i'm stuck at work...... lame. (flame)
  6. That is next on my list of things to do.
  7. Version 2.5 is ready Download at: http://www.oceanfrags.com/aqtray.htm Jan 13, 2006 v 2.5 -Changed program so it will read and display any variable it finds instead of expecting certain variables. -Fixed the "Tank WWW" option which lets you goto your controller web page from the right click menu. -Added User specific variables for Temp, PH and ORP. Users can now set their own High and Low thresholds. -Added a "verbose" or "simple" configuration to the mouseover command. The simple method just displays the raw numbers. The verbose method adds titles to the data. Fixing the single click menu is next on my fix list.
  8. I spend a good 20 minutes making a batch of food with my daughter each night. Its one of our nightly rituals and we both enjoy it. Working on the tanks is relaxing for me and it gets my mind off of work and other things.
  9. I do about an hour a day on weekdays and a couple hours a day on the weekends. This covers three tanks and about 580 gallons.
  10. I also find it shocking that some people never learned: "If You Don't Have Anything Nice to Say... Don't Say Anything at All"
  11. According to the website they are "injection molded polycarbonate" aka some kind of plastic. The concept seems cool. I like the rubber band pegs which will make it easy to mount soft corals. I had a bunch of boston aqua farm plugs but they would fall apart after you re-used them too many times. Plastic plugs will last forever! main www http://www.coralcradle.com details http://www.coralcradle.com/cradles.htm
  12. I ordered a 100 pack and they came in the mail this weekend. I'll let you know how they work as soon as I clean out my frag tank.
  13. Looks great. I like the two seperate islands.
  14. I was walking into the fish room a few minutes after feeding a silverside to the anenome and I saw the big female clown carrying a silverside in her mouth! She went down to the bottom and grabbed the silverside which was 1/2 her size and carried it back up to the anenome. She then gave it a big throw towards the mouth and let go. It was the coolest thing to watch. It took her 4 tries to get the silverside to stick but she did it. Next time I will have the camera ready to capture it.
  15. My wife picked up this book for me a few months ago. It confirms what has been said above. It also says that the coral is often found at the top of the opening of caves where there is alot of food and flow. I highly recommend the book. http://www.amazon.com/Aquarium-Corals-Selection-Husbandry-Natural/dp/1890087475/sr=8-4/qid=1167792451/ref=pd_bbs_4/103-5029185-4701405?ie=UTF8&s=books
  16. How often did you feed it?
  17. Here is another DIY on reefcentral. The video looks pretty good. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1007362
  18. This is what the test kit instuctions say: Instructions: 1. Add with the 5 ml syringe 3 ml of water in the test vial. 2. Add 6 drops of Mg-1 and swirl gently for 30 seconds. 3. Add 1 spoon of Mg-2 powder (spoon inside) to test vial and swirl for 10 seconds. 4. Place the plastic tip firmly on the 1 ml syringe and draw into this Mg-3 reagent until the lower end of the black syringe part is at the 1.00 ml mark. Ensure that during this that the plastic tip is submersed in the Mg-3 reagent to avoid that air bubbles are withdrawn instead of liquid. An air layer between the liquid and the piston is normal. This is air which was present between the end of the tip and the piston, this will not influence the result. 5. Start adding the Mg-3 reagent with the 1 ml syringe to the testvial until the color changes to gray or blue (whichever color is observed first). Do this drop wise and swirl after each drop for a second or two. 6. Hold the syringe with the tip facing upward and read the position of the upper end of the black scringe part. Each division corresponds to 0.01 ml. The magnesium concentration can be obtained from the table or by use of the following equation: ppm Mg = (1 - reading in step 6) x 1500 Natural sea water has a magnesium concentration of approx. 1300 - 1500 ppm. The concentration varies with salinity. Too low magnesium concentration makes maintaining correct calcium and alkalinity concentration difficult. Magnesium concentration can be increased with Salifert`s magnesium.
  19. Has anyone seen this book before or know if it is any good? Giant Clams in the Sea and the Aquarium by James Fatherree. http://www.clamsdirect.com/store/product.php?productid=2290&cat=0&page=1
  20. You would be surprised how much the wave moves things around. I usually feed with the wavebox off but all the pumps still turned on. After 7 minutes the wavebox will turn back on and the fish are trained to goto the center of the tank because they know it will kick up all the food that has settled to the bottom. I have very little of your typical dead spots where detritus likes to collect. It is definately not a substitute for flow but it does a great job of keeping things in suspension. "its the same water simply wiggling back and forth," Thats not actually true. I'm fighting a microbubble problem in my return which makes it easy to see how the water is moving through the tank. The water actually appears to surge through the tank instead of going back and forth. Its hard to explain without seeing it in person.
  21. Update: My Magnesium is finally up close to what it nees to be. Tonight it tested at 1380. Woohoo!
