  3. Amphiprion ephippium (Bloch 1790), the Red Saddle Anemonefish? http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/speciesSummary.php?ID=11840&genusname=Amphiprion&speciesname=ephippium Nice looking, whatever it is.
  4. My Fish, Living and Deceased Tomato Clown Talbot's Damsel (RIP) Firefish Lawnmower Blennie (RIP) Surprisingly, I couldn't find a picture of my chromis or my bullet goby (RIP)... And I haven't caught the tiny goby in my Pocillopora yet on film.
  5. I'd be willing to open my house for anyone that wants to see my simple 40 gallon (http://www.pnwmas.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1168)... I'm in Vancouver.

The carbon would be to combat allelopathy between the corals. From Borneman's Aquarium Corals, "Sinularia flexibilis is a particularly toxic species to other reef inhabitants, with strong terpenes called flexibilide and dihydro-flexibilide... being acutely detrimental to (at least) some species of Acropora... In fact, many Sinularia species are classified as being in the 'most toxic' category... Anecdotally, it seems that this is even more pronounced in aquariums, where repeated reports of stony coral demise... occur regularly in the presence of multiple, large, nearby, or even isolated Sinularia specimens." Just a thought.

I don't have a lot to contribute- or a lot of experience with SPS... In the tort photo, are those urchin tube feet on the right? I was told it is best to change carbon weekly (don't need to use much, perhaps a cup). I would also confirm your phosphate is unmeasurable.

How often (and how much) do you change carbon? Which softies and LPS do you have?
  9. I posted 1-2 hours... but I find myself wishing I had more time to just sit back an stare.
  10. Here's an interesting read- just four pages + biblio and credits. http://whyfiles.org/245coral_reef/index.php?g=1.txt
  11. I have the same experiance as Waves- one drop (never more than two) changes the color to pink. Do you add a buffer? Are you using Seachem salt (high in borate)? I imagine a buffer could stretch that end-point out. Just a guess though.
  12. Nice... Welcome to the forum. How old is you tank? What else do you have in it?
  13. What about a long spine urchin and a yellow stripe clingfish. http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/speciesSummary.php?ID=12891&genusname=Diademichthys&speciesname=lineatus http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=591 http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=1483 I've also seen cool photos of a tank devoted to a long spine urchin and bangai cardinals....
  14. So what kind of zoa do you get someone whos got them all?
  15. When I read the title of the thread I thought you were going admit to us that you have a problem... This is a good sort of addiction. Congrats! Sincerely, Darren
  16. I replace about a gallon a day on my 40 breeder... No glass though- I'm using egg crate.
  17. I'm happy with the four lamp... Its good for my "garden", I've got mushrooms on the bottom and acros near the top, both are doing fine. Perhaps if I was doing an acropora dominated system I'd get the 6 lamp.
  18. There are two adjustments you can make on the bak pak... You adjust the collection cup up or down in the water column and/or you adjust the amount of air going into the venturi. I clean the collection cup almost daily (when I add top-off water) and the powerhead intake every 3-4 weeks.
  19. My cpr bak pak work fines on my 40 gallon sumpless. Its hard for me to recommend something else because its the only skimmer I've used. The Aqua C definitely has a better reputation.
  20. I always lean towards less technology... Do you have an issue with phosphate?
  21. 2 pounds per gallon seems a little high, unless it's really dense rock. You'll be surprised at how quickly your tank can fill up.
  22. Good info Chief... I also recommend "Conscientious Marine Aquarist" for a good read... IMO- Regarding test kits... For a fish-only system and/or prior to adding hard corals you can get away with just testing ammonia, nitrite, pH and specific gravity. When you are ready for corals you need to start paying attention to the rest of the parameters.
  23. I'm assistant coaching soccer on Saturday...
  24. Wow- they must know you need a place bad...DOH!
