  1. Are these known to eat other things aside from acros?
  2. Okay, so I got through the red bug outbreak. It was fairly easy to conquer. Everything was on the mend for a few weeks, then all of the sudden things start looking worse. I have been monitoring and changing water regularly. All of my perams are perfect. I have been stumped as to what was going on. It started with my pink birdsnest, then I started having issue with my poclopora, then my caps and danae and now my acros. Tonight, I dug into the tank to try to get a better idea and I discovered flatworms. They are on the glass even. I am confused as I thought flatworms only ate acros, but it appears as though I will be losing all of my monties as well. If anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate the input. This really sucks as this was my frag/starter tank for my big tank. I had amassed a decent collection to go in the new tank and now it appears as though all is lost. At this point, I am just tempted to throw out the lot. I just don't know what to do. Looks like I may be starting over and treating everything in quarantine before it goes in the big tank. I guess it could be worse and I could be going through this on a much larger scale. Shawn
  3. Thanks! How do you do that? Every time I try to upload photos I am either told the file is to big, or the picture is really small. Shawn
  4. First round Okay, so I spent the day doing my first round aquascasping. I am looking for opinions. I am fairly satisfied with it. It is currnetly lit with two Phoenix 14k bulbs. The tank dims are 72x30x26. New pics below.
  5. Currently the tank only has water in it. I do not intend to add sand until after the rock has been in for a few weeks. I will be supporting the rock with pvc, even though I only intend to have a shallow sand bed. The plan is to cover the floor in front of the tank with visqueen and do the initial assembly outside of the tank. We will see how this goes. For me, this is the worst part of the hobby, I hate aquascaping, it drives me notes as it never looks the way I want.
  6. I am in the proccess of filling up my 240 with ro/di water as we speak. What an agonizing proccess. I am using two 100gpd units and I am only half full after starting last night. Anyway that is not what this is about. I intend to start my aquascaping next weekend and I am looking for some advice. I have aprox. 200 lbs. of rock going in, my goal is to create a stable structure that will not collapse. In my 100 fowlr everytime I bumped something I would have to rebuild, what a nightmare and it had no coral. My 30g was the same except worse because everytime the structure would shift, I would try to adjust it them it would collapse and unintentional fragging would happen. Of course this would always happen right before I would have to leave. So my goal is to not have this problem in the new tank. What I am thinking, is that I am going to use acrylic rod and 5 minute epoxy. I will drill the rock, fill the hole with epoxy and insert the rod. In theory this sounds like a good idea to me. What I am looking for is what others are doing to prevent the rocks from sliding/shifting. Thanks in advance, Shawn
  7. This is exactly what I am looking for Travis. Thanks for the info. I will bring it by. Shawn
  8. Does anyone have a recomendation as to where to have this done? I have a 1/3 hp chiller that needs servicing. Thanks, Shawn
  9. I figured it might be a bit far from you, just thought I would offer. I cannot for the life of me remember what this stuff is called. I got it through one of my vendors at work. HD and Lowes have a styrofoam that will work fine. Shawn
  10. Rich, I was just up in my shop and noticed that I still have some foam left from my tank. It is perfect for what you are doing. It is free if you want to come and get it. Follow the link for my location. If interested let me know. 11. How thick are you looking for?
  12. So I was out and about yesterday and picked up a lawn mower blenny and 3 chromis. I forgot how much more interesting the tank is with fish. Thanks for the input guys. Shawn
  13. Well you beat me to the punch Rich.
  14. Framed tanks should not have foam under them but frameless are a lot like acrylic and it is a good idea to use faom under them. As for what type, I would not recomend the rigid pink. I am using an open cell blue foam, I cannot for the life of me remember what it is called. Rich, I would recomend something that is plyable, just not to soft. I think the pink is to hard, but straight styrofoam would work great. Why don't you use what your tank was shipped on? Shawn
  15. Thanks, That was the info I was looking for. I was not sure about the blenny, but if it can be fed that is perfect. Maybe I will do a couple chromis and a blenny. R-3.... As for the Vortech, they are way cool, although there are still afew bugs to be worked out. Ecotech has been great through the whole proccess. I bought 3 of them for the 240. They were one of three gambles I made on equipment. I also bought an Aquatronica controller that I have been very happy with. I also bought a PCI 3000 skimmer which I have yet to try out. So far so good but the real test will be when the big tank is up and running. Shawn
  16. I am looking for some general thoughts and advice. I picked up four acro colonies yesterday at the meeting. Two of them were from the brownout special, anyway, to my surprise I ended up with four acro crabs. Does anyone know if these need to be fed? I currently have a 20g frag tank set up. I have been thinking of adding a lawnmower blenny to the tank to introduce some nutrients to the tank. Any thoughts, good, bad? Any other suggestions for a small fish? I was thinking of the blenny because they appear to have a lot of personality and I have seen them in other frag tanks. This tank will only be running for a couple of months with any luck as my 240 is not far from a water test. Any input would be appreciated. I have attached some pics for refference. 18. My experience with the diamond gobies is that they are a bit shy and need a few days to get comfortable, but once they are, they do a great job. Shawn
  19. I think it was your lighting that made it yellow. I have had it under 14k's since I got it and it has always looked green. Those pictures were taken right after I got it from you. I sent you a PM with a link to the others I got from you, if you get a chance, could you please help me identify them? Thanks, shawn
  20. No problem, easier to frag. Currently the biggest frag I can get off of it is 1". The yellow acro I can do a 2" with multiple branches.
  21. Sounds good. After thinking about it, I am not sure the monti is a danae. I have searched but not found anything quite like it. It has started to plate a little but it also encrust and kind of grows upward as well. I have a couple of pics, one from the side and one from the top. The one from the top makes it look like it is a plate but it is not. Follow the link for a pic. Shawn http://s20.photobucket.com/albums/b223/sknoch78/Frags/
  22. I am interested in the loisettae, purple acro and the tri color. I have a few different things to trade. Purple cap with purple polyps Yellow tenius (I think) when I first bought it it had blue tips Green montipora danae with bright green polyps Pink milli with blue tips Yellow acro with green polyps Let me know if interested in any of the above, if not what let me know what your cash price would be. If anyone else is interested please let me know. I also have an orange digi and purple digi with tan polyps. Shawn
  23. I did one treatment about a week ago. I followed it up with a 50% water change and have been running carbon since. I would say that it worked perfectly, not a bug left that I can find. I ended up treating the whole tank as it is only a 15g. After this experience, I will treat all new acros before they go in the big tank.
  24. Has anyone here had experience in treating them? I have about 20 frags and a couple of colonies in a 15g frag tank. Everything had been duing fine until a few days ago when I noticed some slight bleaching on a monti cap. Yesterday I noticed that one cap had bleached even further and another was showing signs. I assumed it had to do with my low alkalinity so I did a 3g water change to help boost the alkalinity. I came home tonight and was looking in the tank and noticed some lightness in the branches of a yellow acro colony I have, so I broke out the magnifying glass to get a better look at what was going on. Much to my surprise I found several small red dots and upon further inspection, they were scurrying around. So I already have some Interceptor. Can anyone enlighten me on the procedure for dosing as well as how much for such a small tank. Thanks, Shawn
