  1. A Korallin 1502 will fit in that space. I just measured mine and it is almost 9.5" at the widest point.
  2. I sent him a pm. That is what got this whole thing started.
  3. Yeah, I looked at those too. I am thinking a Tarpon or a Wahoo. I only need around 1200-1500gph through the sump. I have plenty of in tank circulation. Thanks for the recomendation. I have not seen a lot of people with these pumps and am looking for some feedback. FYI the frags I picked up from you are doing great.
  4. As the title states, I am looking for a new return pump. My current setup is a 240g tank. I am using a Dart as my return. The Dart is fed from a 2" bulkhead in my sump, the outlet is 1.5" and feeds a 1.5" manifold that in turn runs my entire system. The flow goes through the manifold, UV and then the chiller before returning to the tank. The manifold has several outlets feeding things like calcium reactor, fuge, misc. reactors, phos, carbon, ozone. The reason I am looking for a new pump is that I recently purchased a new skimmer and intended to gravity feed it and to my surprise, I am only getting about 650gph combined out of my overflows. I know the Dart is a low pressure pump, but I did not think I had cut the flow that much. I ended up using an Ehiem 1262 to feed the skimmer which in turn raised the tank temp a couple of degrees, which in turn keeps the chiller on longer. I would like to find an energy efficient and quiet pump that when all is said and done will push 1200-1500 gph. This would allow me to gravity feed my skimmer. Sam has/had a Sequence Tarpon for sale. These clame to have 1440gph @ 4' of head using approx. 200 watts. I would be interested in any thoughts and or advice. Thanks, Shawn
  5. Yeah they do work, but just not quite as well as some of the tried and true models out there. I think there are a number of good skimmers on the market, but only a hand full of tried and true great skimmers. My decision to go the route I did was based on the fact that I wanted something that I knew would work.
  6. I think you would be fine to start. I can turn one of mine off and still get good flow to the other end of my 6' tank. With one running, I get this long undertow effect that is pretty cool. With both running, they hit in the center and create a chaotic undertow back to each end.
  7. Here are some pics from when I first got mine.
  8. Currently mine are running 24/7 at full speed. I could controll them with my Aquatronica unit, but have read about a couple people having had trouble running them on a Aquacontroller units. Thought it was better not to risk it. Now I know they have been tested extensively on wave maker power strips with no problems. As I said before, I am eagerly awaiting there controller.
  9. Without question. If you want to check them out before you buy, let me know and you are more than welcome to come take a look. If I am not mistaken, you have been to my place before. I think you bought a 100g stock tank from me.
  10. Here is a good video for demonstration purposes. Also if you have not seen it yet, go to reefcast.com and download episode 15. It is a video of the beta controller in use at MACNA. Awesome video. http://www.melevsreef.com/video/vortech_flow.wmv
  11. I have a 240g that is 72x30x26. I had originaly intended to use a hammerhead running an 8-way. Right after my tank was made I came across the Vortechs. I got excited over the high flow with low power consumption. I did the math and I sold my closed loop system and was able to purchase 3 of the Vortechs. Closed loops, with OM's done properly with good true union ball valves and locline or omninozzels will set you back a little over 1k. I am quite pleased with them. I had the first run, so I went through some of the trouble shooting with the early models, but I have to say they have been running great for some time now. I am currently only using two of them. One on each end of my tank. They have awesome flow and with the two at opposing ends I get some good random flow. My anemone sways back and forth as do the polyps on my sps. I am not sure if I will end up adding the 3rd one or not. I am eagerly awaiting the controller. 6200 gph of flow consuming only 60 watts. I highly recomend them. Shawn
  12. My vote is for a Deltec. I was running a RPS-300 recurculating skimmer on my 240 and was less than impressed with the performance. I recently bought an AP702 and all I can say is wow! What a difference. I messed and messed with the octopus skimmer and could never get good consistent skimate out of it. I hooked up the AP702 and pulled out more skimate in two days than I did in two months with the other and I did not even mess with it. The other thing I noticed was it had a horrible stench unlike anything I have ever experienced. I figure a couple more cup cleanings in the kitchen and my wife will approve the self cleaing head:D Just my 2 cents.
  13. Thanks for the info guys. I am using the arm media, so I will start wih what is recomended.
  14. I am in the process of setting up my calcium reactor and ph controller. I have a probe in the reactor itself and wanted to know what should my on/off points be. Any help would be appreciated. Shawn
  15. I am looking for either 1260 or 1262. Does anyone local carry them? Thanks, Shawn
  16. I have what you need Ryan. Send me a PM and we can work it out. Maybe you could come up this way and we can get our swap done. I will give you the acrylic, you deliver my frags. How does that sound?
  17. I had been using Oceanic up until a few months ago. Now using Ocean Pure and have no issues with it.
  18. I just ended up buying a new lid with the probe holder from MD today. I found the parts at Lowes but after looking at the cost for a tap that size, it was cheaper to buy the lid. I thought about just drilling a hole and gluing it, but decided the new lid was a cleaner option.
  19. Thanks for the link. That was probably one of the more informative articles I have read.
  20. Thanks for the offer. Ubnfortunetly, I woke this morning to a dead fish. I am quite irritated as we went to great lengths to properly care for it. I am fairly sure it was the copper that did him in. This is even more frustrating as I followed the instructions. powdertang, how long have you had your powder blue?
  21. I have a PBT in quarantine currently. He had mild ich when I recieved him, so I dipped in a Formalin bath and the next day he looked great. Followed up two days later with another bath but now he does not look so hot. Couple days go buy and he looks worse. Today I bought some Coppersafe and dosed the tank he is in. It is a 55g. The directions say 1 tsp for 4 gallons so going slightly on the safe side, I added 12 tsp. Waited a couple of hours and used a Salifert copper test kit and it says the level is over 2. My understanding is that a safe dose is supposed to be around .25. What gives? Has anyone on here used Coppersafe? What was your experience? Couple of things. The Formalin was done outside the tank. There is nothing in the tank with the exception of a piece of pvc. I had been running a skimmer but took it off line today when I dosed the copper. I am currently running an airstone in the tank. The fish has been eating a sheet of nori soaked in garlic each day. Any help would be appreciated. Shawn
