siskiou
I wouldn't mind buying a couple, or making them myself if someone knows of some coated magnets that will be strong enough to hold a rack in a 120G glass tank.
Michael7979
Get ahold of Impur, (miles), as he bought some magnets that will work I believe.
impur
Yah you saw might right Susanne? I bought 65lbs pull force magnets here: http://www.kjmagnetics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=DX03 Then just coat them in casting resin from the craft store. Glue the eggcrate to it and there you go! Call me if you have questions.

impur
Wowza 20bucks. You could make 15+ of them for that. They look cool though.
R-3
It says on the site that it is $3 per magnet? Or are those the wrong kind?
impur
Hmmm http://www.kjmagnetics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=DE2 51.93lbs pull force $1.80each http://www.kjmagnetics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=DEH1 49.22lbs pull force $1.45each Those would also work. siskiou
Miles, would this type be strong enough and is the coating safe, in your opinion? http://www.magnet4less.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_123&products_id=
impur
The pull force is getting a little weak, and your glass is thicker than my tank. Also i would not put those in the tank without encasing them in something. It seems there is nickel and copper mixed in with the epoxy coating. Not good for a reef. markdadof2
Here is what I made the other night. I encased some magnets in Epoxy but i'm not sure that the epoxy is reef safe....if not I will just use suction cups. I can make up a few more of these for next to nothing.....
CA2OR
I still think that this is a cool idea
siskiou
Looks very nice! How are the magnets working out?
CA2OR
What did you need the magnets for again? Aren't magnets bad for fish tanks? That may be a stupid question
markdadof2
The magnets are for holding the rack in the tank - two on the inside and two on the outside. Siskiou - The magnets are still drying - they were out in the garage where it was cold so I brought them in today - they are just a bit tacky still. I'm not sure I want to put the epoxy in the tank, not sure if it is good for the water or not. I may just drill the rack and install a few suction cups (I did that on my current rack and it works great).
