fishyman1957
The manufacturer reccomends mixing the water 24 hours ahead of use. I have used a lot here and figure the buffers are important. With a powerhead it is clear in hours. I do use close to 80f water for mixing. Oceanic is a similar formula that mixes almost instantly. UPSCALES
Not a fan of this salt. Worst mixing salt i have ever tried. I would say OK for fish only, but not for reef.
Michael7979
Try mixing it for a day or two. The leftovers will go away.
Reefin'
ive mixed it for a week straight....ive never had residue left in the bottom of my water like this....i had some residue with oceanic, but im talkin about 1/10 of what pacific coast has in it .all mixin it is gonna do is keep this crap suspended in the water.... Michael7979
Never had that problem but I have only used it a little while. Don't know what to say about that.
UPSCALES
They do have two different salts. Maybe one mixes better than the other.
Michael7979
I thought I heard somewhere (other board maybe) that their salt was compared to OceanPure and was found similar? Might be way off here to thats what I recall........

Twitterbait
did you do the salt mixing dance? you have to do the salt mixing dance for it to work correctly... it should be on the back of the bag.

180Brandy
I'v been using ths salt exclusively for the last ~6 months with no problems. I have seen a little residue after mixing overnite. It hasn't been very much, so I have just dumped it in with the rest.
fishyman1957
If you ever get to Albany, I'll exchange it for another brand of similar price. No matter where you got it. I'd also appreciate some of that residue that won't dissolve. It is posible the batches are too large for complete mixing. I did use it for my 280 gallon lowboy. The extra particulate was gone overnite. We started right of with over 100 coral and have encountered no problems. We have also used and sold Oceanic with no problems. The residue often thrown out was what made it a better grade salt for reefs. Albany water is now vittually RO, with the new filtering plant. So pH drop is much quicker than prior. andy
RHO is currently publishing the results of a controlled scientific study of sea salt mixes, headed up by Eric Borneman. The meat will be in Part 2, which isn't out quite yet. I'm looking forward to the second half...
Chief
All I can say is that I have been using Ocean Pure for about 6 months now. I had a very bad hair algea problem when I started using it. I used Kent previously. I can honestly say that I do not have any hair algea in my tank any more. Other than the salt change, I have started using a calcium reactor and have installed a chiller. I'm not sure which item made the major difference, but I am very sure that I am not going to change a thing. I can't stand hair algea. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. CA2OR
It was experiences like this that made me switch to Tropic Marin. Mixes up clear in seconds, well, maybe not that fast, but within 5 min.
markdadof2
I used to like tropic marin - but it mixes up with very low Mg and Ca levels. It did mix up quickly and with no stuff left over in the bottom of the water.
CA2OR
Not argueing, but my Ca levels stay at 440, is that low?
ThePremiumAquarium
Erik, 440 is a pretty decent level. When I mix up my kent salt, it is usually right about 510-520. Most day that a calcium level around 450-500 is a pretty good number. I have used several brands with good luck and only one brand that I feel must have been a bad batch as levels were way off on almost everything. Pacific coast has always been a pretty mid line salt in my experience. I wouldn't hesitate using it on occasion.
